The Seychelles Column - By Christopher Gill

Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures…

…Ancient Communist saying!

No sooner that the Seychelles Freedom Party (SFP) was registered, and I gave a press conference calling for an all out BOYCOTT of the national Assembly elections, joining officially along with NDP and SNP. Immediately, the Election Commission registered another political party called Seychelles Popular Democratic Party, headed by Mr. David Pierre, ex SNP who turned in his membership to his party on national television. Mr. Pierre, was the Deputy Secretary General of the SNP.

David Pierre - SNP 2010 Conference addressing delegates on the issues of election, money and vote buying.  How ironic!

David Pierre

Correspondingly, the SPDP leader has announced, through SBC help, that he and his party will be participating in the upcoming elections for the National Assembly. They will field candidates, they will seek legislative office, and they will have a vote for the leader of the opposition.

This position is completely contradictory of the common unifying platform of the Seychelles opposition. Mr. Pierre has not met with anyone in the opposition prior to deciding if he will field candidates. I am personally uncertain if he even read the Commonwealth Report on the recommendations that have been made to level the playing field for Eighteen (18) years.

Allegations of Backing By Ruling Party

Immediately, as the party was registered, numerous allegations surfaced on the internet that the ruling party was financing Mr. David Pierre’s party.

These allegations have not been denied by Mr. Pierre, until now. However, there are reports that he has been seen making numerous trips and visits to Danny Faure’s office. Mr. Faure is the Vice President of Seychelles and high ranking PL official. What would a future opposition party leader be doing roaming even close to Danny Faure’s office, all by himself? Could this be true?
Danny Faure - Confused as usual

Desperate Times Indeed

The call for BOYCOTT of National Assembly elections is a unifying platform of all elements of the Seychelles opposition community. In spite of all our shortcomings, and all issues internally that we grapple with, we have been able to come up with a common stance and common purpose, that unifies all Seychelles opposition.

That is, a BOYCOTT of these elections is critical at this time, because the promises of democracy and freedom made by F.A. Rene in November 1991, after Eighteen (18) years, have not been kept by PL and James Michel. It is arguable that we have backed tracked to one party state in the last Six (6)  months faster then in the last Sixteen (16) years.

A Boycott exposes the promise broken by the SPPF and PL to implement democracy with corresponding freedoms made in 1991.

A Boycott exposes what the Commonwealth Expert Team (CET) in their Commonwealth Reports note, that is, we have numerous one party state laws in place that prohibit a full transition to democracy.

Basically, though we live in 2011 in life terms, but in terms of progress in democracy and freedom, we are still back in November 1991.

The Democracy Tree Without Roots

This means the democratic tree if you will, that Mr. F. A. Rene told us he was planting in November of 1991, has not taken root after Eighteen (18) years.
Albert Rene

Occasionally when it is exposed that the tree is really a dead tree, the next course of action, is to prop a few plastic oranges on the tree, to make the world believe, we have tree that is alive and well rooted. With the plastic oranges on the tree the communists can say that the tree is fine, it even bears fruit occasionally. You can even water the tree with sea water, it will thrive in appearance.

People of Seychelles, we are entering an era of plastic fruits in the opposition. As the opposition is shammed, like elections, and everything else around us, the world will see it for themselves, and we will not have to work to expose the sham, the entire tree without roots, will become a plastic tree that looks so beautiful, and lively, but it has not grown an inch in real terms since November 1991 nor has it borne any real fruit except for plastic fruits placed on the tree deliberately.

Do Not Lose Hope In Humanity

These tactics are expected of communists. They use them all over the world. In some communist countries, they fake debates, others will fake projects to give the people hope, many fake economic results to fake their success, when in fact it is all grand failure.

Faking an opposition is part of the communists effort to fake our realities. It is used to give cover and mask to their illegitimate democracies the world over.

The common thread in all communist societies is that faking it is never enough and they are sooner rather then later, exposed to the entire world, not just the central committee!

As they fake all the way, we must be united, act as one, for a common good cause that is greater then all of our sums divided.

Gill and SFP are supporting the BOYCOTT it called for. We do not repeat, do not, support RAMKALWAN, who we will all recall told us we are in a DEMOCRACY for 18 years, while he became a Priest Millionaire off our suffering.

Now he has figured out it is not enough, and he wants more.

RAMKALAWAN cannot even support himself.

So why would Gill and SFP which was created because of Ramkalawan's incompetence......,now support him.

Whatever votes Ramkalawan had on election day, most have already left him except for FANATICS in his rank and file.

Hence the call for new leadership in SNP made not by me, but by SNP members.

As far as I am concerned, SNP can keep Ramkalawan as long as it likes. He is a spent force, and not a very smart one at that.

He likes money though, lots of it and it has come from the people of Seychelles and the people who want Freedom so far. It will not be the case in the future.

One Party State you want, One Party State you will get!

Boycott National Assembly elections.

RAM should do one thing shut up his mouth, his time is over and he did not have any influence on Pp in eighteen years as leader of the main oposition.I been also asking myself this question -I wonder if Pierre's conspiracy to quit SNP before the Presidential election and now to formed a fake party was not something discussed and agreed by Both RAM and Pierre in order to keep the status quo but under another name .Only time will tell.

Gill, deal in facts. You can't even show that you have more supporters than Boulle or DP. What are you doing to make sure the boycott is successful ? How are you appealing to Boulle, DP, SNP and PL supporters ?

The boycott by SFP will be 100%. Gill will take all of them to a picnic at Anse Lazio in his car.

Reply to Pathetic SNP-

Nice to have you back. I missed your lame comments for some time, as the BOYCOTT was being organized you went silent.

I trust you used the 6 rims of paper we gave you at SNP to help you along. If not, please give them back, we can use them here at SFP.

Knowing what you SNP Pathetic are capable of, we have not relied on your lot to carry the day.

Each week when you said, you printed 10,000 leaflets, we made sure another 10,000 of our own Seychelles Freedom Party (SFP) leaflets were printed to carry the BOYCOTT message: 1. Do not vote;2 if you must vote, spoil your vote. Why? We are not FREE. We have no Democracy in Seychelles.

That means you thought officially, that 10,000 leaflets were ideal for distribution. We doubled it, for good measure, to insure the BOYCOTT does not fail because of your pathetic perceptions. Now, you ask why you lose elections so badly?

Now Pathetic SNP, you say SFP has not been tested. What does that mean? When you invert that thought, is SNP tested? You called James Michel to a debate, now I call you, all of you, every single one of you, at the same time. Set date time place, I will be there. Send your best 12 men, like a football team.

In the last elections, when MSR called for a BOYCOTT, what did SNP do?

It ran in an election and lost even after scalping Volcere and Boulle in a dirty deal.

I take my hat off to these men who still even talk to your leadership.

Why don't you run in an election now, SNP?

Because you say we are not in a DEMOCRACY, like I have been saying for years.

That is why.

If you are not in a DEMOCRACY, what value is your vote cast in your favour?

You SNP have been fooling the people of Seychelles all along into believing we are in a DEMOCRACY. We never were. But you played along, like your pathetic self because you were being paid well to stay silent.

Consequently, today, we have what we have, a one party state. Thanks in part to you Pathetic SNP.

PL Communists have sat on our rights, but you SNP the whole lot, sat on your obligation to us and did not focus on what needed your attention: the one party state laws had to be changed.

Now you want another 18 years like PL to screw Seychelles, one more time.

Sounds, like David Pierre inverted, in some sick pathetic way.

Get lost!

Nobdy really know what goes on in RAMs head he iss known to change position at whims.,But we can at least assume that he might have been pressured By PP ,- unless he impedes the boycott else Pp will ammend the law in regards to perks, bonus thus jeopardize his big fat compensation. You know with RAM personal interests have been always passed before the country.Remeber when Michel declared our country and economy bankrupted, what did RAM do nto criticized Pp nor did he take the opportunity to topple PP, buthe crawled to State to negiciate an increase in bonuses etc.
And lastly was RAM going to court to get Charpin out of SNP ,then for him to do the same thing as Charpin?

Chris - what bee has stung you? Why are you suddenly on Ramka's case again?
Are you fuming because you were left out of all consultations regarding the boycott & tomorrow's meeting?
You confuse me mate. One minute you're civil & focusing on the big picture, then the next you're rattling your cage. That's very unstatesman-like isn't it?
You seem to want to be at war with Everyone! Do you think this is going to bring you any sympathy?
You're certainly loosing mine, my man.
If you are convinced that Ramka's days are over, then let him be. You do not have to keep harping on what he was or was not as Leader of Opposition.
I also feel that the opposition parties - ALL of them, should have found a way to unite. But there are too many small people with huge egoes around. And for as long as they have a voice, Michel & lepep will carry on their merry way.

Anonymous said...

Let us take the example from the opposition of Syria where all the oppositions have join rank to fight against the Assad brutal regime. What a nice feeling to see artists from all over the world to celebrate the freedom found by the Tunisian people through a live concert on TV5monde. All the local Tunsian artists were present. One day we also will have a concert to re-unite the Seychelloises people who have been divided by a brutal communist dictator who has been trying to portrait himself as a democrat. This is what James Michel and his lepep are communist dictators who are trying through all the dehumanizing means to subdue the Seychelloise people. God is great we will get our freedom soon and the Lepep regime will go down like Moubarrak, Khadafif and Ben Ali. There is a time for all evil regime. Thanks to all the Seychelloises who fighting genuinely for our freedom through civility and tolerance.

Gill does not even know if these posts come from within official SNP. He knows how to burn his bridges. And he wonders why no one is crossing the river to talk to him.

No need to take example from anyone ,right of Assembly is stipulated in our constitution it is up to us to exercise it.What the Tunisian and Egyptian have taught us though is that no dictator is safe.I am sure Michel though an atheist is praying God all night begging him to avoid what Tunisia and Egypt went though, for it will mean his graveyard.Look at Ghadafi Jenpa's brother he the once King of Kings of Africa,he is now hiding in a"LATRIN" .

Parti Lepep is putting out election announcements on SBC addressed to SNP supporters. I have not heard one announcement addressed to SFP supporters.

Both PL and MDP PPBs are targetting and criticising SNP policies, in addition to the boycott.

SNP should demand at least 10 minutes on SBC to defend its position. If Gappy and Onezime refuse, then the election observers will have something interesting in their report.

PL and MDP have made SNP a party in this process of mock elections by dragging SNP and its supporters into their campaign. Except that SNP is asking its supporters and supporters of democracy in Seychelles to abstain from voting or to spoil their vote. SNP is entitled to an election broadcast.

Political oppositions needs to behave responsibly. You do not become a leader by slandering another person who is your rival.History has shown us that in Seychelles. The destruction of one character will eventually leads to your own demise.Stop giving lepep ground to bash the opposition. Being an opposition leader is to try to convince the populace that they are following the wrong leader who does not have their interest at heart. Sorry for these so call leader who think that creating their agenda by slandering other opposition leader. It seems that there is a person obsession to discredit Mr Ramkalawan. I personally think that there are a lot of positive thing that this opposition has done of the oppressed in the Seychelles and his knowledge and shortcomings should be valuable lessons that a the real opposition should focused on. After all the beast is lepep, his propaganda machine and their direct control on the lives of most of the populations.

If you are a real leader may the peace of the lord be upon you. Let not brothers fight brothers because of greed and personal ambition.

Sorry Ramkalawan has discredited himself 100% by pulling these school boy stunts of deliberately excluding Seychelles Freedom Party (SFP) from press communiques and from public meeting.

He does not need our help to discredit him. In life, every one is responsible for their own actions and circumstance.

SFP has just responded to that and provided its members and supporters with guidance with a timely press release.

In no way shall be allow Ramkalawan to derail the BOYCOTT which we have called for.

SFP does not rely on Ramkalawan for guidance. If we did we would be finished by now.

We also call on Ramkalawan to answer the call for debate.

You probably can find only 1 who can talk. The debate is between the opposition and Parti Lepep, not among opposition to find out who will come out on top. We know SNP will come out on top.

The only thing I can see is that Ramkalawan and the other 2 presidential candidates do not want to share platform with you at the public meeting.

Apart from that, there is nothing that SNP is doing which is against what SFP has called for on the boycott.

So, Gill's problem is the feeling of being excluded and not being taken seriously. He thinks by issuing a petulant press release and coming on his blogs to bash Ramkalawan will make him a serious opposition leader in the eyes of the opposition.

When his supporters ask why he is not campaigning for the boycott, he says he is being dignified and peaceful. You can shove your dignified and peaceful where the sun don't shine.

Like David Pierre, Gill resorts to Parti Lepep language to attack SNP.

You don't get it. People do not trust you. And you are the leader of a party without any proven popular support. Your party has not even held a meeting. The least you can do to rebuild trust is to provide moral support to the SNP for the boycott.

The only way you can force others to take you seriously is by demonstrating your popular support. This you fail to do. Call a public meeting. If you attract 1000 people, Ramkalawan will be quaking in his boots and will talk to you.

Volcere and Boulle have some 1700 supporters between them. Pierre would love to get their endorsement as this will put him well on his way to becoming leader of the opposition. Boulle polled more votes than before, so he has to be taken seriously.

In fact, some commentators were saying quite a few thousand votes will move from Ramkalawan to Volcere, because LNSW has thousands of readers. In the end, Volcere's support was a lot less than expected. Why should anyone think Gill has any support at all, in the absence of any evidence ?

Stop acting like a demented politician. Call your supporters out and let others ignore you at their own peril. Your press releases damage you more than anyone else. Somehow I think you wish you had taken part in these elections. Like Pierre, 10% is good enough for you.

The more I read Christopher's blogs the more I see that the guy has lost the plot - big time.
What debate among opposition leaders is he calling for? What for? Why would Michel, who firmly rejected the call for a debate during the last presidential election concede now???
Come on man be serious if you want to be taken seriously.
The immediate issue now is national election boycott. All opposition parties are agreed on this. The focus should be this.
That you're involved or not in the decisions and actions of the opposition is a metter that you need to think seriously about to find out why you're being excluded.
Do you seriously believe that Ramkalawan, on his own, is able to pressure both Boulle & Volcere to exclude you??? Seriously???
The problem lies elsewhere. You're intelligent enough. Think about it.

Beau-Belle: At least SBC journalists were for once being the investigative journalists that they should be. HOWEVER, instead of just coming out with proof that police was nowhere to be seen, it is part of responsible journalism to go and ask them why they were not there as they had said they would. Maybe there's a reason. Just showing a one-sided report is not good enough for me.
Will SBC be covering our meeting this afternoon? Will they interview us to find out why we insist on boycotting the election?

Anonymous said...

As leader, Ramkalawan has to take the criticisms for decisions that are taken collectively.

WikiLeaks cables provide an interesting insight into Michel's high level meetings. They came after the US ambassador tackled him on his treatment of the opposition and Michel promised to do something. These meetings were designed to placate the US and Michel was obviously not sincere. That also explains why Ramkalawan had to be seen to be going to these meetings, until he had a reason to pull out. The meetings continued with an empty chair before being quietly abandoned. The empty chair looks like a gesture to impress the US.

SNP sent out a letter telling people not to vote for Boulle or Volcere, yet they both had a better PPB then Ramkalawan.

No one in their right mind will give Ramkalawan a vote again.

They did it because they were desperate for change, and now they know Ramkalawan will never deliver that. Politics is not a static event , it is ever changing. You keep on looking at those old numbers, you will end up like Mancham talking about the April 12, 1992, for 20 years.

What is worse, SPPF middle of the road will never vote for Ramkalawan or SNP.

A blogger said earlier a traitor will always be a traitor, and he is right.RAM the guy that cannot change. He worked as stool-pigeon for Berlouis at SEYCO,then eighteen years as loyal oppostion to PP,called on voters not to vote for Boulle and Volcere which literally meant vote for pp.This guy is out of his mind ,the best help he can render the people of this country and all his ex-supporters will be to hang himself.

The turn off was indeed medioc which in a way confirms to some extent, though still to early to the real effect of the boycott in already havingt. Seychellois seem ready to go for it,stay at home, destroy their ballots, and say no to autocracy in this fake election. We must Keep the momentum.

I agree with Gill. He represents a party, and he is part of the boycott. If they have been leaving the Freedom Party out of press releases, that is not right. If they have been leaving his name out intentionally that shows bad faith. He has held the Boycott line this is right.

You completely right, but you know what a fore-sighted politicain always win.He is already winning he called for united oppostion, for a boycott of this coming faked election, and as we have also experience before SFP became a party there was a mine filed that was laid by Pp to impede him to move forward but with convinction, perseverance he did it.Now the party is there ,the newspaper is there and no doubt he looking at a leader with integrity,a real patriot .And that just the beggining.

Bad weekend for Christopher Gill. He has been exposed as petulant and someone that the opposition cannot work with. Liable to putting on dramas if he cannot get his way. He was tested and failed miserably. He has not changed since he left DP and crossed over to SPPF. He is likely to repeat his notorious act of betrayal. It takes more than money to be a political leader. If he wants to talk about dignity, then he should behave in a dignify way on his blogs and cut out the diatribe against Ramkalawan. Quite frankly it got boring a long time ago. SFP is nothing more than an expensive and elaborate set-up for Gill to promote his dead political career by persistent carping at Ramkalawan. Over the weekend he came across as an abusive drunk who has been refused more booze. He slipped on the very same banana skins (2) that he has carrying for Ramkalawan. The rest of us are grateful to Ramkalawan who is standing resolute in the search for democracy, in the face of attacks from anti-democratic forces in PL and its helpers in SFP and MDP.

The Blogger at 7.56 am 19th of September 2011 had said it all.Thank you very much for your frank and honest observation. Instead of inviting the opposition for a debate Mr Gill should hold a public meeting to inform the Seychelloise people about his party. Whining complaining and denigrating your opponent is a sign of jealousy and envy. I am afraid that your approach will backfire on you and in the political arena in the Seychelles you will be a mere spectator due to your big ego and self-destruction approach. Intelligent people act intelligently instead of inflicting more damage on the opposition. It would have been wise to seek common ground. Wise men are those who acknowledge their shortcomings and say I am sorry.I was wrong. For example instead of coming up with excuses for crossing the floor. You should have accepted that it was the wrong move and simply say sorry to the people of Belombre.
I would not invite somebody to my party whilst the very same person had been trying to assassinate my character with his dirty and destructive critics. The real opposition I believed had a very good reason for not inviting you to their meeting and as a party leader you should be confident to hold a meeting on your own. After all you are not a toddler.
Real leaders are those who will put their life on the line for the things that they believe in.They will not jump ship during the storm and get back when the weather is good.
Honestly this blog is becoming just another forum to attack the real opposition leader. Our support will always go to Mr Boulle, Mr Volcere and Mr Ramakalawan because inspite of their shortcomings. They are real trying hard to put their words into action. Calling for a boycott and hide behind the scene does not make one an opposition leader material. Thousand of seychelloise had been asking for a boycott but that do not make them a great leader. Change your ways and you would earn respect. We do not want another Albert Rene, James Michel and rule over us.

An astute politician would have flown from Praslin and joined in the crowd. Gill does not realise that he has a trust problem to overcome. He thinks his "millionnaire priest" rantings will get him support. Gill chose to undermine opposition work. He is happy if people are afraid of attending public meetings. Strange reaction from someone who wants to be a political leader. Forget the banana skin, you have shot yourself in both (2) feet.

Sorry Jeanne d'arc if you and Gill are the same person. This is what I would like to say to you both. A good leader earn respect from his followers. Leaders who show lack of respect for his fellow countrymen do not deserve to win. Tell Mr Gill to test his popularity by calling a meeting. This is what we are simply saying like Wavel has been doing. No matter how hard you want to character assassinate Mr Ramkalawan. He is one of the leaders in Seychelles who is well respected by a lot of Seychelloise today and if he calls another meeting tomorrow people will turn up. That you will never be able to take from him. Ask Mr Gill to first to a televise debate with himself first in a mirror and then he can call upon Mr Michel for a national debate because he is the President of Seychelles not Mr Ramkalawan. I will never support SFP because your agenda is only strengthening Lepep. I think Mr Ramkalawan should be commended for not falling his your dirty trap because you are not sincere and honest in what you have been doing. Probably you regret for not talking part in that fake election. We are not blind to see your evil plan.

In fact you cannot support SFP to day as long as Pp keeps feeding you with tax payers money instead of finding a real job thus participate in the country's development ,you no different from Charpin whose purposes is similar.

RAM was respected by many Seychellois ,but why did he chose to disrespect those Seychellois who supported him by playing Pp's loyal opposition?Since yesterday his failure to have a big turn out has proven that his EX-suppoters no longer accept to be fools by Pp co-conspirator.

Maybe you not blind but reading your comment make me has the feeling that you rather short-sighten that you canot see anything more that the ghostly face of RAM.You can take his defend but that would no be enough to wipe the grip on his ghostly face after his self.deafeated Assembly in the private garden of Mr.Sulivan.Yesterday the people has clearly given RAM the RED CARD,he must leave the playing field and accept defeat.

Reply to SNP Pathetic-

You should post your name to your silly comments so we can ID you.

You say forget about the two banana peels Ramkalawan stands on.

I say no.

Why?

Because the move to take press communiques which SFP has written in part, three of them, and not include SFP was a deliberate move.

Because the calling of the public meeting in the guise of a united effort but simply excluded Seychelles Freedom Party was not an error. It was deliberate.

Why would Ramkalawan and SNP do such a thing?

Answer: They know Seychelles Freedom Party is actively registering members and supporters of SNP. They feel threaten by that.

But that is Democracy and Freedom in play. If you do a good job, people support you. If you fail to deliver, they dump you and look for a viable alternative. Everything has a beginning and an end. SNP should not take this bad. We are keeping people from going to PDM or PL.

Ramkalawan is not threatened by Boulle or Volcere. He told me once everytime Mr. Boulle runs, he like it. It gives him more power. Mr. Volcere, he does not mind, because he can do another dirty deal if needed to keep him at 1%.

We see Ramkalawan for what he is.

For many years, Ramkalawan lead the loyal opposition to the SPPF in the National Assembly.

Never did he push the agenda for democratic reform of the one party state laws. He pushed his salary packet of 38% and his pension for life of 70% of his salary , which , he has given no results in democratic progress.

In fact, we are worse off today, then in November 1991.

Finally, we know, you wanted us to react over the exculsion of SFP. We have. But we reacted in a resonsible manner, and provided guidance to our members and supporters. We will not send our members and supporters into a meeting that we have not been part of to arrange, and know the real agenda.

In fact, if your brains were working beyond the banana peels, you would conclude this was the worse time to hold a meeting.

I will not say why, because PL is reading and we don't need to give them any ideas, we should leave them in the dark where they like it.

People of Seychelles, focus on the BOYCOTT! Do not vote! If you must vote, spoil your vote, to get real democracy in Seychelles.

The Boycott is putting great pressure on the PL and it must be maintained.

The Boycott is about our Freedom, not about David Pierre and Ramkalawan.

These elections will be strange for many reasons:

1) All sides want Parti Lepep to win. PL itself, SNP, NDP, SFP and MDP.
2) For the first time since 1977, Parti Lepep does not want a 100% victory, although they dissolved the assembly thinking this was achievable. It wants enough votes to go to MDP.
3) Parti Lepep will pay good money to SNP supporters to vote and will not be taking their identity card away.
4) The parties taking part are fighting a party that is not even on the ballot paper.
5) Parti Lepep is totally deflated on the eve of a spectacular election victory -- indeed a walk-over in all but name.

Parti Lepep will never WILLINGLY make democratic changes. It responds only to international pressure. It is worried that the boycott will bring international pressure on it to make real democratic changes. That's why it will do anything to make sure David Pierre gets into the national assembly and Parti Lepep can point to him as the "opposition" to get the international community off its back. Michel can continue to strut the globe as the "democratically elected leader of a young democracy", a title that we know he craves like mad while trying to hoodwink the international community about his real democratic credentials.

(1) International pressure put an end to the one-party state dictatorship of the second republic. Rene caved in, despite boasting he would never cave in a few weeks earlier. UK and Australia threatened to turn off foreign aid and turn his regime into a pariah state.

(2) We now know from WikiLeaks that the "high level talks" in 2008 or 2009 with the opposition were due to pressure from the US.

(3) The Electoral Commission was due to pressure from the Sarkozy who had a few critical comments about the manner Michel was elected in May 2011. Only a few months earlier, an Electoral Commissioner was good enough for the presidential elections.

By participating in these elections, David Pierre is perpetuating Parti Lepep's defacto one party state. It is dishonest of him to run a campaign saying he does not want a return to one-party state. He is removing a source of pressure -- international pressure -- on Michel that has yielded results in the past.

The boycott is having a psychological effect on Parti Lepep, its leaders and activists. Imagine what would have happened if they could not find anyone to stand against them in these elections. They will be going mad by now. They are now daring Seychellois not to go and vote, with the usual threats of retribution against those who do not vote. The real result that will matter most to Parti Lepep on election night is -- how many people did not vote and how many spoiled their vote. That's the result that will determine Parti Lepep's change in behaviour after 1 October. If the 25,000 who voted for the opposition in May HOLD THEIR NERVE, we will achieve democratic reforms through the ballot box. The national assembly "elected" in October 2011 will not last long. It will lack total credibility and even James Michel will see that. On top of that, Seychellois psyche will never be same again.

They always said that they are ready and yet they are complaining. In their PPBs, Parti Lepep is still unsure how to handle the boycotted elections. MDP has not been mentioned so far. PL has chosen not to attack David Pierre who was in the National Assembly except for the last 6 sittings. It is a recognition perhaps that they do not have an opposition in the elections and want some of their supporters to vote for David Pierre. Their message is -- they have no problem with David Pierre and MDP. We knew that all along.

In fact the PPBs attack SNP, especially in areas such as Anse Etoile, Beau Vallon where the MNA was SNP.

Lack of development in these districts is blamed on SNP. Even the former DA standing at Anse Etoile had the audacity and mendacity to blame the former Anse Etoile MNA for broken drains covers. Parti Lepep supporters, it seems, are not capable of working out that repairing broken drains covers is the job of the DA and the government, not the MNA. Beau Vallon got a similar treatment for being "run down". We got a footage of the famous beach, but not a footage of the other side of the road where PL has given large tracts of land to their foreign friends to build hotels. But there is no pointing out the lack of development in districts with PL MNAs for donkeys years. Instead, we are asked to trust their "vision" for the district.

These PPBs amount to an insult to the intelligence of the voters. No wonder they all end with the ghost-like appearance of James Michel. A man with low intelligence, as we all know.

Pissed off-

I don't know where you get the class struggle bull shit, it is totally communist and historically wrong.

Seychelles struggle from 1964 onwards, under the SPUP banner was a struggle for INDEPENDENCE and home rule free of Colonialism and British rule.

British rule kept people all over the world poor after World War II Pissed off. Remember England was Broke after the war. We were not the only people poor in the World in Seychelles. British rule also created a colonial class structure. Everyone has to live with.

Today SPPF PL has created a communist class structure. Its few families live like kings, and the rest of the country live like slaves to feed them.

The fight for INDEPENDENCE was the fight for SESEL POU SESELWA!

Today, this fight with a sell out like James Michel, has taken on a new meaning and new purpose, and SESEL POU SESELWA is relevant as ever in our context today 2011.

We have INDEPENDENCE, but we are being sold out by James Michel, like James Mancham sold us out in 1976. Mancham was trying to bring much needed investments to Seychelles, and was green behind the ears at the time. Michel, what is his excuse? What are the results? total failure, everywhere.

Seychellois today, must stand up and unite as one people, be it SPPF, SNP DP NDP SFP to fight for their place in their country. Michel wants us all to be 3rd class citizens.

This is the communist style he is delivering:

1. wait for a house for 25 years;

2. wait for treatment in a hospital long enough to die;

3. wait for proper education, and be satisfied with incompetent education system;

4. wait for the bus, until you take it, and it kills you; we should be riding electric trains by now with $900 Million GDP. Where does all that money disappear to?

5.Wait for our national air carrier, to be run by a non seychellois;

6. Wait for Mr. Khalifa to tell us we can use the beach at Barbarons; wait for water by the bottle to run your house;

7. Wait for another DEVALUATION OF the Seychelles Rupee coming soon at a bank near you;

8. wait for a medicine, we have time to die in a clinic near you;

9. Wait for the promises of a better life for our children until they end up at North East Point;

10 when they are living a worse life then our grandparents in many cases, because they will have no valid opportunity in their own country, since Michel has made them 3rd class citizens.

Why?

Our grandparents had HOPE!

Under Michel we have no HOPE!

As for your ID, we don't really care who you are, your ideas expose that you are of no real value at this point.

However, feel free to say what you like. We will tolerate you, happily.

The African Union (AU) has recognised Libya's interim leaders the National Transitional Council (NTC) as the country's de facto government.

The AU, a pan-African body which has frequently been criticised for its lack of speed when reacting to events in neighbouring states, said that it was ready to help the NTC in its efforts to build an inclusive government.

The above is from www.bbc.co.uk. It is also in SBC news WORD FOR WORD.

While SBC is careful to censor local news, it seems rather careless with foreign news and regurgitates news from foreign websites. BBC news is the news from western countries point of view. Hence the phrase "has been frequently criticised" is a reference to western criticisms of the AU, although the BBC conveniently chooses not to give the source as it would give the game away. Obviously some people in the west and at the BBC do not like the AU. But does SBC have to regurgitate their views without realising what they are doing ? SBC is full of ignorants.

Gill how long do you think you will be able to keep this bullshit up? You now want to re-write history to suit your agenda!
The only reason you are not aware of the class system and struggle before the coup d’etat is because you were not here to witness it first hand and they don’t suit your plans. Jean Paul Isaac you wouldn’t have experienced it because you were brought up in a much better system after 1977 but your granmounn would have related these stories to you – they were victims of that class system because of their colour and they had no wealth! Are you ashamed to speak about it or you would rather hide it because of your hatred of Rene!
Gill the vision your uncle had for Seychelles as Chief Minister before independence and briefly as president did not include those people to the likes of your man Friday!
If FAR had turned down the offer made to him by the freedom fighters that night in June 1977 to govern a Seychelles based on equality your man Friday would now be a third generation house boy or anmaser koko kot plantasyon gran blanc and you Christopher Gill would never associate yourself with him and Jeanne Dark because you would find it demeaning associating with a “ti nwar” as they were seen then!

Pissed Off-

What kind of a sick human are you?

In your brain you see a person's skin and you reference it en PTI NWAR?

You are pathetic.

The class system in place in 1964 was not a class system based on racism Pissed off moron.

It was a system that had deep roots in the plantation system and an economy of scarcity of goods, which the French colonizers who came before the British, were directly responsible for. The French came by boats Pissed off, with sails. They did not fly in on 747 Boeing.

These French settlers, who were great people in their own right were industrious and hard working. Some were hard drinking as well. Those days, you took what you could get.

They brought slaves from Africa to cultivate the land. That is not a good thing. But who do you blame?

As a possession, Seychelles had no voting rights. The social strata in a plantation set up is what it is. You have a land owner, then his family, followed by his workers and mistresses.

It was not a class system because we did not have the economies of scale for a class . The plantation system operated and functioned under the stress of scarcity of goods. Seychelles was a bunch of islands in the middle of no where. We had to wait 6 months for a mailed letter. Sometimes a year.

It was the airport that Chief Minister ushered in that changed our socio economic well being. For all his faults we owe him gratitude for seeing this airport through completion. Without that vision, we would be living in a real island thousands of miles from anywhere.

If it was not for the Airport, we would all be picking up coco nuts for a living, even France Albert Rene and even James Michel would be picking coconuts.

Pissed off- Rene and Michel opposed the Airport project. After June 5th, 1977, Rene told us" KAKA TOURIS SESELWA POU ARET TIRE!"

Today, we look for Kaka Touris to remove with a smile, under the U First Campaign and under the Affordable Seychelles promotion.

Michel even tells us to remove kaka Khalifa from our drinking water and taps on our own at our cost.

Was there poverty in 1964? Yes of course. There was poverty all over most of the world in those days in 1964.

Did people call each other names in Seychelles in those days? Yes, like they do today.

No problem. The names are different today, but the attitudes are Seychellois as usual. Maybe it might be more productive to move on and not hang on to those name callings.

As for your reference to Jean Paul Isaac, you do not have to belittle our people to prop up your failed ideas and failed perception of reality.
When you do this, you not only hurt Seychelles, you set her back with your fake perceptions.

Today, we are BANKRUPT and a BROKEN country for it. Rene spent the Money, and Michel doubled it in 2 years, and we went BANKRUPT on October 30,2008.

What happened in 1964 at this point, is as important to us as the hair on a rats ass, because your version of it, is total crap.

3. Where does the entrance fee for L'Union Estate of Euro 10.00 per visitor go;

4. Why is Deroches Islands being sold by plot by Glenny Savy, how do us Pti Nwar benifit from these transactions;

5. Why did FAR spirit let Khalifa build on La Misere such a gross structure;

6. Why does FAR spirit allow Irish mercenary to run Seychelles, like Tanzanian mercenary did; and North Korean;

7. Why does FAR spirit allow Escobars in high government posts;

8. FAR spirit creates apartheid in Seychelles with South African, calling us "Boy" and Blackie. What is the difference with Pti Nwar under French British and Mancham?

This is what I was saying previously? There are a lot of Seychelloise and Albert Rene himself. He Albert Rene think that he is God. Let me remind these atheist that there is only one god. That is the god that has revealed himself through the holy Scriptures. Remember Albert Rene started his career to become a priest and believed at that time he was intelligent enough to realize that there must be a supreme being that sustain the whole world.

Some of the reasons why Albert Rene cannot be god.
1. God do not deceptive his people and Albert Rene deceived us by telling us he would make Seychelles be a Singapore of the Indian ocean.
2. God always love his people and his love is unconditional.Under Albert Rene a lot of his political opponents were murdered in cold blood by his henchman.People who did not support him were victimized to the point that those who could go into self-imposed exile.
3. The spirit of Albert Rene will never come back to haunt anybody in the Seychelles when his appointed time comes to meet the only god because he will have a lot to answer for all that he did in Seychelles for the past 34 years and onwards as he is still muddling himself in Seychelles politics big time even after he had pass baton to his second in command whom I must say is bring Seychelles to the lowest of the lowest pit by making Seychelles people becoming Arab slaves.

The Mont Buxton PPBs were interesting.

We expected a good show by David Pierre, he was once a star of SNP before he lost his head and his way and got greedy. At this election he is fighting for his life. His attempts to criticise Michel and put some space between him and PL were not convincing and also bound to upset his new supporters in PL. One of his supporters said that the opposition is not taking part, and that's why he is supporting MDP. Too right the opposition is not taking part. There is a boycott on.

Pierre said that MNAs should not act on government's orders. Duh !!! What did MDP Jane Carpin do ?

But the independent candidate gave Pierre a run for his money (and we know he has got loads of that right now). She came across as knowledgeable, intelligent and civilised. She will make a good MNA and a good leader of the opposition.

Meanwhile in the PL camp, they are still ignoring MDP. It remains to be seen whether they will remove the gloves after tonight. It is as if PL will be happy if MDP gets a majority of seats. Knowing it can manipulate MDP anyway. He who pays the piper calls the tune. MDP is the piper, in case anyone is wondering.

Deal or no deal, PL must sometimes wonder whether David Pierre will be their Pied Piper of Hamelin and seduce their supporters with his new tune.

It is very clear that this boycott is having great results so far. We are talking about DEMOCRACY. That's not bad at all.

Parti Lepep is talking about DEMOCRACY, albeit paying lip service to it. In PL PPB spot, Michel "renews his commitment to electoral reforms" having previously told us everything was OK. Why reform what is working and OK ? He is scared shit of the boycott and a poodle opposition led by David Pierre. The boycott has put Michel on the back foot and PL has had to rewrite their spots and PPB. Imagine how scared he would be if no one was contesting these elections.

Marie-Antoinette Rose talks about DEMOCRACY, and not her usual specialist subject of the Mont Buxton Kok Maron.

Still no word on MDP from Parti Lepep. Everyone is still running against SNP, clear evidence that they know the real opposition is boycotting these elections.

Even PL has taken to the airwaves to appeal to SNP supporters, with the thinly veiled message that they should go and vote for MDP.

This election will be a turning point for democracy. By boycotting these sham elections or spoiling their ballot paper they will force Michel to bring in democratic reforms. However if MDP wins more than 10% we will be back to where we were before.

While we wait for the verdict of the voters about the direction the country should take, it is good to see Michel talk about an engagement with electoral reforms (hitherto unheard of) and not how he is going to get 5 more districts. Maybe he has finally learnt that manipulating all state institutions to ensure PL dominance in the national assembly and everywhere else is not good for DEMOCRACY. This boycott is working.

Anonymous said...

If PL is ignoring MDP, I am not. The other day, I heard Carpin appealing to SNP supporters because she needs a strong opposition in the assembly. This is the same one who crossed the floor and took orders from the government side. Next time PL wants to weaken the opposition, it only has to delay Carpin's pay. Or maybe since her act of betrayal she has enough money and can wait for her pay.

MDP is all over the place. Some say vote for them because the opposition is not standing. Others pretend they are still SNP and standing for SNP. I have yet to hear MDP appeal for support outside SNP supporters. Pierre is only looking for enough votes to make him Leader of the Opposition.

Despite the opposition being denied a chance to promote the boycott on SBC, both PL and MDP are doing a good job promoting the boycott as they are running against the boycott. PL activists don't bother with MDP. They have begun to see MDP as half-brothers and half-sisters. Their target is still SNP. It is not inconceivable that some PL activists will vote for MDP in these discredited elections.

Anonymous said...

In fact PL activists target the independent candidate more than they target MDP. They talk about the audacity of that nurse to stand against Pierre. The audacity of Jacqueline, never mind hope ! They know that MDP is their flesh and blood, even if the leadership want to pretend otherwise.

Anonymous said...

The boycott will draw a line between politics of principles and politics of opportunism/vested interests.

As to Pierre the guy does not have nay track record to prove that we can rely on him and has become rediculous corrupted by sepcial interest and perks.

Seychellois must send a strong message to both PP and PDM that they will no long vote for thieves that bring about their time filling their pockets serving themselves from payers^coffers, and that never account to the people once they are elected in office.

Reply to SNP Cross Floor Phobia-

I have explained conclusively what I did and why. It was not for money. I was already financing the DP at the time. The idea that I did it for money is silly.I don't need PL SPPF money.Just the money I have contributed to politics in opposition in Seychelles could buy 10 Villas the size of Ramkalawan's house today. I happily do it with pleasure and love for Country.

However, in the SNP, there is a cancer eating the party up, what is left of it. That is the selling out of political personalities for money. It is ongoing and not over.

There are spies in SNP camp right now.

This is called the "Cancer of Sell Outs".

In SFP we do not have this, as we regularly check for Cancer and have built in mechanisms to prevent it.

In SNP the "Cancer Sell Out" is born out of the seeds of sell out sown by the Leader, who has become a Priest Millionaire on his watch, and he has failed to deliver the goods to the People of Seychelles.

Yet, he is pensioned for life with 32,000.00 per month until he dies. That is a sell out! There is more, but no need for details now beyond this.

The lesson from this is: you do not glutton yourself and let your followers starve to death. They will sell out if they do not hang you!

SNP has chosen to sell out and leave you with your defunct party.

Regarding Muslims.

SFP or myself do not discriminate on the basis of religion. It is our position that all Bonafide Seychellois must be free to choose their faith. They can chose as many times as they like. We have numerous members of our party that are Muslims. They too want Freedom.

We believe this attempt to foment religious division in Seychelles, is a desperate act the SNP to keep influence in the opposition camp.

All Opposition supporters are asked to abandon the sinking ship of the SNP openly in public, because if we follow them, we will end up in Point Norde Clinic eating by drip, before we see change in Seychelles.

SNP has failed, and the leadership of SNP collectively has failed Seychelles.

Why do they fail?

They do not think and they lack courage to take down a rouge leader! At least in DP we faced the sell out down!

Rene made this statement after succumbing to pressure from the international community.

It is a promise.

SPPF has not delivered.

PL has ignored and backtracked under Michel on the promise.

In fact, since the SNP was asleep for 10 years, telling us we are in a Democracy and they believe in the ballot box (quote Priest Millionaire), they did nothing.

Now that the BOYCOTT is on, Faure has already said top priority is Electoral Reform and Supplementary Budget, again to cope with the failure.

The Boycott is not property of any political party exclusively as you try to make us believe, it is the RIGHT of every Seychellois Citizen as a protest to the SPPF PL not delivering DEMOCRACY and FREEDOM after Eighteen years of one single promise.

The internal problems of the SNP are playing themselves out on the NATIONAL stage. We all see this.

After the BOYCOTT ELECTIONS is over, we will expose more cancer rot in SNP if you ask me to, to prove, the reason by they attack the Seychelles Freedom Party, every step. We have no Cancer sell outs in Seychelles Freedom Party.

I suggest you leave Seychelles Freedom Party alone. It bites when it must, and has compassion when it is required.

If your supporters are leaving you to join Seychelles Freedom Party, it is their right. Do not blame us.

We gave you more then enough time to unite the opposition. You failed to do that. Now, we do not want to end up at Point Norde Clinic to be fed through drips waiting for SNP to get its act together.

If financiers are leaving SNP to lend a hand at Seychelles Freedom Party (SFP) , it is their right.

What is your problem? Do you want these people to sell out and go to ZEEDA PARTY or go to PL Communists?

You are beginning to sound unstable.

David Pierre deciding to leave SNP?
Jane Carpin deciding to vote with her conscience and getting expelled from her party for it
or:
Christopher Gill betraying his uncle who is also his godfather – the man who stood in church in the presence of god craddling the baby Christopher in his arms and vowed to look after him and guide him and be his father before god – stabbed in the back for the love of money and land! Yet Christopher Gill, unashamedly and without batting an eyelid is calling everyone else Judas. If indeed they are Judas then Christopher Gill is KING JUDAS!
Now he is acting like he is god and asking others to do Hail Marys.

More and more are saying: boycott these elections

The people of Seychelles stand determined for democracy. Seychellois are saying “enough is enough” and more and more people are saying they will boycott these elections.

There were those who were saying they will go to the polling booth and spoil their vote but are now saying they will stay at home. This shows the sort of determination that Seychellois have today, in common with the Libyans, Tunisians, Egyptians and now Mauritians. We have had enough of strong-arm dictators and we want true democracy and freedom.

Great determination

Those sentiments were expressed at the meeting held by the opposition at Bernard Sullivan’s place at Beau Vallon on Sunday 18 September. Their determination was etched on their faces. That’s what we call true militants for a new Seychelles. They are the activists today working to take the boycott message everywhere.

More Parti Lepep joining us

There is something else rather interesting that is taking place. It is that more traditional supporters of Parti Lepep are now saying that these elections are a farce. They will now support the boycott, by either staying at home or spoiling their vote. A well-known red supporter is saying that these elections lack oomph and that Michel was wrong to dissolve the assembly and call elections. He added that it is now clear that David Pierre’s party was a fabrication to allow elections to take place. We continue to encourage Parti Lepep supporters to support the boycott and make their voices heard.

One voice for democracy

Today’s struggle by the opposition is a struggle for the country. That is why we must all get involved. Is it not obvious when you watch the programmes on SBC that these elections are a farce ? Are we really going to let our country and especially our national assembly descend to such depths ? Some candidates do not know how to read and do not know how to speak. What are we to make of all of that ? We must with one voice say that we want the right electoral reforms that would help our country get a level playing field for all political parties. It is necessary that the true voice of the people is heard.

A victory for Seychelles

After the success of the boycott on 1 October, we will proclaim a big victory for democracy. Show your determination and let us say loud and clear that we reject dictatorship. That struggle can take place outside the national assembly. Did the Libyans, Tunisians and Egyptians need their national assembly to change their country ? Seychellois, on 1 October stay at home or spoil your vote. Afterwards we will shout loud and clear -- Victory for Seychelles and for Seychellois.

Mitcy Larue, an elephant, forgets what it was like 18 years ago

It is true that if you ever at all bother to listen to Parti Lepep politicians, you will quickly understand why the country is still backward in many ways, especially in democracy, freedom and civic rights. These politicians spend their time lying to us or spreading fear to force us to fall into their traps.

Mitcy Larue is telling people to look back where they were 18 years ago and they will find the reason to vote for Parti Lepep. That’s where she goes terribly wrong. Anyone who does such a reflection will support the opposition.

18 years ago we had just emerged from the one-party state. There was no freedom, free speech and justice during the one-party state. The police would beat you up to their heart’s content.

It is due to the opposition that we have smashed through these obstacles, and today there is at least some respect for the citizens. That is due to the work of the opposition and people can support us because of our record.

Once more, we see that Parti Lepep is just a farce in this country. Boycott these elections.

I cannot help but laugh at two-faced Christopher Gill!
It’s o.k. for him to betray his uncle and godfather for land and money by crossing the floor but it is the act of Judas if somebody else does it?
We are all grown up here and we each can boast some form of education no matter how minimal. We see what is written and can read and understand at least the basics. So tell me somebody which is the worse form of betrayal;
Totof there are not enough Hail Marys on earth and in heaven for you to repeat in order to absolve your sins of betrayel to your uncle and godfather!
How can anyone with even an ounce of education take Christopher Gill seriously?
He is the joker in the deck of political cards – useless and discarded with no value!

To the management of Seychelles freedom Party. Certain of my coleigues have been reading your site and are very very dismayed by the hatred you mr Gill have been showing towards our muslims community. This is causing plenty of distress amongs our community as far as we are aware we have never been involved with any dispute with your political party. You can take on Parti Lepeple, you can take on snp, you can take on dp and boulle but you cannot take on our community and expect to come out victorious so please for the sake of harmony leave us muslims alone and stop vilifying us. We are sorry for what some muslims are doing across the world but if they did not have oil we would not be hearing about them. Likewise the Christians have been invading and killing muslims in the name of Jesus for centuries. We in Seychelles have done you no wrong so please for the sake of piece and harmony live us alone.

SNP Pathetic-

I can see your stress. I see your problem.

There is no betrayal of James Mancham by me. Mancham had sold out to Rene and later Michel. The sell out was long ago.

That is the point.

DP knows it, but here, we are all adults and who is raising the matter that is mute today?

SNP Pathetic Priest Millionaire, in an act of sheer desperation.

DP runs my Column. If they felt I betrayed them they would not be doing that for so many years now.
They know the TRUTH, they know also that to Mancham's conspiracy, with Rene.

I do not blame them. I blame Mancham. Like SNP today, you cannot blame SNP Executive Committee for destroying SNP. The buck falls on one desk: the Priest Millionaire.

That is you, sell out!

If a family member walks into your house to kill you and he is about to kill you, are you going to remain loyal to him? It can be your Uncle, or your Godfather, you will save yourself in spite of his will to kill you or will you die in silent dignity?

I am loyal to Seychelles my country. I am not loyal to sell outs that can be Mancham or Ramkalawan or anyone else who wants to sell out.

Your jealousy bleeds through your viens openly.

'Transparent and credible'
International election observers have criticised Zambia's ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy for abusing state resources during its campaign and noted serious media bias on behalf of the state broadcaster.

European Union Chief observer Maria Muniz said there had not been a level-playing field for all parties during the campaign.

She also noted some problems and delays in polling stations with isolated outbreaks of violence.

But she said overall the election had been generally well-administered and was so far, in the view of the mission, transparent and credible.

A full report would be produced within two months making a number of recommendations to the Electoral Commission of Zambia, she said.

Wynter Kabimba, secretary general of the opposition Patriot Front (PF), told the BBC that the party believed the results were being deliberately delayed because the government knew they had lost the election.

The MMD has ruled Zambia for 20 years and this is the fourth time that PF leader Mr Sata has run for the presidency.

Please leave Mr Gill out of your accusations. This man has done nothing wrong except provide Seychellois with a means to express themselves however they want. You are displaying a very typical islamic traits of trying to silence anyone who exposes your vile. As long as Mr Gill allows us to express freely on this blog I will forever warn Seychellois what's coming their way from Islamisation of paradise. Mr Gill has to defend himself against all sorts of personal attacks on this blog, yet he still allow the freedom of speech to flow. That is something that Islam cannot tolerate. If PL, SNP, MDP or whatever gives me space to write I will continue to expose the barbarian Muslims.
FYI no religion in this world except for Islam has ever kill people in the name of their religion. We do not commit act of evilness in the name of our faith like muslims. We do it out of our twisted individual path that we chose unlike how islam teaches their followers.
Preach forgiveness to your followers before trying to silence criticism

MDP candidates wait for payment

David Pierre’s and Jane Carpin’s accusations against opposition leaders have boomeranged on them. It is clear that all the money promises to entice candidates to stand in these elections have not been kept, despite indications that money has been deposited into some bank accounts. Candidates are upset and restless and some are threatening to withdraw their candidacy if no money is given out before the elections.

The situation gets more serious when candidates talk among themselves. They find out that different sums have been offered to different candidates, and that some have already received the lion’s share. But one thing does not change. None of them has received the amount they were promised.

Among the more serious questions being asked is what happened to the large sums of money received through a certain notary at Kingsgate House. The 5 million has already gone into the private bank account of a big chief, but it is never mentioned at meeting with candidates. Who’s got this money ?

They are all watching each other like thieves about to fall out. There is no honour among that lot. All sorts of fraught questions are being asked behind each others’ backs. A police telephone eavesdropper says he is shocked at the kind of chatter going on among these MDP candidates. They say that the main topic of conversation among these candidates is money, money, money. The other shocking revelation is how they curse David Pierre behind his back.

The talk of the town is about the money grab. People ask, tongue in cheek, how it will all end. Once more, we see that money is dominating politics in Seychelles and that there is a pressing need to make electoral reforms. That should have been done by the last national assembly before any farcical elections.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't David Pierre feel any shame at the quality of the candidates he is putting up ? This is all about putting up a candidate just for the sake of it, to make sure that Parti Lepep does not get 100% of voters on the register and make it easier for David Pierre to get 10%. Some of them cannot even pronounce "demokrasi", while emphasising they are the "opposition" candidate. They are obviously having great difficulty at being taken as an opposition candidate.

This election is not only a farce but it is also exposing Michel's ignorance. Even his junior team (MDP) is murmuring about Michel's presence in PL's PPBs where he says the government will control the MNAs. He is also very confused about the role of MNA, confusing the role of MNA with that of DA (or indeed the government) in districts where the MNA was SNP.

So the story of a Kok Maron in Mont Buxton is true. David Pierre told us yesterday that he has spent the last 4 years campaigning in Mont Buxton, although he did not say that he abandoned Mont Buxton for private business back in April. You will recall that in the story, Marie-Antoinette Rose asked the men of Mont Buxton to lock up their mothers, wives, sisters and daughters because there was a Kok Maron loose.

Boycott will move democracy forward

The legitimate opposition in this country, led by Messrs Ralph Volcere, Philippe Boulle and Wavel Ramkalawan, are leading this boycott in order to better strengthen democracy. We are not interested in titles or positions. We are interested in a level playing field where every Seychellois will enjoy a robust electoral system and thereby strengthen our democracy.

We boycott to show that Mr Michel is not sincere. For example, take his statement on SBC. He promises electoral reform and says he needs an assembly for that. Did we not have an assembly that Parti Lepep saw fit to dissolve ? Why did he not introduce reforms when SNP tabled the motion in the assembly ? Did we not see them vote against the motion ? Do we not see how he is conning people ?

A boycott will make the international community take this government to task and ask them to mend their bad ways. Just like it has happened in countries like Libya, Egypt and Tunisia where European Union countries and the United States intervened. This will happen in our country too when we show that Seychelles does not stick to international norms. A boycott will make this happen.

A boycott will also compel the government to make the appropriate reforms. The opposition will participate in elections if the law is applied robustly, voters’ register is kept clean and up to date, money is not used to buy votes, state resources are respected and SBC allows divergent views. Your boycott will make these necessary reforms happen.

Seychellois, we have before us the opportunity to make our democracy move further forward from the rut that it is in. We must grasp this opportunity. For these elections, either stay at home or spoil your vote. Boycott these elections.

Anonymous said...

Marie Louise Potter is back on SBC to correct her gaffe when she said boycott the opposition by voting. She is now making it a point to include David Pierre in the opposition. Too late. The cat got out of the bag a long time ago. These PPBs and spots are being rewritten as a direct response to the boycott.

These elections are between PL and the Boycott. Both PL and MDP make that clear. David Pierre is there to steal 10% and become leader of the opposition.

The Executive v The Legislative: a lesson for James Michel in democracy

James Michel is another reason why we must boycott these elections. In the party political broadcasts for Parti Lepep candidates, Michel dons his red shirt at State House, places the bemused the candidate next to him and says that he will make sure this candidate does some work. That is against the democratic principles of separation of powers. It is not the Executive that oversees the Assembly’s work. It is the Assembly that oversees the Executive’s work.

Statements like these tell us that Michel want an Assembly of “yes men”, a rubber stamp, that will do whatever he wants without asking questions. They also tell us that this man has no respect for the constitution that demands the separation of the Executive and the Legislative, and mandates the Assembly to oversee the work of the Executive. Why does James Michel want to do just the opposite ?

There is already a constitutional abomination whereby the President appoints the ‘Leader of Government Business’ in the Assembly. That is against the constitution because the president has no power to appoint anyone in the National Assembly, not even the Speaker. This is all further proof that the red party never embraced democracy in this country, but instead pay lip service to democracy to con us.

Seychellois, let us continue to open our eyes. As long as we participate in elections, where people are placed in the Assembly without them knowing what they are going to do, we will never move forward. We have the opportunity to make a stand and say that we reject that kind of machinations, and that we want to see democracy progress rather than live with this caricature of democracy.

On 1 October, we must keep the faith. Our choice is clear. We boycott this election in 2 ways. We stay at home or we spoil our vote. It is the least we can do for Seychelles.

This boycott is working.

It has given Michel and Faure new vocabulary -- electoral reform. But do not hold your breath that it will last after 1 October. It is their reaction to a panic about the boycott.

Gordon Square gets a break. Mischievously renamed Freedom Square by Parti Lepep's one-foot-in-the-grave founding fathers, it would by now be suffering an invasion by these anti-freedom, fat-arse, uncouth and loud-mouth Parti Lepep supporters. The boycott has forced them indoors and to beaches for picnics. The party has decided there is no point transporting their village pumpkins to town and is saving on transport hire costs, as there is no opposition to fight and to put on a display of strength for intimidation.

Denied their usual election campaign merriment of free-flowing booze and grub, it is anyone's guess how Parti Lepep's now confused and un-lubricated supporters will react in the polling booth. They will probably think they are being asked to vote for both PL and MDP candidates -- a tick for each. How about that ?

It was the DA administrators that were called to State House, again a sign of panic about the boycott and the need to energise Parti Lepep after this strange election campaign that has messed up their heads. DAs will now be trained to do their job properly. I thought during the presidential elections Michel promised elected district representatives, not to soup-up the existing party placemen and placewomen.

Is the 'victory' motorcade off too ? Will they not rub David Pierre's nose in it on Sunday 2 October ? Now, there's an unexpected victory for Seychelles and for Seychellois.

Anonymous said...

That should read village bumpkins. But pumpkins sound equally apt.

Anonymous said...

YES the boycott is working and working very well indeed.I personally think it will last and even accentuate after the election to give us the illusion Pp is serious about democratizing the process. The real question that crops up would those supposed reforms satify the citizen, probably not becuase no citizen ever has a chance to say what reforms the expect from PP,as all dictator Pp will reform to the extent that any reforms undertaken won't impede or put at risk the regime.
PP has been preaching about reforms for the last fourty years, and most importantly RENE proclaim when he passed hand to Michel that there would be real reform to democratize politcal life instead Michel is bragging us into one communist party state.

VOTER EDUCATION

(Creole version put out by Electoral Commission)

Free and fair elections -- when are elections free and fair ?

1) When all candidates and political parties can campaign according to agreed rules (election law and code of conduct) without restrictions, intimidation and abuse.

2) When all citizens can express his political views without the fear of victimisation.

3) When all registered voters can vote, without interference.

4) When elections are orderly, impartial and transparent.

5) When all candidates are prepared to accept the result of elections held in accordance with above principles.

The above must have come from some manual on the conduct of free and fair elections, not from past experience in Seychelles. It is also not the full monthy, as it does not deal with the conduct (misconduct) of state media like SBC.

4 applies, as this refers to voting days. 3 applies in parts only. In the past international observers have concentrated on 4 only.

What an indictment of democracy in Seychelles ! It is an argument for electoral reform and boycott, backed up by international norms for free and fair elections.
