SEYCHELLES PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS? WHO WILL YOU VOTE FOR?

STAR ELECTION POLL

We are now entering the final week where Seychellois voters will have to decide who to vote for.

STAR would like to start a poll through this blog site to get the honest opinions of voters.  We want everyone to come online and blog and tell us honestly what they thought of the candidates and their messages during the broadcasts. Let us keep our debates clean and stay away from insulting each other. Instead, let us talk about each of the four candidates and what we really thought of their programs for the future. After all, we will all be voting next weekend for one of those 4 candidates listed below in alphabetical order.

Boulle Philippe - Independent Candidate
Website: http://www.timehascome.sc/profile.htm

Michel James - Party Lepep
Website: http://www.partilepep.com/pl/index.php

Ramkalawan Wavel - SNP
Website: http://www.snpseychelles.sc/

Volcere Ralph - New Democratic Party

Also tell us what is the most important reason for wanting to vote or not vote for a particular candidate. For example, are you concerned with corruption? Is crime, violence and drugs worrying you? Is the state of our health system your primary concern? What about education? And the state of our economy and our bankruptcy and IMF administration? The Police or Army? And what about our lack of investment in areas such as water and electricity? What about sale of State land to foreigners? And what about Seychellois citizenship, passport selling schemes and immigration reforms?  Please feel free to comment and write about your personal concerns and why it will affect the way you vote.

Good initiative Star!
I think I was impressed by Boulle. The thrust of his campaign is to eliminate corruption as an essential precursor to resolving the ills of our society and secondly to achieve that is by having a group of persons "the best person for the job" to work on these ills. Problems of seychellois nationality given to foreigners and the establishment of a truly independent judiciary seems to be other key components of his campaign. I liked his confidence and determination but I am unsure about how far he has been able to reach out to the electorate. Ralph also had some very good points and so did the SNP and both of them also revolved their campaign around high levels of corruption in the system. SNP has a bit of a credibility risk because of the baggage they carry with them. Amongst the three opposition candiates for the moment my vote goes to Boulle.

My friends and I have been following this blog for over a year now and this is the first time I comment. In fact, it was hard to find the comment button on this blog, but thank you Star for this opportunity to write comments about the upcoming elections. I wish everyone in Seychelles could see what is written here and I will be sending the Star link to all my local friends and my University friends who are still in England and who sadly still cannot vote. Hear that Mr. Gappy and Mr. Michel?

I watched all the PPBs and just finished watching the 4 candidates in their final SBC broadcasts. Here is my opinion.

James Michel is a pathetic old man who should have retired when Albert Rene stepped down. He was making even more promises when today I didn't even have running water at my house. As a graduate, five years he will not get from me but no doubt he will get plenty of votes from the monkeys jumping up and down in the field today, most of them paid to come down, or drunk and afraid of losing their jobs next week or getting their names struck off the housing list.Sadly, Michel will also get the votes of opportunists like Alain St.Ange,Edmond Mussar, Walter Green, Alvin Grandcourt, Derek Savy and others who are nothing but traitors to a democratic cause. They are the two-faced enemies and it just goes to show that everyone has a price and will sell their souls to the devil, just like when Judas sold Jesus to the Jews for a few pieces of silver. What is even more sad is that people like Derek Savy and Grancourt will soon find themselves without any friends as their new Party Lepep friends will be nowhere to be found come May 22nd. They will become outcasts once the election is over unless State House has a job for them in the garden. Derek and Alain, if you happen to read this, you both know me quite well as I also work in the tourism industry. I am still shocked at your behaviour and appearance on TV asking us to give Michel another 5 years. Have you both forgotten who destroyed the tourism industry in the first place? What promises have you received from Michel? Minister and PS of tourism? Well, Michel is not one to keep promises so I say keep dreaming.

SNP had some excellent PPBs and I have a different view of Wavel and Nicola Prea as they came across as genuine and ready to work for a better Seychelles. Many of my friends voted for SNP the last time around and many have confirmed that they will vote for him again. At this point, SNP is second on my list and I will wait to see what happens this week before making up my mind about SNP.

Ralph Volcere made some excellent points and what is important is that he showed how corrupt and inefficient James Michel is. I don't believe Volcere will get many votes because SNP and Boulle's PPBs were quite good. But I salute Volcere for his courage.

My vote at this point goes to Philippe Boulle. Not because of his charisma and charm on TV, but because he was the only one who made sense and he had a profound effect on me. I have never voted for Boulle before, but this time I listened carefully and he made a lot of sense. A Government of National Unity is what Seychelles needs in order to make the transition from a corrupt government to a democratic one. His stance on the judiciary and on the sale of our citizenship were the best amongst all the candidates and I firmly believe that if he wins, we will see an exceptional group of Seychellois and Seychelloise at State House who are honest, hard working and ready to lead by example. So one vote goes to Boulle.

Keep up the good work Mr. Gill and Star and let the debates flow freely.

The thought of seeing James Michel on SBC for five more years makes me want to vomit. SNP has my vote as Wavel will be a good President.

Anonymous said...

Boulle would be a priority choice of the lot, although I do not give him any credit and legitimacy in terms of a dedicated leader who works beyond election period.

Anonymous said...

This is indeed a good initiative by STAR and I hope the poll here will give us a good indication of the election outcome. But I doubt that Michel gave out free laptops and free internet connection at the rally today (lol), so we won't be getting too many Party Lepep comments on this blog. Ignorance is bliss and Rene's experiments at NYS have actually succeeded. When ex-camp leader Danny Faure says jump, these fools actually jump. Are our Seychellois people really that STUPID?

Boulle impressed me the most with his ideas for a Government of National Unity and I like his stance on taking back the citizenship of people who acquired them illegally. Ramkalawan was a close second.

Honestly, I have not decided who to vote for yet and will wait until I get to the voting station.

Poor Derek Savy. Wonder what Michel promised him? Did Judas St.Ange promise him a job at STB or did the porno king Gilbert Pool flash some cash? Or did Serjana and Bastienne give him a private tour of the State House bedrooms?. Careful Derek, these pussies can bite. Just ask Michel.

I am an ex-SPPF and will vote for Father Wavel this election.

People should vote for SNP and get this over in round one. However, both Boulle and Volcere had impressive TV campaigns. They both focused on specific issues. Boulle would appeal to intellectuals who had the attention span to follow his arguments. Volcere has been a formidable campaigner. He focused on specific issues that may well click with PL voters who are thinking of changing the way they vote (do they exist ?). The intellectuals would have admired Volcere's campaigning nous, but would have also realised that he was not really talking to them but to uneducated PL voters. He was right to harp on about the 5 billion dollars in overseas bank accounts but he did stretch the truth about what can be done with this money. He got it right in an earlier PPB but on Sunday he decided to sex things up.

Anonymous said...

Michel changed tack at the last minute. He decided to promise reforms. It lacks credibility because he has had 7 years as president. He even promised more democracy -- elected district reps, something that will work against PL's interests ! Shows that it was all last minute panicking. Can't believe people are seriously thinking giving Michel 5 more years and it will be 5 more years in 2016. He has had enough time.

Anonymous said...

That was a huge snub by Rene. He does not like turncoats, with those Spup people who deserted him. He is not impressed with Misel parading his money-grabbing turncoats.

The presence of Mancham around Michel at official functions must have riled Rene who never forgets or forgives.

As far as I know Mancham had not endorsed Michel publicly. It could have been a kiss of death anyway. But his decision to stay out of it publicly should enhance his statesman status that he seems to cherish dearly -- just a little bit though.

I'm not sure who gives a rat's ass about what we think (just look at the people who came to Freedom Square today - do they have access to internet?)but I'll express an opinion anyway. I was pleasantly surprised with Boulle's and Vocere's campaigns. I especially appreciated the fact that from very early on they were clear about who the real enemy was and did not waste time attacking each other within the opposition camp.I will be voting for Wavel only because I believe he's the only one capable to defeat Michel. However, if elected, I would very much like to see Volcere and Boulle in an SNP administration.

Anonymous said...

It's clear when looking at people at Freedom Square that Michel and Lepep has made full use of Khalifa's dollars to mobilise everyone they could possibly lay their hands on. The 5-7,000 people we saw in the rally today may be the totality of Michel's support today. and even then, there are many who were compelled to be there just to be seen and be in the good books. The real support will be known in the ballot box on Saturday.

Anonymous said...

Albeit a good initiative, it smacks like navel-gazing to me. Lepep supporters in their vast majority do not have access to this blog and those of us who do are mostly supporters of one opposition grouping or other. We'll be voting for one of the opposition candidates or other. OK my vote goes to Wavel although I think Boulle and Volcere were very good.

So our president is calling for "renaissance morale" in our country. Does this include not cheating on wife's wife and sleeping with somebody else's wife???? Please give me a break.

Anonymous said...

There is an undercurrent and yearning for change which no one can avoid, but there is also the formidable structure of Lepep which will still be active this coming week. I have voted for SNP before but Boulle's campaign has impressed me this time. (By the way I have been with SNP right from Parti Seselwa and the United Opposition. I know that Boulle left UO then because his team was not happy about the undemocratic behaviour of Father Wavel, Jean-Francois then) I like Father Wavel but I feel that between him and Boulle, Boulle is the one who will be able to bring people from all the parties together. I work in the government and from my friend's comments, I feel that Boulle would be more trusted than Father Wavel to bring change for all Seychellois.

I have been a friend of Philippe Boulle’s wife for years and consequently a friend of the family. I know that Philippe has been fighting for democracy during the one-party state and into the multi-party era. I don’t know why he broke up from the United front with the other parties but I know that Philippe is a very principled man so there must have been something of consequence that caused him to split up with the group. I also knew Gaby Hoareau and Ralph Volcere who also formed part of this group and who also left, so it is not a difficult deduction for us to come to a reasonable conclusion about the problems which may have existed between some officials of the SNP and them. By the way I am an ex-DP but gave Philippe my vote at the last elections. He has and continues to impress me with his passion and patriotism and this came across very strongly in his television address. I know he has financed his campaign from his own means and for me this proves the value of his love for his country. He is a very focused person and I believe given the opportunity he can put together a good team of dedicated people to bring about the changes much needed for our beloved Seychelles. He definitely gets my vote once again!

There is a poor line up for opposition candidates this coming election.Mr Ramkalawan is always talking about corruption but we all how corrupt he is.[written about by Christopher Gill]SNP should have someone new for this election but ramkalawan dictatorial instincts forbids it.No wonder people are deserting him, no one wants to stick by a bully and dictator.
Mr Ralph Volcere is a fighter but he is not a leader, just ask the people he has trampled on.
Mr Boulle is a wiseass, he thinks he is a know it all.
But my vote will go to Mr Boulle since i feel he is the only honest man of the lot.

In his PPBs shot in his State House office, Michel looks like a little schoolboy making silly gestures with his hand. The setting was designed to make him look presidential but he failed even after 7 years in the post.

Anonymous said...

Mr Boulle was the most convincing, his manifesto is base on what he knows best JUSTICE which is the pivotal for any meaningful, democratic control of politcal corruption which has become Pp national sport for the last thirty four years. But on the over hands he missed some important issues that are of great concern to the citicenry namely the selling of their patrimony to foregners, human rights abuses and so on.He would be definitely a good manager but no necessarily a good leader.

Michel and thugs are singing the same old song since thirty three years REFORM but we all know what reforms mean ofr Michel_pp.bankruptcy,patronage,cronyism,etc.In fact i did not understand a words coming from his mouth, which by the way it is the best way to understand whatv he says.Communism is absolete and should be rejected.

RAM was quit good in preaching the gospel of corruption and made some good points, but as always he did not seemed convinced by his own words .May be he still holds to his own words"that he is not fit to be President".

Volcere quite pertinentand aloquent on general issues but unfortunatey won^t be enough to shake Pp.

Boulle and Volcere have not done enough to win over PL. We do not want a second round because PL will put even more pressure on the voters to vote for them.

Great job by Boulle and Volcere in addressing issues that PL have swept under the carpet. The lack of rancour among opposition candidates has been remarkable. The 2 or 3 high profile defections were deplorable. But the election is too tight to risk a second round.

Vote SNP to remove PL. We are still looking for a historic change of government and we must back the party most likely to bring that change in the first round.

Impressed with Boulle. He's made some strong points. Wish he was working within a united force.Under normal circumstances I would vote for him but at this stage I want an immediate change. The 3 or 4% of the votes that Boulle may get won't dislodge SPPF/ Parti Lepep.
I'll be voting for Wavel.

How,
Abstention by voters will be a sign of non- confidence of Pp regime and thus deligimatize pp and would send a clear signal to the opposition that other means of struggle must be concidered.

SPPF was an illegitimate outfit from 1977 to 1993. It did not bother them. PL will be happy with a boycott by opposition supporters.

Both Barra and Savy look rather shifty in those PL PPBs or adverts. They are intelligent enough to realise they were doing it for money and it was wrong and demeaning for them.

Give the man credit where credit is due - a tough task to perform running as an independent candidate. Admittedly one must have a high opinion of oneself and one's abilities, nothing wrong with this however, since for many people, the norm is still living off favours and allowing Lepep to be their crutches as we have seen with the opposition defectors, without any self-esteem or dignity. Philippe Boulle has impressed me with his understanding of what is necessary to see Seychelles through this transition to real democracy i.e. remove corruption, independent judiciary, strong police force etc. I do believe he was also very passionate about sale of passport and nationality. I believe he is honest and sincere. I agree with a previous comment that he is more able to bring together ppeople from across the politcal spectrum which Wavel will not be able to do. I do not believe Wavel can deliver in the first round because of all the adverse publicity about SNP and even worse he will not be winning voters from Party Lepep as they despise him. So Philippe gets my vote....

A boycott of these elections would have worked if all (the SNP, NDP and Boulle) had boycotted as well.

My vote for these elections goes to Wavel Ramkalawan because at this point in time he is the only hope we have.

I do not condone his actions/behaviour as Leader of the SNP & the Opposition over the latst 5 years. In fact i condemn it to with utmost force. I wish that he would have done the right thing and unified the opposition, he has not done that. I wish that he had not broken off the alliance with the NDP (this has severely weakened him) and all that ensued and that he had not voted for an auterity budget and increase in his salaries, i hope that this was a lapse of judgement (a lapse that is costing him) but faced with the evil that the SPPF/PL is, i beleieve that all 'thinking' opposition supporters should vote for the candidate that is closer to removing the SPPF/PL.

I am however a democrat and respect the decision of Volcere and Boulle to participate in the elections, they have run a wonderful campaign and have not attacked Ramkalawan/SNP at all. It is logical that they should desiist and ask their supporters to vote for Ramkalawan.

Let's see what the word is on the streets - anybody knows? People are not talking. But don't take them for granted either. Danny Faure talked about mindset all the time. The mindset is shifting drastically as all the candidates managed to reach into people's sitting room via television and radio. The fact that there were a few candidates, a bloody good thing I say, allowed critical issues to be emphasised. Now we have to decide who we think will be the best leader....the jury is out....

Anonymous said...

Vox, what gives you the impression that SNP is closer to removing PL. For I do not see that based on everything that you have said, and more, I think SNP is heading for a bigger defeat. Neither should we replace the devil we know, with the devil we know....and no I did not make a mistake here. (Christopher may have been extreme with his comments but for those who know the real story, he was not far from the truth with regard to Wavel's persona and character! Those of his supporters who have defected to Lepep were not necessarily wrong about him either) Did you notice that he did not have his old supporters and financial backers supporting him. The only ones left are Bernard Georges????, Jean-Francois Ferrari???? etc...(apart from David Andre for whom I have great respect) but he is also an old faithful!!

Anonymous said...

Barra did not tell us anything that we have not heard before from SNP's opponents and he had a mischievous smirk on his face. Probably thinking his new paymasters are fools. The fear that Barra would herald a public exodus of high profile faithfuls did not materialise. All the defectors including David Pierre (the biggest loss to SNP's campaign) had been talked about for sometime. Defections had the potential to sap confidence in SNP but I do not think they have had a big impact. Apart from Pierre who has to be given the benefit of the doubt as he had a genuine grievance, it is clear that others have been bought off. Hope PL keep their end of the bargain, if they win.

You guys have spent the last 12 months bashing Wavel and the SNP. I believe you may be the main culprits should, God forbid, PL wins the elections. Instead on concentrating your fire on Michel and his corrupt bunch, Gill spent most of his time attacking Wavel, while at the same time preaching unity in the opposition.

It is now probably too late to change things. Voters have, in the main, probably made up their minds and it is not your persistent masturbation that will change the outcome. You should simply replace the devil you know with one you 'think' you know. At least you have a small chance of getting it right, because with Michel again, it is hopeless. So take those last few hours to swallow your egos and call on voters to vote for anyone but Michel.

What is it about those running our economy ? The IMF man who is really in charge of our economy is in a cell in New York awaiting trial on sex charges. Was surprised to hear the SNP in their final campaign spot resort to a very dirty tactic calling on voters not to vote for the independent candidate nor Ralph because a vote for them would be a vote for Lepep. It is dirty because Boulle did not attack them (Ralph did snipe at SNP here and there) It could have been an easy campaign walk over, to draw the electorate's attention to SNP sleeping with the enemy during the course of the last 5 years. There are many examples of it. But this is so like the SNP, and it is not the likes of Christopher Gill who causes their demise, it is their own destructive and arrogant mentality. As soon as they see the possibility of victory, they want to trample on all in its path...A sense of deja vu for some of us??? Some people just never learn.

Reply to Devil you Know-

You blame me for Wavel's woes. I do not accept your false accusations.

I have pleaded, begged, even allowed myself to be used in an SNP convention to unite the opposition. So do not tell me to put my ego aside.

Mr. Ramkalawan agreed to unite the opposition, after he single handedly broke the SNP DP alliance.

If there was unity in rank and file, would any one consider Boulle as an option today? No.

If there was unity in opposition, would anyone consider Volcere as an option? No.

If there was unity, would MSR exist ? No.

If there was unity, would Viral Dhanjee be facing courts on the denial of his candidacy? No.

If there was unity would David Pierre have the nerve to walk out on SNP? No.

Who is responsible for dividing the opposition ? Ramkalawan.

After denegrating me and MSR for one year on the principles of Sesel Pou Seselwa, what do we see now at the end of the PPB? Ramkalawan saying he believes in

Sesel Pou Seselwa!

I am begining to think Ramkalawan belives in whatever brings in the cash. So I just do not trust him. From what we know about he is not to be trusted as we would not trust Michel with out lives.

Defections have not had an impact on SNP? Oh but I think it has, but who expects them to admit it, no-one, just like if I was in their place I would not either.

Wavel was at pains however to try and explain to a group of people about his good intentions about David Pierre and his plans to name him as his successor. I did not see anyone picking up the fact that Wavel had no right to do this as it was up to his supporters to decided on the one to replace David. Nevertheless, if he was so fond of David, why is it he never told him about it to reassure him about the future and what his plans were for him. Suddenly when he is gone Wavel starts singing praises about his potential. A lot of b...sh...t. This is called damage limitation my friends.
But David is not the only one to have left the SNP as we have seen on the Lepep programmes...
Christopher Gill is not to be blamed if SNP lost the elections, and worse still loses further to the other opposition groups. SNP is controlled by a group of middleaged men who it seems have never grown up. The only problem is that they will all retire nicely on a pension unparalleled in any other country, so why should they be too bothered.

There seems to be a misunderstanding of the realistic strategy to remove Party Lepep.
Boulle has the support of both opposition supporters and Lepep supporters.
If he is in the second round with Lepep he will get most of the opposition supporters and with his Lepep supporters will likely win the second round.
Wavel has only supporters of the opposition. If he is in the second round all Lepep supporters who backed Boulle would go back to Lepep and Wavel will likely lose to Lepep. Simple as that!!

The ballot paper needs more respect from both Michel and Volcere.

Volcere is wearing sunglasses. Can't believe he had no money to pose for a new photo. If the tactic was to attract attention on the ballot paper, he'll probably succeed. His sunglasses will also attract attention to Michel who is just below Volcere. Bang goes the expectation that some Lepep supporters will have difficulty finding Michel at the bottom, or think that Ramkalawan has already won because he is top of the ballot paper.

Michel's photo must be at least 10 years old. Why won't this vain man grow old gracefully just like all 3eme az who can't afford plastic surgery or dye for their hair, moustache or pubic hairs ? Not very presidential leadership !

Anonymous said...

Let's stick to the point: who will we vote for.
My vote goes to Boulle. Volcere was good I like him a lot but he once took bride from SPPF so I can't trust him. Michel & Ramkalawan in the dustbin.

Anonymous said...

We're between the devil and the deep blue sea: Michel and Ramkalwan. Which is which I'm not sure but I.m sure that I would a thousand times prefer to have Ramkalawan than Michel. Another 5 years on michel? Bon Dye Papa sov nou pei.

Anonymous said...

You can't have it both ways. You can't vote for Boulle and vote to remove Michel. Only a vote for SNP has a realistic chance of removing PL. I would dread to think what the political and security situation will be like for the 2 weeks between first and second rounds, if Boulle or Volcere does well. If either Boulle or Volcere had filled up Freedom Square during the campaign, I would be squarely behind them.

The Catholic Church has been very subservient to the state during the last 34 years. I was rather surprised to hear its forthright statement on the election yesterday. Denis Wiehe is asking the candidates to respect the result of the election. He is also asking the army and police to behave professionally and exercise restraint.

This is the first election where it is guaranteed that PL will go if defeated. Another reason why we should grasp with both hands the opportunity for a peaceful and democratic change of govenment by supporting SNP.

Guys do you realise that the five or six of us posting messages here have ABSOLUTELY no influence on the outcome of this election? We're all trying to analyse, profess, confess, but at the end of the day, it's the ordinary seychellois out there who are the masters and who will decide this election. From what I feel, they're ready for change - whether we here are happy or not.

I will vote for Father Ramkalawan. He is the only hope.

Michel is a joke. Volcere was trying. Boulle was good. But Wavel was sincere. He gets my vote.

From down under in Melbourne. Fuck Rene and fuck Michel. I want to vote but I can't. If I could I would vote for myself.

Cooling off period but let's cart the ambassadors out under the guise of the "annual meeting with the president". Poor Claude Morel-he's been put on the stop.Seychelles diplomacy at its best, Claude? I want to have what you're on. Please! Because everyday I hear so much shit coming from Michel and his government and now you come and add to it. Madame will be turning wherever she is. I see also that Dick Esparon and Ronny Jumeau have been camapaigning non-stop for the last few weeks - paid for by the taxpayers.

Anonymous said...

well done Boulle and Ralph! But Wavel has my vote - for the simple reason that at this stage, only he can defeat Michel. But having you both in an SNP government would be great.

Anonymous said...

Seychellois in Canada, like elsewhere overseas will again not be able to vote. We leave this privilege for Mohamed Sarif, Morlem Kailapatham, Yuri Stovolov, Wing Tuck Kan. My vote would have gone to Wavel Ramkalawan. Keep it up Wavel and good luck on Saturday! You've run a brilliant campaign. No public rallies. Keep them guessing. A few friends are getting together to celebrate your well-deserved victory. HR

Anonymous said...

Boulle, Ralph and Wavel in the next government, I say, and change this country forever.

Anonymous said...

Depending who you talk to of course each one supports his own candidate, but I have been extremely surprised by the amount of support Boulle has gained on the ground. His performance among the three candidates is certainly in the mouths of everyone you meet both within and outside the opposition camp. It's very difficult to have a precise indication of where the votes will go but I think we should prepare ourselves for a good surprise come election time. I will go with my gut instinct and give him my vote.

I am voting for Wavel Ramkalawan. If he loses, he can run again. We will dump Prea and replace him with someone else.

PL is giving out beers, whiskey, money, and an occasional burger for those who do not ask for more.

They pay a voter 50,000 each for those that insist on payment.

Some are paid 150,000 each for those with political influence.

Top class influence will fetch Sr. 1 Million or more.

Everyone voting for PL must ask for their 150,000.00 and ask that they be put on the paint list, roofing list, and housing list, and free tickets to Mauritius list on Air Seychelles.

This is the reality of PL.

With a united opposition, this is curtailed. With a divided opposition, it becomes a prolific tactic. This being the case, the elections are marred with cohersion and bribes. It cannot be legitimate.

Sesel Pou Seselwa!

Anonymous said...

The Roman Catholic Church has also issued a statement against taking bribes for your vote, selling votes or buying votes.

Anonymous said...

When will the Church stand up and say the elections are not free or fair if bribes are used, or if people are denied the right to choose their leaders? And are allowed only to choose he who SPPF PL accepts as a candidate?

Anonymous said...

Bribes and coersion would not be so much of a problem if come election day people still voted according to their conscience. But this is asking for too much isn't it? And Parti Lepep knows it.
Very very impressed with Boulle. He should form part of an SNP government. I vote for Ramkalawan. Volcere also did very well and should have a place in a new government.

Anonymous said...

My vote goes to Wavel. Heshould bring Volcere and Boulle in his government.

Anonymous said...

Go Father Ramkalawan, my family is behind you. When you win, invite Boulle and Volcere into your Government and let us show some unity. We are close to victory and may GOD help these poor souls who are still looking for a handout from Michel. May they see the light sooner rather than later.

Hats off to Boulle for his impressive campaign.Although he might not win, i share his visions in rebuilding this country with strong institutions with separation of powers for checks and balance, allow the people to live freely in security, freedom of expression and live in dignity. We need to regain our country and bring to justice those corupt PL/SPPF.

There is out there on the streets a feel that some SNP members are already acknowledging their regrets and frustration of RAM miscalculation for not uniting the opposition. What we can say is that he was repeatedly told by MSR and others to do so,now that he is walking through the mine fields that Michel has set up for him he releases that unity would have been the best option to adopt in order to make a meaningful dent into the PP ,unfortunately too late to reverse course .

Boullé was extraordinary dito to Volcere, just imagine the effects they would have had if they would have fusion their ideas into one competely plan,Michel would have long been electrocute from his iron chair not even Gappy manipulation would have been enough to save him form defeat.

My dear anonymous friends. What you should realise is that Wavel, Jean-Francois and company never wanted to have a united opposition front unless they had their positions secured. This has been the case since 1993, when Boulle saw their greed and back tracking on arrangements - deja vue Christopher? DP? and this has been their mode of operation always. They have been riding on a high, on DP's back following DP's demise (mind you for this I don't blame them because its politics) Of course individual SNP members in the assembly have promoted and defended some important issues, but the biggest slap in the face was the large increase in salaries and pension to themselves at a time when the ordinary men on the streets were going without and still are. After all even if this was proposed by the SPPF they could easily have voted against knowing that they would also benefit anyway. But no, their glee and greed got the better of them. Can you imagine the likes of David Pierre now enjoying a pension for the rest of his life at this young age and after jumping ship, more than any hard working seychellois could ever expect to enjoy when he retires. There is something gross about this which makes my stomach turn. Throughout they have never cared about uniting the opposition because they are comfortable during their five years and come election time you see a frenzy of activities betting their victory on the frustration of others. Wavel is a bully and has not changed, and it worries me once in power how his behaviour may manifest against others. It is well known that when Barra left SNP and went to join Boulle's camp, he personally phoned Barra to threaten him. As an aspiring leader and president of our country it is unacceptable, worse still because it was to someone who had upsetted him....To all the SNP apologists, remember at the last elections when you were all riding high with the thought of victory in sight, you had put together quite an array of supposedly big guys including JRM.....Today, the figures just don't tally and you only have yourselves to blame. I will give my vote to Boulle without any hesitation. He has always been there for the underdog, but it's just he never bragged about it!!

Isaac was in a meeting with the Commonwealth for 2 hours yesterday and could hardly find the time to comment on STAR.

Today he is meeting with SADC observers all day and does not have time for STAR.

Name dropping his name and attributing comments to him when they are from someone else shows lack of integrity on the part of the commentor.

Isaac has exposed PL and SNP on Face and we salute his courageous eefort. His vehicle that he uses has taken a bullet for it. You should treat him with respect he merits.

Boulle for his part has been a great fighter for the cause when he turns up. I salute him for turning up , but he can do more.

SNP is shameful and anyone that waste a vote on SNP waste a vote for Seychelles. They may as well close shop since they will get less then 20% in this election.

Boulle and Volcere as protest votes, will turn the rot at Green Acres if things do not change fast.

All opposition must unite and boycott this election.

You candidates who give credibility to Michel, must pull out of the race and take to the streets where we are all equal.
Once you do that, the Church will have to follow , so will LUNGOS.

RAM has already been cut deep in his flesh he is now licking his wound and his dream for the higher office would remaind an illusive objective ,i guess the remedy for his party after the election would be to ask him to demission.
I agree that when uniting different parties, each leader will try to protect his own interest but it is also true that when they are fighting the same opponent the best arm to achieve success is unity and cohesion. And moreover ,a leader should be flexible as well as pragamtic to changing situations that one faces.

I sincerely like his fighting and defiance spirit and indeed his courage, but with all due respect he is at times very misguided and misinformed in his comments. You will agree with me that this removes any legitimacy and respect which he hopes to gain for the cause which he is fighting. I do say this in good faith and I hope he can be guided accordingly as he has potential. It will be a pity if this would go to waste as Seychelles needs all its courageous men and women.

After listening to some of those PPB's, I was very impressed Boulle's. He seems to have a plan all laid out & harponing on a government of National Unity.

Volcere, I can't really comment on his PPBs because I heard only the first one & he was really dis-organised & was just rumbling on without a clear plan. Wasn't really impressed with him at all.

With regards to SPPF/PL PPBs I got the chance to listen to their last one & then again Michel didn't impressed me also because he was once again giving out false promises. Talking alot about small businesses how he's gonna remove all red tapes, bureaucracies etc...They had 34 years to do all this & now they asking the populace another 5 years to do the same thing.

SNP's PPBs were sort of ok but I frankly expected more from them. They should have attacked SPPF/PL manifesto & comment on the loopholes. They have a programme in place but they don't know how to sell it to the people unfortunately.

But saying that my vote will go to SNP because I feel simple because they are a threat to party Lepep & our only hope so far. But what will really be a victory for seychelles & its people is that if SNP wins this elections. I would love for them to bring on board Boulle & Volcere & create a government of national unity as Boulle proposed. If that happens, that will be the demised of SPPF/PL.

Well all those pseudo-Seychellois wil be voting too thatis onecondition and the reason why they were illegally gifted our nationality ,to modify our society, make seychellois second class citizen in their own country and influence the result of election to keep Pp articifially on power.

Jumeau will have the right to vote though he is abroad for he is a communist while the thousands of other Seychellois who were illegally denied their legitimate rights to participate would not simply because they would have voted against Pp or it could also be that for many Seychellois abroad their names are on Pp register list without their knowledge thus give Pp a free hand to rig the election.

When an election is not free and fair i do not see how you can vote out Pp ,a boycott would have been more effective for it would have deligimize Pp and, the opposition could have called on their supporters to take into the streets which would have as a consequence automatically forced Pp into negociation or else.

Pp attempt of murder on Isaac should have been condemned by all political parties and they should have called for an immediate investigation by an independent body .Going to international bodies to inform them is necessary and should be expended to other international organization such as the new York based Committee to protect journalism and the Paris- based reporters sans fontières, the two instituions have in the past brought up to the awareness of the international communities many abuses, attempts of murder, unpunished killing, etc committed by dictators around the world, they could be a great help to expose Pp criminal gangs.

In this election one other thing that would have been interesting to do is conducting an" EXIT POLL .Unlike an "OPINION POLL" which asks whom the voters plan to vote for ,an EXIT POLL ask the voters who they voted for. This could have given us a insight of the degree of fraud conducted by Pp if any , becuase then we could have compared the official results given by the district officials on one hand and that of the national results given by Gappy after the final count with the Exit poll gathered. This would have also given us an idea of to what extent the fraud was conducted and in which district .It would have been a good tool to comfront Pp with the facts. This tactic was effectively used by the actual Prime of Kenya in the last election ,bying doing so he was able to clearly proved irregularities and in which districts they took place, which as a result forced his opponent to accept defeat.

Having watched all the PPB's I will comment as follows:

JAM (FAR): Been in power for 34 years - f****d up our tourism industry, chased all the brains out of Seychelles, natonalised and controlled all major business including IDC ! JAM has the audacity to stand up there and preach a new Sesel. I do not have time for him. I do not trust him.Seychelles is 34 years late due to SPUP/SPPF/PP.

VOLCERE: Tries to say the right things but lacks experience for high office.

BOULLE:By far the most appealing. Well thought out and said all the right things. Unfortunately, he will not get my vote because he is not strong enough to unseat SPPF/PP.

WAVEL: Looks sincere, seems to have a plan and I would place them second to Boulle. A vote for Wavel is our best chance to unseat JAM. Hence, Wavel will get my vote, but I do not expect him to win because we have too many Seselwa Fabrike who are allowed to vote whilst many Seselwa Rasin are not allowed a vote.

SPPF have managed to change the mix of Seselwa. We now have more Indian, Chinese, Russians, South Africans and many others who has more rights that Seselwa Rasin...hence the reason PP will be victorious.

I wish the churches - especially the two main ones were more outspoken about the high level of bribery and personal insults from Lepep.
Christopher, you're a sad man my friend. You're problems with Wavel are clearly more than the fact that he's not united the opposition. You sound like a pathetic bitter man. You will be reminded on 21 May that politics are not run from behind a computer. Blog do not get Madame Esther in Anse Kerlan to shift her vote from Lepep to another party - least yours.

We are a docile people. No other country would accept such a situation. As for Gill, he did sweet f-a during the campaign. It is quite clear he wants Michel to win. No body will go on the streets to protest for democracy, human rights, immigration and good governance. Otherwise they would vote for the opposition. People will protest when they are hungry and that is a long way off.

So, Gill, sort yourself out before you advocate something that will allow PL to stay in power for years by default.

You are wasting your time running to the Commonwealth etc. Do they care that the government has given out citizenship to all and sundry to get more votes ? They do not.

Anonymous said...

According to the Constitution, to stay in power, Michel needs to get more than 50% of ALL the votes cast in the election, that is putting together the votes of all the presidential candidates.

Therefore whatever vote you cast for any opposition candidate is a vote cast against Michel to bring him below 50%in the first round of the elections. This means that you are free to vote for any candidate of your choice and the result will be the same as far as making sure he doesn't get the 50% or more which is required for him to win in the first round.

The constitution then provides that if no one gets more than 50% in the first round (which is likely to be the case) there shall be a second election between the two candidates who get the most number of votes.

Therefore your vote in the first round is a vote against James Michel and also a vote choosing who you want to go in the second round of the election against him.

Any person who comes in the second round against Michel will attract the votes of most of the opposition supporters and so there should be no constraint on any opposition supporter in choosing who he would wish to form the next government.

Admittedly while it is evident that any opposition candidate who comes in the second round will as said attract most of the opposition supporters, one who could attract defecting Lepep supporters may have an advantage in increasing the percentage that he wins over Michel.

Anonymous said...

This is where the candidate proposing a government of national unity has a final edge in defeating Michel in the second round......

Anonymous said...

Docile,
Firstly the reason why MSR candidate is not running is known.,Secondly the leader is not campaigning on the blog he is expressing his views .Thirdly internet has done what politicans could not do in decades,an example Mubarak was ousted out of power in 18 days and all was iniciated by bloggers something Egyptian politicanS could not do in FOUR DECADES dito to BEN ALI.

Seychellois are not docile.Being docile means accepting to obey and subject to others that is not a characteristic of Seychellois i would rather say they are too patience.Patience is waiting ,not passively waiting becuase it is then laziness.Patience is a concentrated strength and when patience explodes the consequences are unrepairable.

Jeanne d'Arc, do you seriously believe that the ordinary Seychellois gives a rat's ass about blogging and internet? What we write here is IRRELEVANT.

The make-up of these observer missions are a joke aren't they? I don't know why these organisations put members' money to better use - eg providing a water well for a village in Uganda? Seriously, what does Commonwealth hope to achieve by landing here 5 days before elections? Unless they want a holiday paid for by the hard-earned funds of member states. did somebody say that we should take our grievances to them? What are you on my friend? Wake up and smell the coffee!!!

Anonymous said...

Of course they do, that explain why Pp refusse to provide internet access in all houses.Seychellois was and is always a nation who enjoy new things be it technology, clothings etc it is in our genes. What we writing are facts and if a biggest mass would have access to the internet today they would have had a better understanding of politics thus would probably vote differently then now beucase they would have been more educated on politics.

Observers are useful in elections but it all depend who they are.If it was Jimmy Carter and his team i would say great, but if it African well their understanding of a free and fair election is completely different form For instance Europeans.I give you an example,in Ethopia last election All Interantional observers,Human rights groups and other Interantion organization concluded that the election was rigged the only organisation who did not has problem with the election fraud was the African Union its observers said quote"everything was fair and the incumbent won" as you can see the degree of appreiaition of an African compare to a European is miles away from each other.

No doubt that Boulle and Volcere were very good in their PPBs. But the issues they raised were no different from what Wavel and SNP have been harping on for months and in some cases years now.Boulle and Volcere put them across differently, and they did a good job.But they are all the same issues of concern to every Seychellois who love our country and want to see change for the better. I have no doubt in the determination nor the ability of these two distinguished candidates to bring about change. However, where we are today, the only person with the level of national support and who can soundly defeat Michel is Wavel. I will be voting for him. I also agree that Boulle and Volcere have abilities and talents which I'm sure Wavel would wish to make use of in his new government.

Anonymous said...

For years, the opposition concentrated on democracy which we have found out is not a priority for the Seychellois. This time, SNP concentrated on bread and butter issues -- addressing each voter's question -- what's in it for me ? Volcere did the same.

Boulle concentrated on democracy and good governance, issues which the opposition previously concentrated on without electoral success. He impressed the clever ones, but not the average PL voter.

Seychellois want personal economic advancement and social security benefits before democracy and good governance. PL have long understood this.

Anonymous said...

I agree that the majority of the electorate do not consider democracy a priority but this is where the SNP/Ramkalawan went wrong with the party. They should have practiced internal democracy which would have created a culture and ultimately draw support to them. Bread and butter issues is important to the ordinary Seychellois!

Isaac is a person of great courage. I salute him for his efforts. He is his own man, and you have no right to demean his work.

As a collaborator, that you are, I see through your viens of fear. In your viens you carry red blood. The blood of all those who have been killed, murdered, to keep you comnfortable. This blood carries with it great failure on your part and on the part of your party, who bankrupted Seychelles, but who recently sold 97% of all our oil quadrant sites aswell, which no opposition candidate mentioned.

The oil is gone, before it can be found.

Additionally, you say I am arrogant. You are wrong. I am assertive, and purposeful in my effort to make people aware of Sesel Pou Seselwa! For this, Seychelles belongs to us Seselwa Rasin. It does not belong to anyone else. If you say this is arrogant, then you are likely a FABRIKE living off the crumbs that Michel tosses your way.

I believe our effort to educate our people has been very successful in the shor term of 1 year. All opposition candiddates may not have united as I asked, but they all stood up for Sesel Pou Seselwa. Unfortunately, their packaging of the theme was not good. It could have been better. Example, no one tied in the opposite argument of Sesel Pou Seselwa under Michel: Sesel Pou Arab!

The division in opposition is the fault of Ramkalawan, SNP Ferrari Mancienne. No one else.

Reply to SNP Apoligist- You are pathetic like your leadership. Today Seychelles opposition is divided, and you tell me I support Michel. It is Ramkalawan who supports Michel. If he was really fighting to win he would make an appeal for a BOYCOTT and protest while Observers are here now. If no opposition votes, the election cannot be credible. We can demand democracy and freedom, instead of being condemned for another 5 years under this less then smart PL leader.

Boulle has shined, and I credit the man. I only regret he has not made a full time effort and popped up one year prior. Having no party weakens his call.

Volcere- has done a very good job aswell, even out shing Ramkalawan.

Yet, SNP tells us not to vote for these people, after 5 years of division created by themselves. I am frankly speechless.

I will BOYCOTT these elections. I ask all to do the same. Do not give credibility to a not credible process.

If it goes to round 2, I will endorse whoever is the opposition for the sake of change. I will sponsor a bullet proof jacket for the candidate as well.

Viral Dhanjee is in court tomorrow to stop the elections. If he wins, I hope Ramkalawan can use the time to unite the opposition . If he loses, he will be able to motion the elections null and void on the upholding of his rights. Support him.We might need him.

I salute him for his effort while so many sleep.

Moreover, as there has not been any obvious signs that the SNP has actually increased its popularity, in fact all evidence shows the contrary, people should therefore feel totally free to vote for the person whom he or she feels is the best candidate and giving that candidate an opportunity to go in the second round. My vote will go to Philippe Boulle as I like his idea for a government of national unity. I believe if James Michel was to go, this is the kind of government Seychelles would need for the next five years, to get all its institutions and ministries in order so that any political party who would be elected thereafter will be accountable and transparent in the management of the country.

I was personally ashamed when i heard pastor bijoux stating in a comment in the conference with SADC that in his visits of candidates they remained silent no matter the issue brought forth in example he said "one candidate said he had proof for what he was talking about" as the pastor looked up he said we all meaning the seven religions on the visits turn to each other and remained silent.

I addressed that and got a lame response!!

Another was justice Renaud who according to the program sheets came highly qualified in term of the constitution and the electoral laws, so after his addressed i also demanded answers for why the fifth prayer submitted to the constitutional court by Mr Dhanjees lawyer was not addressed yet he was speaking as if the judiciary functions independently and fair heck he said to SADC it was independent and he felt secure making whatever verdict which is within the law. Yet he refrained to answer in light he might influence or be quoted in the court of appeals case!

Another was the electoral process whereby Afif of the Media Commission forgot he was not the electoral commissioner but came out at large to defend the not defend able and trampled over his own Magoo.

The question here is if truly Seychelles was so independent for a free and fair election to take place why did everyone refrain from addressing the key issues to the observers and to the religions when the time came??

What has happened to all these juicy articles examples buying of passports, money laundering, prostitution, drugs, killing of innocents by the state thugs??

Well what the opposition failed to do i did and i did so with proof!!

This is one of the reason why all should have boycott like us and maybe they would have stood a chance against PL.

Comes the 21st i want all those old faithfuls to freedom to know that as long as i am breathing and we have god almighty watching over us at MSR the idea of freedom will never die though it is fading today. Join us after this and lets rewrite history once and for all!!

God bless all the freedom loving Seychellois and everybody around the world!!

Seychellois this is the last chance that we have to give the PL a real RED CARD and off the game ankor senk for him to go and rest out of state house, the time has come for us to unite as Seychellois as we all know Sesel pou Seselwa and give the SNP the support for Seychelles not for Wavel or other persons, let us take back our country from those who stole it with a blood coup deta,I am sure that Mr Boulle and Mr Volcere also will have a good position in the SNP government, That I know the Seychellois will make it possible on the 21st May,we really need a change in this country, let us give our vote
to the party that has the possibility of winning the election let us not divide our vote and then face another 15years with Michel,Arabs, let us unite and make the difference so the Parti Lepep will learn what is real Democracy and once and for all the Seychellois people will be free in our country that God has given to us. I pray that you God will guide us to realize and understand that the election is every five years,I will be to old to wait for another 5yrs for a real change,

Remember Sesel pou Seselwa not for the political leaders for we civilians so let us vote for the one party that can win the election in the opposition,VOTE FOR SNP....not for Wavel and others but for a real change

All the Seychelles ambassadors have now arrived in Seychelles to vote on Saturday. This includes the frenchman LeGall whom michel appointed as Ambassador to China. They've all had their tickets paid and their expenses whilst in Seychelles paid by our money - the tax payers. Dick Esparon has been campaigning non-stop in Baie Lazare and Pointe Larue for several weeks now, and Jumeau in Beau Vallon and other areas. Both are desperate to hang on to their life of luxury abroad. They couldn't care less about the suffering of ordinary people. Le Gall will be voting, as well as the countless people who've been given a seychelles passport, whilst seychellois in Canada, UK, France, Australia and all over the world will not have that privilege.

The opposition parties must keep their eyes wide open, and note that there will be a lot of Indians construction workers who will have ID card to vote for lepep, and also the under age youths that will go and vote for lepep.

The dangerous poll will be the one on Praslin tomorrow, people will come all over the country to come and vote for Lepep,

I ask all the Seychellois to give Seychelles a vote, not one person Seychelles needs us and we have to attend to it's call.

Let all give Seychelles a real victory and real new Seychelles with a new government,do not split the vote we must unite for the real change.

Give Seychelles a real freedom and vote for SNP not for Wavel he is only the leader.

Reply to SNP Apologist last comment-

You seem to think people are stupid that follow this blog.

You say give SNP a vote, ignore Ramkalawan he is only the leader.

If that is the case, I call on SNP to withdraw your candidacy, give Boulle a vote, as president and Niaken.

Then, SNP can make up Boulle's government, and I am sure Boulle will opt in Volcere as a minister and Georges Bibi.

Afterall, Ramkalawan could hardly toss a stone in Boulle's direction intellectually.

As you panic in your mud of division, remember, we have called for a united opposition for years now. I have gone to great lengths to attempt to bring about unity in the opposition.

At each turn pike, I saw one man dividing the opposition: Ramkalawan. Behind him prodding the politics of division was JF Ferrari and Behind him, seeing no evil, hearing no evil and speaking no evil has been our good friend Roger Mancienne.

I call for a Boycott of the first round because of the divisions created by Ramkalawan and the rigged Voters List.

In the second round, we will know who to support in unity, in spite of themselves.

Sesel Pou Seselwa!

Stop being dishonest even at this late hour, Christopher Gill. You want Michel to win to prove whatever point you have been making.

Anonymous said...

Christopher, I agree with the above comment. I like your blog and patriotism but it is time for you to give Wavel a break as he is the only hope right now for kicking out Michel. Voting has started and we need to unite against lepep party. Most of us want Michel out and we will be voting for one of the other 3 candidates. But stop bringing SNP and Wavel down at this time.

Anonymous said...

All this crap about giving SNP your vote as it is the only party who could win this election does not make sense. First and for most in a democracy people choose their leader based on his political manifesto. If a person see that Mr Boulle's manifesto appeals to him he should vote for the candidate. Michel needs 50% to win if he cannot win 50% he cannot win as simple as that. It would be better that this election goes in a second round in order that SNP learn a vital lesson and this will force SNP to try and unite the opposition. What assurance do you have that Wavel would give Mr Boulle and Mr Volcere a position in this government since he never mentioned anything about a unity government in all his campaign. Please give us a break we are fighting for democracy.Let the people exercise their democratic right to vote for a leader that appeal to them. Remember the seychelloise adage ler ou presse ou manz manze so.

Getting PL out is more important than Boulle and Volcere getting positions in the government. The country comes first. Neither Boulle nor Volcere will get the sort of changes they have talked about in the campaign if Michel wins, in first or second round. Boulle will go back to his legal practice and reappear in 2016. Volcere will go back to Weekly. PL will get stronger and there will be no stopping Michel. He will think all he has done has been endorsed by the Seychellois people.

PL supporters don't read manifestos and then vote for the best candidate. Ironically, more PL supporters have suffered from the economic reforms and cuts in welfare. As we can see some of 2006 SNP supporters have benefitted from economic reforms (long advocated by SNP) and will probably vote with their wallet and vote PL.

Anonymous said...

It is time to vote the reds out!! When Chris Gill and the founding members of STAR were advocating that they were commies disguised as capitalists everyone took them for fools.

The tide is turning folks. You can see clearly that these 'supporters' were dragged pou fer ta bel! But they will get their biggest shock come 21st.

They are the most manupulative system as Seychelles is small and everyone knows everbody else. And they have used all this to their advantage. Look at their pathetic PPBS, they had to drag people to try and give them credibility.

The Seychellois people are not stupid. They have seen what is happening around the world and they will also vote for a change. Lepep will be in the garbage bin by Sat and you will all see the mass of people that will be out to celebrate - their own people, those that they have used and abused to zwe rol etc...

But the new government that will form will have to put a final end to this era of division. We will shine as a people in our unity and our diversity and not under a system where you are 'ek nou, pa ek nou'!

Long live Seychelles under a new vision and leadership. Let's heal. bring back those that have been exiled for so many years. Extend a hand to those that were used and abused by the system solely to get by.

The healing process starts after 21st May and all Seychellois from all walks of life will rejoice. Even those who have had to tow the line as civil servants to make the country function will be eleated. Even those who have been weak and been preyed on... there will be a place for everyone that we will all (the silent majority) create after 21st May - le jour de la deliverence....

i am very sorry to note that the last bloger needs a lesson on democracy. Please the people will vote for the best candidate according to their own mental judgement. If you want all seychelloise to vote for Wavel you are living in Alice world.Everybody want change but we have to respect the democratic rights of the people. That was a hell of a mistake that so many of us made during the past four years instead of educating the SPPF supporters we villified them. If SNP is going to win the election then they will have to get 5% of the SPPF supporters. People who are most like to vote for Mr Boulle and Mr Volcere would be some frustrated SPPF supporters this is good for democracy because people who were thinkimg of staying at home might think that Mr Boulle and Mr Volcere appeal to them. Remember Mr Boulle may be not that popular at the moment but he is the most intelligent of all the candidate and he might emerge stronger in that election and may surprise a lot of you focks.Remember the marketting strategy in Seychelles is mostly by mouth. SPPF supporters might not be intersted in manifesto but they might listen to what other people say. At least this is perphaps the only democratic right that we have in that false democracy. Let people choose the leader that answers their aspiration. A vote for Mr Boulle is also a vote for Seychelles because he has conducted himself in a very dignified way during this campaign. Those who were in hibernation for for four years on their fat salary were they thinking of Seychelles or only themselves. Give us a break let people vote freely because all seychelloises have a god given brain. You vote for SNP because Wavel is the candidate that appeal to you. Stop behaving as a dictator we are not your kids to tell us what to do. VOTE FOR INTELLIGENCE VOTE MR BOULLE

Anonymous said...

By all means exercise your democratic right (we have precious few of those in this country) and vote for the candidate of our own choice. But it is no means dictatorship (we use these terms too loosely sometimes) to point out the error of your ways. A vote for Boulle or Volcere may well be a vote for PL. That vote will not bring us more freedom.

To ensure that PL has no excuse to hang on to power after a defeat, we need a clear resounding win for Wavel Ramkalawan of 51% or more. Anything less will allow PL to look for excuses to stay.

The worse thing that can happen in 2011 is for 50%plus of the votes to be split 3 ways among opposition candidates. PL will fight dirty and illegal to win the second round.

For those to whom Ramkalwan is their second choice after either Boulle or Volcere, I think they should grasp the nettle and vote Ramkalwan in the first round. There are too many risks with a second round where PL may get a majority. If you don't want a PL government for the next 5 years, the only way to make sure your vote gets that is to vote for Ramkalwan .

To the SNP Apologists:

And what will happen to Wavel and company, they will go back to sitting in the assembly doing f*** all and enjoy their fat salary, write a few articles in Regar until a few months before the next elections they start mobilising and start making some noises.

I wish the SNP apologists would stop confusing the voters. If they really want change, they are doing a disservice to Seychelles, by making untrue statements.

The SNP leadership through this blog, flyers, FB and TV Spots was intentionally using deceitful manoeuvres to confuse the electorate by telling voters that a vote for Boulle and Volcere is a vote for LEPEP. This is called back-stabber because Boulle never said bad things about the SNP.

Is Wavel telling us that on his own he can win more than 50% of the votes! If he really believes that, then he must be living in Fantasyland; the second possibility may be that he wants to prevent any other opposition to gain support which would challenge his position, so that his status remains secure.

If he and the SNP leadership are willing to be so deceitful for them to win the elections, we should ask ourselves the question, can they be trusted with a mandate if elected, without fear that they will deceive us then if it is convenient for them.

Wavel cannot unite the opposition because he missed this opportunity a long time ago. He has to face the fact that he has lost a lot of support which is why the opposition must now use the election process available to them WISELY, (ie 1st and 2nd round stages) to beat Michel.

Philippe Boulle will get my vote!!

Boulle's idea of a government of national unity is half-baked. It is such a non-runner that Michel has not even bothered to counter it by promising to bring in non PL people in his government, to stop PL supporters voting for Boulle. How will he get legislation through National Assembly, for example, without support of the parties in the NA? Unless he sets up a party to fight NA elections ... ...

Anonymous said...

Reference to the writer, four posts up, On the contrary I would say vote Boulle in the first round because there is no way Wavel could ever get a majority against Michel in the first round. Boulle is the one who has attracted most of the Lepep supporters so that the only way to win against Lepep is to ensure that Boulle is the one in the second round. If it is Wavel then you can bet your bottom dollar that those Lepep supporters who had defected to the opposition will run back to Lepep and we will lose to Lepep......

Anonymous said...

Totally agree that Boulle is the wise man to take us out of this mess and clean up this society that is degrading by the day.
He has always been a clean mean and has a manifesto which will truely put Seychelles back on the right path.

BOULLE gets my vote. And I also think that he will surprise a lot of people. Albert Rene once said, sa bann nwar zamen pou vot pou en nwar. Colonial mentality still engrained in us?

But whatever the case, Boulle is a Seychellois and will do the best for all Seychelles!! As we havhe suffered enough!!

Anonymous said...

There is always the risk that support for Boulle and Volcere will come from SNP, not from disaffected PL supporters. It means the concept of a united opposition is irrelevant and will not attract more votes. A weakened SNP will bring us not just 5 more years for PL, but 10 or 15. So think about that before flirting with Boulle or Volcere on 21 May. Michel will think he no longer has to make concessions, e.g appointing judges that may not support PL. Boulle won't see the return of an independent judiciary in his lifetime.

Anonymous said...

This is pathetic reasoning! Can anybody read a logic in that or are you just trying to confuse everyone and take voters for fools?

Anonymous said...

What is confusing about saying a vote for Boulle is a vote for Parti Lepep ?

What is confusing about saying "Vote Boulle and Get Michel" ?

Anonymous said...

Give us a break pathetic SNP Seychelles politic is not about LEPEP and SNP. If PARTI DEMOCRATIK thought in that way 15 years ago SNP would not have been in existent. Let me remind you that it was Wavel who was courting James Michel at state house not Mr Boulle. Therefore a vote for Wavel is worse than a vote for Boulle.Let our democracy grow and allow people with intelligence and know how to participate in the politic of our country. We do not want a monarchical state.James Michel probably was referring to Dereck Savy and David Pierre when he was reffering to bring non lepep in his government.

Anonymous said...

How will a vote for Boulle give us an independent judiciary if Michel is still there on 22 May ? No insults, please.

Anonymous said...

Likewise, how will a vote for Wavel achieve anything if Michel is still in power on 22nd May???

Anonymous said...

I thought Boulle supporters were the clever ones. Most people agree that only Ramkalawan has a chance of defeating Michel.

In 2006, Ramkalawan needed an extra 2500 votes to win.

Boulle needed an extra 30,000 votes on top of the 314 that he got. Can Boulle do it ? No, he can't. He has to assume that voters will leave both SNP and PL in droves, and DP does not get a single vote with even Ralph Volcere voting for Boulle.. It is a hopeless case.

A vote for Boulle is a WASTED VOTE. But it is your democratic right to waste your vote and spend the next 5 years complaining.

I’d like to reply to “half-baked” 9 posts above;

A Government of National Unity aims to have within its cabinet, members of all parties in terms of which policies passed at the level of the cabinet should find favour with the members of the National Assembly who were elected on the same party political platform as their party members in Cabinet.

Furthermore it is very important that within the context of resolving current problems in Seychelles, we do not need laws for example to remove corruption, remove politics from government, establish an independent and credible judiciary, improve the health system, solve the water problem, redress our educational system, reduce the expatriate workforce amongst others all of which are directly within the administrative powers of a government and has deteriorated through mismanagement by government and abusive use of its powers.

Also bear in mind a Government of National Unity would come to power on the basis of the acceptance, by a majority of the population, of its Manifesto, as a result of which National Assembly members who represent the electorate would in the main support the redressing of issues which would be in the interest of the whole population as envisaged in the Manifesto. In any event a Government of National Unity would be in a far better position to govern the country, than if the SNP were to go in government with a minority in the assembly and a hostile majority which would make it almost impossible to rule.

Anonymous said...

To Clever One - on what basis are you assuming that SNP supporters and lepep supporters have not moved in droves? Furthermore you keep running away from the point that seem to trouble you, that every vote for an opposition is a vote cast against Michel to bring him below 50%. And then let the best opposition candidate win against Michel in the second round. Boulle can do that maybe better than any of the other candidates by rallying most of the oppositon supporters and the Lepep supporters who have defected, who would in the majority support Boulle.

Anonymous said...

Have you considered how you will get the ministers approved by the National Assembly, if you do not have majority support in the National Assembly ?

The president can dissolve the NA. But he will still need majority support from parties or independent MNAs in the National Assembly after fresh elections.

It will be the era of horse trading, not national government. The "national government" will be dictated by those with power in the National Assembly.

Anonymous said...

Oh and just a gentle reminder SNP's results were not theirs alone but a combination of DP and them. Remember Wavel wearing Papa Labarb's hat holding hands on the day of the final rally!! Sorry to burst your bubble but today it's a whole new ballgame.....

Anonymous said...

DP did not participate in the 2001 presidential elections and Mancham effectively told his supporters to vote for SPPF. It took part in the 2002 NA elections and polled 1605. Social Democratic Alliance polled 16 votes. You have to make a great leap of faith to say that ex-DP supporters will return to the "berkay" in 2011 when the call to do so before fell on deaf ears. The people know which party can beat PL and will vote for that party-- that's the most important thing. No WASTED vote.

Anonymous said...

The best national unity government would be an SNP-led government with some non-SNP ministers who are prepared to implement SNP's programme for government. That is achievable and workable. Boulle's idea is unworkable. Apart from the way ministers are appointed by the president (for approval by the National Assembly), what differences are there between Boulle's and SNP's programme for government ? None, I think.

Anonymous said...

To horse trading-

Have YOU considered the mission impossible of how the SNP will get its cabinet approved by a hostile majority in the National Assembly. It should surely be evident to you that it will be easier for a Government of National Unity to get its ministers approved by virtue of its composition, by the National Assembly and for reasons which have been stated above.

With regard to your second paragraph this applies to every president in view of our Constitutional system which has an executive president elected directly and who does not emanate from National Assembly as in a parliamentary system.

It will not be the era of horse trading as you put it, but rather an era of enhanced democracy and national unity where a president by virtue of his mandate has a free hand to invite members of all parties into his cabinet and not be in a position to dictate to a subservient National Assembly as in the present case where the National Assembly is ready to condone all abuses of government because of their inter-dependence for sheer survival of the two, leading to almost a dictatorial system.

Anonymous said...

Why are you all bothering to explain to these SNP apologists the realities of politics when their logic and understanding is as bad as that of Lepep!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Phew!! Finally SNP has accepted that the best government for Seychelles is a Government of National Unity.

It only remains for them to admit the obvious that the best person to form and lead such a Government is the candidate who campaigned on such a platform and receives a mandate from the people to form such a government.!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Boulle's concept of national unity government does not stand up to close scrutiny.

An incoming SNP government would need to dissolve the NA and seek an SNP majority.

What will an incoming Boulle government do ? How does it plan to get a majority in NA to support the government ? Keep the current NA -- you are at the mercy of PL. Dissolve the NA -- then what ? How will Boulle participate in the NA elections ? Which party ? Are we not back to party politics ? Independent candidates ? Can they be relied upon to support the "national unity government" ? Too many questions remain unanswered for 21 May because the concept has not been subjected to close scrutiny.

Anonymous said...

You seem lost in your argument in your frenzied search for unanswered questions in Boulle's proposal, which I believe you will find answers for above. But you remain oblivious to the most obvious unanswered question which is - what will happen to SNP if it dissolves the NA and after new elections still finds itself in a minority with a hostile majority....... A lost cause indeed.!!

The hoity-toity attitude of the clever clogs in Boulle's camp is not helping to clarify how their Delphic concept of national unity government will work.

I don't see anyone being hoity toity here. I just see someone repeating the same questions with a view to try and corner someone. When he does not get that satisfaction he tries to be deriding. Reply to Logic-

The logic of a boyoctt rests in the moral authority of unity in rank and file of the opposition.

This allows us to call the elections not credible, nor free or fair. International Observers is have no choice but to declare elections aSHAM. There is overwhelming evidence of that already, but an opposition that plays along, in a rigged process, also will lose along at the end of the process.

But I can see voting is under way, and one person suggested I call every one out to vote for green, yellow or blue.

That is ridiculous and sounds a little like the stance the church has taken ambivilous to our political realities and could careless as many church leasders are not even Seychellois, but they call themselves Seychellois!

We are fighting for Freedom and Democracy, not our place at the dining table of the PL.

If you are fighting for a place at the dingin table, David Pierre and St. Ange have trumped you all that take this line of thinking.

Address by President James Alix Michel on the occasion of his inauguration, May 24, 2011. The president said the following:

"We have arrived at the summit of the mountain that we started climbing seven years ago. Our paths were filled with challenges.

Some people had given up hope. Many joined us along the road. Many gave a helping hand to the weaker ones, and inspired others to continue. The majority of people held firm despite all the challenges.

And as a people, in unity, we closed ranks and overcame the most difficult moments along the way.
But we have also celebrated our successes which have made the Seychellois nation proud.

Today we stand proudly at the summit, and we see a New Seychelles. It is a defining moment in our history and will determine our future".

Question that begs an answer.

If we are at the summit one would assume we are not going any higher, we are not going to get any better..this is it! If the new seychelles he is talking about is what we see, god bless us all!

Is this it or am I/we missing something?
