THE AIR SEYCHELLES / MAURITIUS CONNECTION
Humongous bills left unpaid for more than 4 months
Stop the bleeding before it is too late!
Air Seychelles CEO Bissessur and Chairman David Savy
Our national carrier seems to be hitting a lot of turbulence these days... As its close connection with the Mauritians is being put under the microscope, we are discovering all the deals that have been made with a UK travel company. There is no doubt that the connections this company has with the management of Air Seychelles, namely the Mauritian CEO, Rajiv Bissessur, has given them a ‘golden contract’ to exploit the UK / Mauritius route. And to make matters worse, they are now shortchanging Air Seychelles and allowed to get away with it!
Sunset Faraway Holidays is a UK based company owned by Mauritians Harvin & Hamish Kumaya. Through their close affiliation with their fellowman, the Mauritian Rajiv, they have been given the exclusive rights to market cheap tickets to Mauritius on Air Seychelles. These bargain tickets are sold under ‘Sunset Flight Club’ with its website boasting:

“The ‘Sunset Flight Club’ offers the cheapest air tickets to Mauritius (and other destinations) We have an exclusive deal with Air Seychelles where we can offer flight only prices from £199 + tax”.
Our Flights Consolidation Department offers low price Flight Only options with many of the leading carriers to include Air France, Continental, Emirates, Air Seychelles, Air Mauritius, South African, Jet Airways, KLM, Sri Lankan Airlines, Thai Airways, Virgin Atlantic. We also have 60 seats per departure with Air Seychelles to Mauritius where prices can start from as low as £150 per person (excluding tax To Mauritius), This is exclusive to Sunset Travel Ltd and LuxuryHolidaysDirect.com utilizes all such deals to ensure our ‘PRICE WATCH PROMISE, WHERE WE GUARANTEE TO BEAT ANY OTHER GENUINE QUOTE FOR THE SAME HOLIDAY’.

It is interesting to note that the company also sells tickets from other airlines to Mauritius, namely Air Mauritius, Emirates and British Airways. The fares published for Air Seychelles is on average £100–200 cheaper than other carriers. They are currently running a promotion for the July period at £425 (including taxes) whilst travel on Emirates (which is via Dubai) is at £568.

NOW – the straw that breaks the camel’s back is the fact that Sunset Flight Club has run up a bill for more than four months that effectively affects the finances of our national carrier. In these dire economic times where airlines have their eyes fixed on their bottom lines and the regulating bodies imposing stricter regulations to help this financially strapped industry, the ‘genius’ management at Air Seychelles conveniently turns a blind eye at these shenanigans.

We have received confirmation that the payments by Sunset Flight Club has been outstanding after a true Seychellois living in the UK overheard a conversation that the Mauritian Company was now making arrangements to settle their March invoices. They can even laugh at our incompetence. Air Seychelles ensures that Seychellois travelling on its airline pays ahead for any ticket issued, but the Mauritians can take four months to pay for their tickets taken. Today we are sure that the March Invoices from Sunset Flight Club is overdue. Seychelles was assured that this Mauritian Company pays ahead for its tickets on this special deal. This is just not so and CREDIT is offered to them.

We implore President James Michel, in his capacity as Minister of Tourism, to look into this serious matter that is making a total mockery of our beloved national airline. We call upon him to request for the revenue statement for Sunset Faraway group so that he can consult for himself what a farce this deal brokered by the Air Seychelles management is. The unpaid bills are totally unacceptable. The golden contract to flog cheap fares to ethnic Mauritians for less than half the price that a normal ticket to Seychelles costs is a flagrant slap in the face to our people and the government running the affairs of this country.

The million dollar question is – will James Michel allow David Savy to continue perpetrating all this tomfoolery upon us taxpayers who are being asked to sacrifice while he and his team of ‘dodos’ are fast tracking the bankruptcy of our national carrier Air Seychelles?

You are being judged by your actions Mr. President!

UNBELIEVABLE! Yes, David Savy can get away with anything as Papa Albert has said that he cannot be touched. Same for Prince Francis with his islands of one rupee and same goes for Fat brother Glenny who rules all the Seychelles islands and run illegal hotels and sell our islands to foreigners. The people of Seychelles are being screwed by Rene, Michel, Savys, Adam and so on. Michel is as big a DODO as the rest so he cannot do anything. he took on Tourism so that he can fly around in first class to screw his few concubines overseas so that his wife wont find out. Disgusting the whole lot. Seselwa, leve vote e bez sa ban liki deor.

Yepp! As long as Rene is still alive the Savy boys will remain immune and get away with even murder. Let's see if the IMF's microscope discovers anything in the audit of Air Seychelles. Will be interesting to see what the turnout will be.

RULE OF LAW IN DEMOCRATIC SOCETY

The rule of law is defined as the activity of subjecting human behavior to the governance of RULES, rather than the arbitary decisions of RULERS.These rules should be general and abstract, known and certain, and apply equally to all individuals.

The core of the rule of law,"the basis of constitutional order" is an autonomous legal system.First and foremost it means the supremacy of law. Thus it means that nobody is above the law and the law is above everybody, including the government, its representatives and its institutions.

In addition to the principle of an autonomous legal order, some of the main principles composing the rule of law are:
a)THE PRINCIPLE OF PROPORTIONALITY: It requires that each measure intervening in fundamental rights has served a transparent and legitimate public good.

b)TRANSPARENCY and the obligation to state reasons of government decision-making bodies and the freedom of information.

c)THE SEPARATION OF POWER-principle,the checks and balances of state organs and the limitation of institutional power. The system of checks and balances begins by the separation through, legislative, executive and juridicial powers.

Within the legislative sphere, power is distributed between the component parts of Parliament (house of representatives and so on).

Within the executive, ministers, besides having a duty to govern in the interests of the whole nation,is obliged to work with public service. The impartiality of the public service acts as a brake upon, favoritism, corruption, nepotism, discontinuity and inefficiency to name a few.

With the judiciary, power is distributed amongst a hierarchy of courts in the context of juridicial independence.it is the guardian if the constitution and ensures that laws are administered fairly and objectively. It acts as a check on the abuse of the legislative and executive.

The system checks and balances also operates outside the constitution and law.Democracy, the electoral system, free expression and criticism the investigative media and the existences of independent institutions cumulatively operate as a check on those exercising both private and public power.

Rule of law is also important in building a harmonious society. In both developed and developing societies legal transparency and certainty are requirement for investments,a prerequisition for economic growth based on innovation and technology ensuring growing prosperity for the entire population. It is a prerequisition not only for a functioning market economy, but also social.

To conclude, the intellectual foundation of the rule of law is the dignity of every human being from which flows all other fundamental rights,i.e human and civil rights. They set the limits of state power, they quarantee the freedom of all citizens,These fundamental rights include, economical, political, social and cultural rights by which all government activities are being measured.

INTERACTION BETWEEN TOURISM AND ENVIRONMENT

While tourism provides considerable economic benefits for the country, its rapid and uncontrol expansion can be responsible for adverse environmental as well as socio-cultural impact.Natural resources depletion and environmental degradation associated with tourism activities pose severe problems to the country, favoured by tourists. The fact that most tourists choose to maintain their patterns of relatively high consumptions(and waste generation) levelsin the places they visit can be a particularly serious problem for the country, which lacks the sufficient or appropriate means for protecting its natural resources and ecosystems from the pressures of mass tourism. The two main areas of environmental impact of tourism are pressure on natural resources and damage to ecosystems.

PRESSURE ON NATURAL RESOURCES
In addition to pressure on the availability and prices of resources consumed by local residents-such as energy, food and basic raw materials-the main natural resources at risk from tourism development are land, freshwater and marine resources.Without careful land-use planning, for instance, rapid tourism development can intensify competition for land resources with other uses and lead to rising land prices and increased pressure to biuld on agricultural land and national reserves etc....Moreover,intensive tourism development can threaten natural landscapes notably through deforestation, loss of wetlands, and land erossion.tourism development in coastal areas is often a matter for increasing concern as it can lead to sand mining, beach erossion and other forms of land degradation.

Freshwater availability for household and other uses,is rapidly becoming one of the most critical natural resources issues in thecountry.Rapid expansion of the tourism industry which tends to be extremely water-intensive,can exacerbate this problem by placing considerable pressure on scarce water supply.water scarcity can pose a serious limitation to future tourism development due to the limited supplies of surface water and whose groundwater may be contaminated by saltwater intrusion.Over-consumption by many tourists facilities-notably large hotel resorts-can limit current supplies available to local populations, thus lead to serious shortage and prices rises.

DAMAGE TO ECOSYSTEMS
Besides the consumption of large amounts of natural resources, the tourism industry also generates considerable waste and pollution.Disposal liquid and solidwaste generated by the tourism industry is becoming a particular problem for the country because it lacks the capacity to treat these waste materials.Diposal of such untreated waste,in turn, contribute to reducing the avaibility of national resources, such as freshwater.

The delicate ecosystems of the country, togetherwith its increasing reliance on tourism as main toolof socio-economic development means that this environmental impact can be paticularly damaging since the success of the tourism sector often depends on the quality of its natural environment.

In the country coastal areas and other ecologically fragile places visited by tourists, there is an increasing concern that the negative impact of tourism on the natural environment can ultimately hurt the tourism industry itself. In other words, the negative impact of intensive tourism activities on the environmental quality of beaches, forests and other ecosystems compromises the viability of the tourism industry as a whole.

CONCLUSION
Tourism growth can be harnessed not only for the enjoyment of tourists themselves but, more importantly, for maximizing economic benefits and thus increasing the living standards of the community. At the same time, unless corrective measures are taken, increased tourism is bound to have negative environmental and socio-cultural impact on the community.
