The Seychelles Column - By Christopher Gill

Seychelles Communists Cloud of Failure Over Paradise

Sometimes I hate to say things because, they turn out to be true. I don’t know where this canning ability came from, but it has been with me most of my life, even when I was a child. I learned early on that I had to put it to use for good and not allow it to become a tool for evil.

Red There Is No Water !

For years I have written about the grave water problems in Seychelles. PUC has been under financed for years and even decades, three to be exact.

After the last elections in 2006, the SPPF Communists brought in French advisors from Suez Group, who were close friends of the late Michel Tretout, ex-ambassador from France, disgraced Fabrike, a shareholder in Casino hypermarket project to make assessments that local engineers had already made, and charged us Sr. 125 Million for a Two (2) year contract.
Michel Tretout

That money which was part of a greater scam, could have gone to replacing 50 year old rusting pipes that are responsible for the 85% leakage and loss of water being transferred from sources, to treatment plant to dam and consumer.

The 85% leakage for a public utility agency is poor performance and consequently, the PUC does not meet the 18% acceptable leakage rate to qualify for international financial assistance. That is why the water leaks and road breaking and repairing go on and on and on and we get less water every year. PL Communists ignored the water problem for decades. Today, we pay the price for this gross failure.

Red Where Are The Dams For Water?

The La Gogue Dam was built in the Mancham era, funded by the British, as was the Rochon Dam. Nothing has been done since to expand these dams or build new ones, and nothing has been done on Praslin to create a dam, though a natural dam exists. But the Communists use it to house a few terrapin turtles and some guppies, in case they ever need a voter. Smartest President in the world James Michel made the statement of they year last year when he quipped that "why build a dam when there is no rain water to put in it"!

Rochon Dam                                La Gogue Dam

Red Says Buildings Do Not Drink Water!

For years I have said that large hotel projects will not benefit Seychelles and we will risk losing her charm and unique beauty as the concrete jungles go up and adequate water supply is not captured and stocked.

Communists the world over, love to cut ribbons and set foundation stones. In Seychelles, they are not an exception. They cut every ribbon, lay every single foundation stone. It is as if they are the only ones that can do anything. They do this to divert the public’s attention to their real failures that affect us all.

James Michel - loves plaques and ribbons

While they build and push construction, we not only have gone bankrupt as a state, but now in 2011, the grand failures of these poorly conceptualized  projects  now glares over the most beautiful islands in the world, in great failure and great sacrifice to the natural beauty of Seychelles, something we always knew we had to protect and even our Constitution recognizes this inseparable obligation of the people to nature.

1.     Shangri La Hotel on Long Island has been at a near stand still for over Two (2) years now. On occasion a little macadam is moved from the depot area on the left side to the right side. No water provision has been made for this project. Bungalows are not roofed and cement block skeletons grace this island in the St. Anne Marine Park, and there is no water source on the island to support such a foul idea.

2.     Eden Island is plunking along, but is showing signs of desperation, as the extended dry season sent the landscaper to the yards of Providence Industrial next door, looking for water tanks that were never installed. This project is single handedly responsible for the drying up of La Gogue Dam to low levels more then any other residential hotel project. La Gogue was at 45% capacity yesterday. In Thirty (30) days La Gogue will drop to 12% if no rain fall is registered and IOT may close, Seybrew may stop making beer, but Eden Island will still continue building? PUC should have Eden Island source its own water with its own desalination plants and its own storage, but how will it do that, when it is in front of a marine park?

Eden Island

3.     The Raffles Resort blunder has shown its grand failure now. Since it has opened, few guests have turned up. Those that have turned up have registered their complaints on travel blogs. As much as 450 workers are fed Four (4) times a day and the hotel is reportedly losing $600,000.00 per month. Locals line up along the road at night to drink beer, play music and watch the guests take a dip in publicly displayed dipping pools, as they try in vain to enjoy their evenings at the ill conceived concrete jungle monstrosity in the heart of Praslin.

Raffles Hotel on Praslin - An abortion & ecological disaster on Praslin

It has been rumored that Prince Talal blames the marketing department for the folly. But no marketing effort will be able to retrieve this ill conceived hotel project that had green lights before designs were even presented to the Planning Authority. Another Communist basket case approval.

 Prince Talal

Praslin has struggled with water supply to accommodate the 450 -500 new workers, and demand drawn by Raffles. Yet Raffles has not contributed substantially to improving the water situation on Praslin.  It has all been a big free ride, so to speak. They have destroyed some water sources, other hotels used in the dry season, and tapped into rivers, without PUC prior approval.

Red The Barrels Are Everywhere!

As a direct consequence of PUC failure to deliver water effectively to Seychelles, blue, green, grey barrels are turning up every where, and anywhere, and ruining the natural beauty of the islands. The tanks have a look of desperation to them and send alarm bells out in the minds of visitors.

Water barrels anyone?

No water, but PUC trucks used for Party Lepep rally

The Communists actively encourage this practice, instead of coming up with proposals and tax rebates to place tanks under ground. State House itself will be graced with different color tanks in no time.

I visited a number of hotels this week, and found polyethylene pipes all over the place, as hoteliers battled to get secondary water sources. Seychelles has sufficient water supplies, we should never have been in this situation.

Red We Do Not Bathe !!

Countless families are going to sleep at night throughout Seychelles, without enough water to bathe. Some use bottles to bathe and keep up hygiene. Our children are reporting to hospital with flu and other related symptoms.
Only a dream in Seychelles

This is a signature failure of the SPPF PL Communists. The situation is not temporary as they will have us believe. It has been ongoing in parts of North Mahe for over One (1) year. In La Misere now, it is pushing Two (2) years, an area that always had water, but for the gross negligence of ASCON the contractor of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nayan.

Sheikh Khalifa to the rescue with 3 desalination plants so that Michel and the Sheikh can have a bath

Red Loves Desalination Plants

The Communists love desalination plants. In early 2000 decade, they bought a number of them before Rene retired and they were over invoiced. The technicians brought in said they would be costly to run and maintain. They were right. The existing desalination plants have been not functioning at 100% capacity, but perhaps 50% capacity or less, due to filter and pump maintenance issues.

At the run up to the Presidential Elections, sham elect President James Michel,  picked up the phone and called Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed al Nayan, autocrat ruler of UAE and asked for help with more desalination plants.

Sheikh Khalifa - Michel's best friend

Sheikh Khalifa, always the willing friend of Michel for obvious reasons, sent out Three (3) new plants being installed, to restore capacity of production to what the existing plants should produce if they were maintained properly. Sheikh Khalifa could have sent some pump parts and membrane filters by DHL , and it would have had the same effect in capacity for water production.

As this water crisis cuts into our lives, families will suffer greatly. The economy will suffer greatly, our image as a destination will suffer, and in the end, we will all collectively, pay the price for 34 years of failed policy to address the water demands of Seychelles.

Joel Morgan - The Minister responsible for water and also for the Delo Kaka disaster

Start digging for water under James Michel, the sham elect President!

Back to the stone age…… before the days of our proud Corsaire descendants who came to these shores, with the can do attitude  and created a community with our pirate ancestors  and slaves alike, from all shores and they all  said: “we will do what we must… to survive”!

How much cut and paste went into this article ?

Mr Morgan's description of his role comes across as a very successful business owner who is doing very well. Everything is exciting right now and he personally loves it, "very very stimulating.." With the help of his colleagues he's made "visible difference about development.."
"so I enjoy being in the midst of it today" he says.
"where we have overcome past problems and modernized our bus fleets, added a lot more vehicles, responded to demands for new scheduled, new routes, and now offer reliable and affordable public transport to our citizens and our visitors, too."
"We will start with the island of La Digue, which we intend to remodel into an island of pure sustainable and renewable energy use. There we are looking at wind energy, solar energy for lighting and hot water production, and going further by introducing and eventually only using hybrid or electric vehicles for transportation, replacing conventional diesel and petrol engines."
And that's just the start of the interview. By the time i get to the end i'll be wondering what the hell is all the fuss about. There's no inflation whatsoever, we can subsidise petrol for our buses, we don't have to raise bus fare due to hike in oil price, what inflation, our economy is one of the best in the world.

Brigitte said...

He's "added a lot more vehicles," on the road, yet he wants to talk about climate change.

Anonymous said...

It is clear Alain St Ange put him up to this. Does it take special skills to beg Khalifa and should they be proud of the fact that our development is due to begging, not what we have produced as a nation ?

This interview is also about begging James Michel to keep him as a minister, since he has said big changes are coming.

Jame Misel inn dir pou annan, i pann dir kiler.

The article on Morgan just hides and glosses over the real issues Miister of Home affairs is facing that affect tourism:

1. High per capita murder rate in the world;

2. Growing crime rate vs. Tourist;

3. growing crime rate vs. residents;

4. ineffective defunct Police Force, now backed by Irish mercenaries;

5. No water on the home front .

6. Unprecedented amount of Arson taking place in Seychelles over the last year and last 3 months.

These problems cannot be solved by a polarized society.

They can be solved when people come together.

But because Michel stole elections, I do not see the country coming together for much any time soon.

Except of course, the sell outs, as they cross over one by one and at times by the bundle as we saw yesterday in the National Assembly.

Quite a sad day for Seychelles.

I'm surprised that in its last meeting SHTA did not find it fit to bring STB CEO to order or ask for his replacement. In effect they're happy with everything. Why is it only now that they're talking about the endless construction of hotels, distribution of guest house licences to every Tom Dick or Harry?

Reply to SNP cry baby-

You along with "SNP Apologist" and "SNP Loser" and "Slick SNP Sell Out", have all made attacks on me personally.

I have not gone down that road, but instead, I have focused on the content of your ideas, which I have attacked and crushed over and over again. I have done so because those ideas you promote are defeatist and with them in play, you all collectively create a situation that the opposition in Seychelles will perpetually be No. 2 and forever remain an opposition.

The only people who are not cursing is SPPF PL. They love the division you have singlehandedly carved out for the opposition.

Study the vote carefully, it will show the opposition has not moved in % for 17 years. Whatever gains have been made when we were united, are being lost now.

SNP Apologist- accepted this name.

SNP Loser- Had no name, and I dubbed him that to ID him from his statement that if he does not go back to the Assembly, he has a lot to "lose".

"Slick SNP Sell Out"- told us he was going back on Tuesday irrespective of the Boycott called by Ramkalawan on SBC.

If the hat fits, wear it!

If you cannot take debate, don't get into it.

If you cannot take being referred to by nickname, use a real name, and we will target all our points with respect towards a human being.

That seems to be a tall order for SNP cohorts. I wonder why?

So far you are a bunch of "Anonymous" people that no one knows, so there is nothing to offend.

I find that pathetic indeed, especially in light that we pay SNP as taxpayers a lot of money and they pose as "Anonymous" here, and fake profiles like Gren -Wi, Beer Bottle, and Murbarak the Gorrilla on Facebook, Mon Fes Y Grate.

You really need to rethink your strategy.

So far you are losing for every Seychellois!

SFP we win everyday, because we think ahead, and think positive. We expose SPPF PL with joy, and only love for our country.

We do not need to be paid to do the job, we find money somewhere else.

Pp communists have failed the country and its people dito to SNP.
Should it be normal for any responsible governemnt to understand that as a population grows demands for water, electricity etc..would increase and must parallelly be improved? Those mafias do not get that ,they all busy embelling the people's wealth.

On hotels development;.Pp does not have a well-studied plan niether for the short term nor for the long term when it comes to our tourism dovelopment, their main concern is how to gain some dollars to keep the regime afloat.

Michel has failed he should desolve his incompetent government and call for the formation of unity governemnt.

To Brigette,
On wind turbin:it would be another destruction of the environment comparable to that at La mIsere.First these turbines reach a height of over 150 meters and its propeller over 70 mters in diameters which would mean that instead of seeing you would see steal pillars all around our coasts.Secondly ,having winds does not means the turbine would be operational at all times for Wind turbines can be operational only at specific wind forces.Thirdly we do not have wind all year round which means three quarter of the years those turbines would unoperational.Fourly one would probably need hundreds of such turbines to be able to produce enough electricity. All in all investing in wind turbines would be a failure and waste of tax payers money . Unless mounted kilometers at sea wind turbine should be rejected by the people it would further destroy their fragile environment.

Solar panels fixed on each house holds are what best for our country with sun light all year around,But i think Pp does not want to fix solar panel on individual houses becuase Pp and PUC do know how to collect money from users.

I disagree with Chris on his Seselwa rasin credo. However I fully support him on his assertion that SNP are sell outs. Thse jokers have not only failed us but they have also betrayed the trust and confidence we have placed in them. As I'm self-employed, I'm ok and will always be ok but what about the thousands of other people who have stuck to SNP and Wavel through thick and thin and have been victimised all a long? Wavel resigns with his fat pension. Where does this leave everyone else? These people are a joke and an embarassment to the opposition forces in this country. We've wasted enough time on them. Let's move on.

Wavel and SNP are back in the assembly. Swearing in a new member means that they are there for the long term. What has happened to their call to boycott? It looks like their pay cheque is more tempting and more important. And then they criticise and insult those who accepted Lepep's bribe to vote for Michel in the last election? What's the difference? One is legal and the other not quite but the end result is the same. Bon dye sov nou pei!!!!!

Reply to all wrong-

Last article, what you have "all wrong" is the inference that I am helping St. Ange in some type of conspiracy by publishing the Morgam article.

On the party level, SNP can remove him as a member since you are very particular about who is a member and who is not.

That is up to you.

The day St. Ange decides to abandon his support for SPPF PL, and recognize that the move he made is politically incorrect, Seychelles Freedom Party (SFP) will gladly accept his support and member ship if he chooses.

Unlike SNP, we in SFP believe to win, you need to give SPPF PL supporters a way out. You cannot cage them eternally in SPPFPL, they might stay there.

When they do, you lose elections, SNP.

SFP is a party for all Seychellois, and we cannot judge a man on a bad call only.

Everyone makes mistakes in life.

Part of being Christian is to point out the mistake to your brother, but accept him also, once he recognizes it is a mistake.

Sometimes it takes time, but you have to be patient if you are mature.

This is called the power of Pardon.
It is a gift from God. Because it is human nature to perpetually prosecute another, as SNP has been doing to me , without much success.

With Pardon, we all grow and mature.

Without it, we shrivel up and destroy our selves with anger and hate. You must hate no one, SNP.

Now, on the Tourism front, Michel has already sold Seychelles . The damage has already been done.

St. Ange is not in charge of SIB. St. Ange is in charge of Tourism marketing. For that, whatever his politics is, he does a good job so far.

Before you go kicking St. Ange about, I suggest you find a replacement first.

Additionally, you cannot under estimate the wieght and credibility Mr. Louis D'offay carries in this Industry.

Any decision in this Trade goes through Mr. D'offay first, and others second.

D'offay is not like your MNA's in the Assembly, that live off the people.

Mr. D'ffay is a known fighter, and he puts his money where his mouth it. He has fought for the Trade in the One Party State.

Let the Trade handle this crisis as it can. In this equation aswell, the IMF are calling many of the shots and PL and SHTA STB are helpless at times.

Example where we can all help is stopping Eden Island. But SNP is silent on this issue, because they have been funded by Eden.

All the other 5 star investments that formed part of the $2 Billion FDI of 2009-2010 will collapse faster then you can blink in the coming months.

Reports are coming in around the world, that we will be heading into a double dip recession. USA will be down for 10 more years. So Europe will be on her knees for 15 years, and Seychelles perhaps 20 years, with this situation at hand.

You people who divided the opposition need to do some serious soul searching. We have not been condemned to 5 years of failure, it will be 25 years, if you do not sort yourselves out.

The People of Seychelles must hold PL and SNP accountable.

A few comments:

- I think we need to be careful when we start segregating religions in our country with multi-denominations, as referred in the last comment

- Let us be productive and not always lambaste SNP, when the bigger target is PL. Let us be fair and professional in our approach

- We just completed an election, and we all know that there is another one coming soon and another one after that in 5 years. Let's be productive, plan and execute some action rather than always coming here to complain, moan, criticize and call each other names, instead of making some real progress as citizens of this country.

- Regarding the water supply, this is a failure by the govt. Simple. The power is in the people to have their voices heard

- To move forward, the opposition needs to educate the people, be supportive in their everyday life and go down to the grassroots

- I do not see any leader at this stage in our political development (PL or opposition for that matter) who deserve to lead our country

- We will not progress as a nation until educated and experienced individuals who have had a share of international exposure return, and party politics are pushed aside in business

Just a case of hard facts

To contribute or not to contribute? That is the question.

I get the impression that Ramkalawn and the present leaders of the SNP will prefer auto destruction rather than prepare the party for the future. Their position of late (over the years) have to say the least been suicidal.Even the choice of a new leader is serverly compromised as Ramkalawan goes off to UK to try and lure Radegonde. I thought the proper way was to have members choose the leader?

Anonymous said...

Just because you disagree with what they are doing, it does not mean it is "auto-destruction". It is just your opinion, not a fact. Are you a fortune-teller or some expert on auto-destruction ?

Has Ramkalawan told you he is going to the UK to talk to Radegone or is it just rumour-mongering ?

Wannabe leaders need to be endorsed by the executive committee first, then elected by the party conference. Traitors need not apply.

Personally I think Wavel should have stayed as leader to lead a boycott of the next national assembly elections. I am not convinced that there are many people around who will take the job now, without the title of leader of the opposition which comes with representation in the national assembly. In any case, if they take part SNP bigwigs will be fighting among themselves for one of 3 or 4 proportional seats only. Directly elected seats will be hard to come by under current conditions. A 25-0 victory will give PL an unstoppable momentum, as the opportunists will swarm to them. We'll see.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for your comments.

If you all new the truth, you would know that I have been advocating change and a movement within the SNP structure for quite some time.

I even met RAM once and wished him bast of luck for the elections. He told me we would win. I believed him. The way things went after that, left me and many others lost.

I do see them as a real opposition, but rather a group of individuals with sporadic thought, clouded by even more individualism , acted on a stage of farce.

The SNP needs some Spring cleaning, but I do not see any positive movement or plan of action, rather the same circular momentum and lack of cohesion.

Since it was suggested that I am monopolising the Truth, then I'll change my name to Mr. T.

By the way, St. Ange is not worthy of leading the marketing of our country. I do not see monetary results, which is the bottom line. Instead I see smoke and mirrors.

Let me know when we can start bringing some serious thought and action to the real issues of our country.

Mr. T
" I pity the fool"

There we go again, traitors appear to be the new theme of the SNP Leaders and apolologists.

Never mind the fact that the Ramkalawan never bothered to act what he preaches, never mind he lost the elections, it is the fault of the traitors (incidentally same SNP apologists were saying that the traitors did not harm the party and Ramkalawan were going to win the elections anyway without them)...

People spoke against Ramkalawan, is it not a worthy to distinguish between Political Party and Politicians.

Fact is that Ramkalawan is now the past, the sooner he gets out of the way (as he says he will) the better.

Anonymous said...

I reply to Mr. "T"-

I concur, St. Ange is not delivering on bottom line numbers.

He has delivered on arrivals only.

By allowing 300 Euro40.00 per night licenses out, he has cut the total nights spending of each arrival substantially.

By allowing Eden Island to be registered as self catering without a proper fight vs. Michel, he has capitulated the revenue as well from Eden Island apartments.

Most of the units are managed owned overseas, servicing overseas debt. So the recievables goes right back over seas, if they ever make it here.

Government has no significant accounting of the amount of business Eden Island does. Nor does that business correspond with the taxes Eden pays.

So I agree with you, 100%.

Potter does not know what she talks about most of the time. She cites diplomatic messages as proof that the elections were free and fair. As there has been no message from the Pope, Obama and Queen Elizabeth II, are we to assume that they do not believe the elections were free and fair ? In fact the majority of heads of state have not sent a message of congratulation. Sarkozy and the Commonwealth's message were critical of the election process, as they were based on election observer reports.

The point is that some countries send messages for diplomatic reasons and some don't.

James Michel spends most of his time sending diplomatic messages of congratulation, hoping he will get one in return too.

As for buying vote, the money left over on La Digue R400,000 was stolen the day after the election.

James Michel knows that his legitimacy is in doubt. This time the electoral process has been questioned by outsiders, especially Western governments keen to bring democracy to Libya. They can hardly been seen turning the usual blind to the farcical elections in Seychelles.

Michel now wants to be seen making changes, so that he claim democracy is making progress in Seychelles. For 15 years, they said one man was enough to run the elections. He is prepared to have 3, provided he controls two of them and appoints the chairman.

I am not sure what will happen to the Electoral Commission if the opposition refuse to appoint 1 person.

There have you ever seen a democractic reform undertake by a dictatorship? Can you give me one example in world history?Pp wants to do the reforms that would fit itself and ensure that even the after refroms, it would not allow the removal of the regime.Do not forget that PP came to power by the use of force,it means that it has never beleive in democracy but communsim, and under communsim rule democracy is foregn to them in fact just do not exist.

PART I

Gill, congratulations on a great article once again. I don't always agree with you, but you show sheer determination and courage my Seselwa brother. If we all had cojones like you, we would be very far.

Well, its the Joker here for a bout of comedy relief. Tonight there is comedy night by the way and you should all attend the show for a good laugh.

Just wanted to make a point that I do not believe Marc Hoareau or Sylvestre Radegonde will want to take over from Ramkalawan. The mess left behind will be hard to clean up and I cannot see anyone stepping in to fill this post. Hoareau is a good business man and Radegonde is not a bad chap, but me thinks it would be easier to form a new party which will have its own agenda and style of leadership.

Anyone getting into politics today will know that the cards are stacked against them and that even if an Electoral Commission is appointed, it will still have more members leaning to the red party. So what will change? Will the voter registry be open all year long and cleaned up of dead people and illegal aliens let alone underage teenagers? Will overseas Seychellois voters finally get their right to vote? Will Lepep party stop using stolen money and state assets to bribe voters? Will the ballot papers be printed locally? Will voting take place in one day instead of three days so that Red Party has time to unstuff and restuff ballot papers into the boxes and reseal those boxes with the same tags provided by our good party man Gappy the stooge?

Come on, I do not think that there will be any significant changes done via James Michel's upcoming electoral reforms. Why change rules that are in their favour? So just mouth off, tinker here and there, and tell the world what a great President he is as he has listened to le pep and he believes in democracy. Yeah yeah, really.

So let us stop kidding ourselves. SNP should walk out once and for all and resign from the Assembly, and call for a boycott against Party Lepep and all that they stand for. Let them elect 25 members to the Assembly and make fools out of themselves. At least big fat Herminie won't have to throw anyone out and Potter can vent her female "I need a f%^k so badly" frustrations on her own red colleagues whilst the other members fall asleep at the desk with earplugs to drown away Potter's shrills. The assembly would remind us all of the birthday party that we have not been invited to, but the kid brings us a small piece of cake at school on Monday.

PART II

Who cares what laws they pass anyway as there is no one to implement or police those laws and the Judiciary is not about to become any better with that P.O.N.G.S. Govinden as Attorney General. For the ignoramus, PONGS is the comical and SMS version of "Piece Of No Good Shit".

Ah. let the country run amok, let the drug lords take over as they have in Mexico, and let the Arabs destroy our mountain tops and build large hotels on all our beaches.

Let the Savy brothers sell all our islands or take it for themselves, and let them run Air Seychelles forever or let it run into the ground.

Who cares if Guy Adam and Afif screw the people with high fuel prices while they pretend that we are drilling for black gold?

Let the Spanish and French harvest all our blue gold tunas out of our ocean while James Michel marries his new sweetheart Bastienne and gives her a new BMW gift from the Arabs.

Let the Viagra popping Prez Michel enjoy the Abu Dhabi Formula One races and his last 5 years in the one-party Government. My God, after the coup detat of 1977, the man has really worked his way up.

Leave Albert Rene on his down-under Aussie mango farm to enjoy his stolen millions and his last few years on earth as they are getting shorter and shorter, just like his heavy breathing.

Let Mukesh enjoy his stolen millions at his tea plantation, and let him enjoy the bad service of Intelvision while he counts his millions on his computer screen. Do not worry Mookie, you can't take it with you so maybe Anil and your wife can enjoy the rest of it when you are gone.

Meanwhile, us mere mortal citizens will enjoy our drink of delo kaka and delo desalination, and soon we will all be at Beau Vallon in the evening just to wash our gren and toutoun in salt water. Our once bikini-clad lovely Seselwa girls will soon be clothe in a burka and might even be learning how to make human suicide bombs. Let us hope they don't go off with a bang on National Day.

Ah, post is simply too long, so better shut up and get ready to enjoy the comedy show tonight.

Enjoy the weekend everyone and you know what, enjoy yourself while Rene, Michel, Mukesh, Potter, Herminie and the rest of the Red Gang worry about their stolen millions and their sad state of mental being.

Guys, on the flight to London yesterday was Marie-Louise Potter as well. Does the earlier blogger mean that they are both making their way to Radegonde? If Wavel is getting him to ne Leader of SNP what is Marie-louise's offer???

Anonymous said...

It seems that rumour-mongoring is our favourite past-time. Can't Ramkalawan travel without people making ridiculous assumptions? Last time he went to London was to collect money from the Lib Dems. Now it's supposedly to give Sylvestre Radegonde the leadership of SNP. Where is it written that SNP is Ramkalawan's to give? Who said that Radegonde, who has a very good job with DHL UK wants to return to Seychelles, much less be leader of SNP? Get real guys. There are more important things for us to focus on. Let's do that. The PARTY - NOT RAMKALAWAN - will decide on their new leader.

Anonymous said...

These last two previous comments are interesting. Rumours (again!!!) have it that Ramka had approached both Radegone and St ange to be his vp. Not sure why St ange refused but I understand that Radegone told Ramka that he was not interested in the position and not interested to return to seychelles. As i hear that he's put his house here on sale, this may be true. His belgium wife was not happy here anyways. He's told friends that he's happy where he is in Oxford and is not planning on coming back. These may just be more rumours but much as I think someone like him may be able to help us rebuild the party even if not as leader, I don't think it will happen.

Anonymous said...

Who is getting their knickers in a twist over Radegonde? Who said that the guy wants to join politics? Can we get real and address the real problem here and let radegonde get on with his comfortable life overseas?

What a joke? University of Seychelles offering a course in contemporary democracy in Seychelles. After 34 years what democracy was there in the Seychelles. The only democracy in Seychelles is the communist system. Please Dr Rolf Payet give us a break if you want to elevate Michel as your god please do so in an honest way. We know you are ambitious but stop making a mockery of yourself like our legend Soungoula. If such University is offering such a non-sensical course instead of running courses which will challenge the minds of intelligence of young Seychelloise. I am afraid that so call University of Seychelles will be another instrument for indoctrination which will take us into bronze age. Those in JJ spirit get ready to enroll in Seychelles new form of democracy which involve rigging election, persecution of opposition supporters, raping all the so call democratic institutions and bankrupting the Country and reducing the smallest nation on earth to mere beggars. What a joke? Please let us take education seriously let us build a nation with dignity.

Anonymous said...

The course should last no more than a few seconds. Indeed, it should be the shortest university course in the world, if they want to do justice to the subject.

It will be a good laugh as they talk about an independent judiciary, an independent attorney general and commissioner of police and, for the biggest laugh of all, an independent Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation.

Incidentally, after playing their party songs since the presidential election to celebrate their victory, SBC today played "annou viv koman frer" originally sang by Mickey Mancham but now sang by one of Parti Lepep's hatchet men at SBC for the national day. Nice of them to give up one day a year to call for unity, while they oppress us for the rest of the year.

It is clear that it is Michel who needs to be educated in democracy. He is the one who snuffed it out in 1977 while Mancham deserted his post to have fun in London.

Now Michel is blaming everybody but himself. The one-month course in democracy is an insult to these civil servants who will be forced to attend while Michel pretends he is bringing democracy to Seychelles. How can the talk about the need not to abuse power, when the abuses start at the top ?

Rolph Payet was clearly ill at ease explaining what this course was about. He knows the biggest obstacle to democracy in Seychelles is Parti Lepep itself. This course is like teaching someone to start talking at 18 years old.

Anonymous said...

What we need is a fair electoral process, so that the party that knows what democracy is about and is committed to it can implement it in the country.

Anonymous said...

PL's actions this week show they are not serious about electoral reforms to level the playing field. They are making cosmetic changes to appease those in the west who have made criticisms, however timid, of the manner Michel got his votes. Michel is not yet a democratically elected president, as everyone knows he got a massive helping hand from one-party state era institutions and blatant vote-buying. He is not the leader of a democratic country. Seychelles is still not free.

The opposition must use its most effective weapon to achieve changes -- a selective boycott of state institutions. This means it must resume the boycott of the national assembly, unless there is a clear, compelling and strategic reason to attend a specific session.

Have you guys noticed where James Michel has gone to get territory to make up his 50% of "protected territory"??? He's gone all these little sand banks and unknown and unhabited islands miles away from civilisation while he leaves chunks of the main islands to his arb friends and others to rape and build monstrocities on. The man really takes us for monkeys. But mind you, the "decisive victory" he was given last month convinces him that we're all morons.

Anonymous said...

James Michel should announce in his speech that, as from next year, we shall be readopting 29 June - our Independence Day- as our National Day. Continuing to celebrate a day that a new constitution was adopted does not make any sense as an occasion to unify and celebrate. The constitution had been raped several times anyway. And with the number of amendments it's gone through, it's not even worth the paper it's been printed on.

In SNP's/Wavel's search for a leader reminds me that our politicians never learn. Not that I would call Wavel a politician since he has benefited and enjoyed the role of politician by pure luck and not from being a wise leader. The taking over of the Democratic Party by Paul Chow comes to mind when the DP never managed to recover from the break up or break down of the party because of bad decisions, rivalry and selfishness. I am afraid that this is what is going to happen to SNP. Why does Wavel need to go in search of outsiders who really never took any risk to take over the party. If there was a crisis why did he not invite Philippe Boulle, Ralph Volcere to discuss how they felt about working together even under the umbrella of SNP. As a united front I am sure that we would have been able to move forward. In the meantime the SNP will be able to groom someone to take over the party. Or is that his pride will never let him want to see that one or another or a combination of all these people could bring the SNP out of this crisis and challenge Lepep!!

Anonymous said...

What "outsiders who never took any risk" is the last blogger referring to? Does he have any information that we don't? would he please share it with us? Is he also feeding on the rumours that Ramkalawan has gone overseas "in search of a leader"? Does SNP belong to Ramkalawan for him to be able to offer to anyone on a platter? Or is the blogger himself worried that he would see the party leadership "lo map"?

Anonymous said...

Ramkalawan can discuss as much as he wants with Volcere and Boulle and they can unite as much as they want. The fact still remains that collectively they've hit the ceiling and the only other way now is down. Results of the last election clearly showed that. Seychellois (rasin or fabrike)very clearly do not believe that they can trust these people to take them forward and they want to see new blood, new faces, fresh policies. If Ramkalawan feels he can bring in new faces good luck to him. Why he did not do that before the elections I don't know. With assembly elections around the corner, there is not much time to rally the troops to face Lepep once again.
Bon dye sov nou pei.

As an SNP member I say -Give St Ange the leadership.Let's see what he can do. there are different ways of skinning a cat. If he can bring about the democratic reforms through negotiations with Michel, so much the better. This is something that Wavel will never be able to do. But there are different styles of leadership. Who said that being in opposition should always be about open warfare with the ruling party? Let's grow up guys and look at the bigger picture. By the way, I still do not like the fact that St ange participated in Michel's ppb. But I think he can rebuild his credibility.

Anonymous said...

I'm starting to want to vomit.

Anonymous said...

We seem to be pointed in the right general direction.

However, before anything can happen, the momentum for change in opposition leadership must be well thought out.

Continuous change in electoral rules, the building up of resources and finance, and actually getting to know the electorate will also help.

If this does not happen, then we need to lower our expectations and be realistic.

But this is common knowledge.

What is important is that we wait and have something well planned, rather than rushing and jumping deeper into oblivion.

This man has got to be the biggest IDIOT Seychelles has ever seen. The more he speaks about unity and democracy, the more I want to vomit. Not a word that comes out of his mouth can be believed and he is nothing but a leader of people with small minds who cannot see beyond their noses.

Seychelles deserves better. Sadly, Ramkalawan was not the prophetic leader some made him out to be, and the masses followed the best of the worse two Soungoulas. Reply to Comment on Potter-

SPPF PL are weak, Autocrat Michel just projects strength to hide his weaknesses.
What Potter says, and the tone she adopts is a reaction to one thing: A weakening and divided opposition, the result of one man's effort.

If the opposition was united,no one would be calling for another opposition party to try their luck.

Ironically, Potter is not refering to MSR or Seychelles Freddom Party (SFP) .

She is referred to a new party bieng formed by Chadstone, a former State House staffer.

Jeanne D'arc is 100% spot on on the 5 star experiment, and Eden Island.

Having my own water problems, I have had to micro manage water to run my establishment.

Here are some basic figures to consider, which will hieghten the degree of failure of SPPF PL.

To wash 10 kg of laundry- 350 litres per load.

To suppy one couple with morning afternoon evening shower- 500Litres per day.

Eden Island will need 140,000 litres of storage to do one wash per unit.

Estimated, it will need 900,000 litres of water a day when completed, if not more, since the units have more then just single couple capacity.

That does not include the water for those little dipping pools every where.

We are heading into complete failure on water works.

Has any thought that IOG coincide with peak periods for Tourism? Where are we going to get water for everyone?

Certainly, Cabinet will lead us to water.

Sylvester Radegonde is an intellect, has charisma and conviction, he would wipe the floor with anyone in Le Pep, that is why SPPF forced Eden Island to sack him.

Anonymous said...

That sounded very credible at the time, especially immediately after the election when Radegonde openly supported SNP.

Since then we have seen how Eden Island has relied on PL for survival. Maybe Eden Island acted on their own because they knew they would not survive without PL government support.

Perhaps the rest of your analysis is equally faulty. Remember it is said that Radegonde played a key role to undermine the underground opposition in 1970s and then went on to serve SPPF with conviction for years and well into multi-party, until the cull of ambassadors. He will have his detractors within the opposition. I do not believe he left SPPF out of conviction. I believe he left because he could not move any further up the pecking order.

We got to view SBC YouTube 18/6/11 National Day. In the first instance with all the Military available in Sechelles Seychelles why they cannot get the SBC TV Tech to load a video properly - across the world school children of 10 - 12 years old have learnt/can do this properly.

We have listened to part of President JA Michel speech, we command him and his government for the progress, as Exile/refugee - we cannot understand his dog headedness, when in Morroco, right across North Africa the lenght - distance their goverments have moved to meet the people wish and they are still not happy - as a matured politicians from the COMMUNIST/COMECON era, the USSR and then China he fails to listen. Beside the blood running in his body.

He spell out his vision of this "New Sechelles/Seychelles", the summit it/they have reached - our question and demand when we talks about those success by what measure, manner and mechanism, benchmark - he speaks as if those in Sechelles/ Seychlles who support his government working the past 6 years are some super humans/beings living on a special planet. He refused to say/state and acknowledge the important role of the Sychelles communities across the world - with all the money, resource and now available academicians not diffcult to build statistics/collate them from the respective governments were there are Seychelles communities. What are his reasons.

He talks of eradicating corruption at all level of the Nation and this with all his goverment resources and capabilites - the biggest corruption Mr Preasident is to lie and disown the work and important contributions of the Seychellois communities across the world in building that Nation - as President and Head what example is he giving to the Civil Servants, the Police, te Army and the Schools, Teachers, the Churches Christian Communities - there are no Seychellois abroad, they have not helped to build that nation - This situation is what has brought North Africa, Gulf Region, the old China, the old USSR, the Old COMECON to what took place - those exiles, migrants communities who banded together - not NATO or the USA to get their Country to change. It was the exile/refugee from Sechelles Seychelles who compeled/forced President FA Rene to change the One Party System.

President Michel underline he is the Presdent of all Seychellois - how many Seychellois lives outside Seychelles, how many are exile/refugee and they are not allowed to vote/they are denied their voting rights, the Constution, the Judiciary, the Institutions, the People, the Government, the Media say, their comportment amount denial of their existance and any Rights - he has no legitimate rights to say he is their - our President. Had/were they allowed a vote, a say in the affair of Seychelle - he many not be in Offce and Sechelles Seychelles a complete different country and Nation.

In front of all the diplomacy - they are not mad, visitors/Tourists and our school children, their teachers, th Churches - the future male and female to run this nation - he is telling them blatant lies, dishonesty by not accounting for how Seychelles was build the past 20 years and can be build in the future. With all the Constitutinal protection - should a strong minded citizen with support decided to challenge him and start a Civil case in the Court - he will find himself in no position to reply/defend himself. The very strange situation which is prevailing among the populace - why nobody has taken that step.

We have waited, supported and taken part in what amounted to positive a peaceful nation building the past 20 years - with all the massive disparities, exclusion, favoritism, opression, intimidation, threaths, sleazes etc - how many days and weeks longer will this situation last.

Before the Summer in EU is Finish the politicians, the institutions will see and experience some strange developements, it is about accountability and benchmark - is Sychelles and President J A Michel on another Planet.

Where one of the earlier bloggers is wrong about Radegonde is that had he stayed and plodded on quietly, he would have been made a minister in James Michel's government today. He could not have been worse than Peter Sinon, Adam or Athanasius.Whether he would have stayed long enough to be able to prove himself is something else. He is known to be strong-headed and does not mince his words. This is what got him removed from STB in the first place. I personally do not think that he aspired to be a minister or to be higher up in the pecking order as the blogger said. In any case, the guy has moved on and is getting on with his life. Let's get on with ours and sort out our problems here. we need to determine where we should be going from here. At the moment the opposition is leaderless, rudderless and directionless.

Is the bloger at 5:04 implying that Radegone joined snp for a higher position? You believe this and you'll believe anything. clearly you do not know the man. He's never told the full story about Eden island.I do not know whether he was sacked or asked to resign. It's not important. He decided to go and live overseas. He's not a candidate for any position here. The last time I checked, he was not even a member of snp so I do not see how even if he wanted he could stand as a candidate for the post of leader. Party members would be totally right to go up in arms if he suddenly turned up to take the position. But we are wasting our time here. The guy is not interested, is not looking for anything. Let's stop getting our knickers in a twist. Let's focus on the issue at hand.Radegone did not put us in the shit that we are and I don't think he cares much about what is going on. You people with so many bright ideas, tell us how we should be planning the future. No, I do not want to hear about MSR or whatever "new" party some people want to create. time is running out. Assembly elections will be called soon. Probably even before the due date. What do we do?

Anonymous said...

People like Radegonde supported SPPF for a long time. They did put us in the shit we are in now. Many people will have a crisis of conscience giving him wholehearted backing. I remember at the time, after leaving Eden Island, he was quoted perhaps in LNSW as saying he had to leave the country because he has a family to look after. He did have an abrasive style while working for PL. I have seen memos he as a diplomat sent to the Minister for Foreign Affairs at the time of the restructuring of diplomatic posts. He was very rude to the then Minister in memo that went public. Not sure how he can keep the opposition together.

That last blogger important demand - "your Fathers, Mothers and those who did help you all send you to school not to be able to discern - you have ears."

For the past 35 years the way our ancestral mechanism, values have worked - how it has contributed to put man and woman in office/power and remove, change them in that Sechelles Seychelles. Including Sir James Mancham - the first nation President, This will stop when the sky become black and life stop on earth. How even President J A Michel came to Office. You will not listen - we are saying this because none of you know the debacle of Mr Radegon and President FA Rene, You do no know enough what went on at the last 2011 Presidential election, go on cook up something crazy the system will see/laugh at you - you do not have the capacity to manage it - it will turn your plan, prospect, you like the situation is in North Africa or a few other countries they judge they could/can reinvent. Where they all are and where this will end.

There are two good Facebook site Seychelles College and Regina Mundi Convent - where those of you interested can learn once again - even if all those who knew properly how it worked left us. No, Radegonde is not a member of SNP.Therefore he cannot stand as candidate to be leader.
As far as I know, Radegonde is not interested to be leader of SNP or leader of anything.
Yes, he was for many years member of SPPF.He was even chairman of Pointe Larue SPPF branch. How many SNP supporters are there today that are not former supporters of DP or SPUP/SPPF?
Does he speak his mind? You bet. I've had a few encounters with him and I know that he says things as they are, even to Ministers. I do not always agree with him, but I respect the man.
Having said all this, we are engaged in the debate of a non-issue. unless I'm wrong, the guy IS NOT A CANDIDATE to anything. Can we now move on and discuss more important things?

If we had an opposition, they would be telling Michel the following:
1. The opposition is not a wing of parti Lepep to be dictated on how it does its politics by the leader of parti lepep. The opposition is there to oppose and it'll carry out its role as it sees fit and within the confines of our constitution and laws.
2. We have no problem with foreigners. But we shall continue to speak about those who are in collusion with Michel and Lepep, who are grabbing our best pieces of land for a song, are meddling in our internal affairs by funding Lepep's political activities.
3. Come on Michel, stop threatening. Be a man for a change and act. Do what you've been threatening to do......

Something is very with the world of diplomacy and politic, the world Institutions.

Radegonde is not a non-issue. This proves how unaware you are of the real situation within your party (a reflection of why many things have gone wrong). Whether he succeeds or not is something elese and whether you will be told about it (except if Radegonde agrees) is also something else, but part of the reason Wavel travelled to UK is to try and get Radegonde to come back to take over the leadership of SNP.

SNP is letting the opposition down.

We must Boycott the National Assembly elections, to let Michel know, we want real freedoms in place in this "Democracy".

SNP for its part, needs to take meaningful steps to unite the opposition and come up with a singular platform.

Democracy is not about seats in the Assembly, when that is used just to give the PL communists credibility.

Send them back to the One Party State. Then they will work harder to get out of the hole.

A country cannot be run effectively with 1/2 the population alone.

Our Freedom is non-negotiable!

SNP must not confuse our Freedom with their salaries in the National Assembly!

Michel has adopted Rene's old style of threats and warnings. He does not realise that this is water off a duck's back as far as we are concerned.
The opposition however will never be effective if it does not adopt a united stance to challenge Lepep - a united and well defined strategy is what is needed. We have enough people on the ground to make that possible. Why are we still wasting time, while Michel tries to gain ground?????

SNP works in mysterious ways. Wasn't Radegonde a spokesperson of the SNP (for foreign affairs....remember when SNP came up with the idea of Spokesperson 2 years ago), how can one speak on behalf of the party without even being a member of the party?

How many people voted at SNP Conventions without being a member. I for one attended almost all Conventions of the SNP (except for the last one i was abroad)voted on resolutions and leaders. I know of many others in same situation.

Gervais Henrie was not a Member of the SNP until he was appointed as MNA by Ramkalawan.

Now i read from the SNP apologists that one must be a member to be Leader of the SNP or vote at Conventions.

It is this double standard & hypocrisy that got Ramkalawan/SNP to where it is now.

Vox is so right! Sadly the demise of the SNP will always be that, their double standards. That is under the leadership of the current leaders. This does not mean that there cannot be new and younger blood to come forward and eventually revitalise the party. However we cannot expect this to happen within the next 10 or even 5 years because new young leaders need to learn and acquire experience. In the meantime what happens? Does the SNP continue in transition for all this time. I am opposition but did not vote SNP at the last elections. However I found the united stance taken to boycott the elections to be a good decision and am surprised that the SNP has not found it wise to continue under this united front while reorganising their party. We have seen the panic in Lepep's camp (unless we are politically blind) and the effectiveness of this strategy yet for some reason we have decided not to pursue it. I am unable to come to any other conclusion except that selfishness and pride is at play here.

Really Vox, is this your over-active mind at work? I say again, RADEGONDE IS A NON-ISSUE.He won't be in your way if you want to contest the leadership as a non-member.
Now to move on, Christopher is right. The opposition forces should unite and adopt a common strategy to face Michel and parti lepep. SNP should go back to its initial position of boycotting the assembly until true political reforms are made. There should not be any compromise.

Wikipedia on Tanzania:

Tanzania is a one party dominant state with the Chama Cha Mapinduzi in power. Opposition parties are widely considered to have no real chance of gaining power, though the country remains peaceful.

CCM has won all elections, presidential and legislative, held both in Tanzania at state level and in Zanzibar at autonomous level under the multi-party system: 1995, 2000 and 2005.
In the elections for Zanzibar's presidency and House of Representatives, held on 30 October 2005, incumbent president and CCM candidate Amani Abeid Karume controversially won with 53.18% of the vote after massive vote rigging, while the party won 30 seats out of 50.The presidential seat was won by an opposition party candidate Seif Shariff Hamad but through underhand means, the heavily compromised electoral commission (ZEC) declared CCM's candidate, Amani Karume, the winner.

Michel has finally accepted that Seychelles is drowning in social problems. That's good but I thought it was a joke for him to ask what has happened to the fabric of our society. Who has been in power for the last 34 years? Was he trying to impress his guest of honour?

I agree with SNP apologist i.e SNP should go back to its initial position of boycotting the assembly until true political reforms are made. There should not be any compromise.

Sadly consistency is something which SNP has not had over time.

Reference being made to Question to Vox post: i think that question is best asked to SNP Leaders (ex leaders) like Pierre, Barra, St Ange, the Grandcourts, they are the ones who endorsed Michel.

I am not sure why SNP apologist is attributing the comments made towards Radegonde possible leadership to me, several posts have been made on this issue and by several other bloggers. My point was if Radegonde wants to be leader then the issue of his membership should not be an excuse, he has been acting in the name of SNP in the past. That is a fact.

Ramkalawan has said he is resigning as leader of the SNP. It is only natural that people speculate on a new leader. who says Radegonde is not himself gauging his popularity on this blog? I seem to sense from some quarters (especially from SNP apologist) resistance in discussing possible leaders. There is nothing more pressing that having somebody new take over SNP (or the head of the opposition), give new direction and sense of purpose. At present SNP is leaving 41% of the population in the lurch, whilst as indicated by SNP apologist Ramkalawan takes a holiday, Michel and PL continues their relentless quest to win the next election.

Maybe as suggested by C Gill, SNP should just close shop (they have already closed the REGAR)and stop the charade, to boycott or not to boycott.

Today, you look at Today in Seychelles and Seychelles Nation and you wish them a plague on both their houses. The only difference between the two today is that Today has just two (2) pictures of Michel on its front page while Seychelles Nation has the customary three (3).

If we were expecting today to be like the New York Times, The Guardian, The Independent or Le Monde, and cover with news from a different angle, we have been disappointed.

The paper behaves like a mini-me Nation too often. There is too much self-censorship and ingratiating itself with the ruling party. You can sense that whenever it covers the opposition, it does so carefully and gingerly, lest there is a backlash from the government.

Advertising profits before principles, if there were any principles to start with. Or is it all fear.

The reporting of 18 June celebrations in Today in Seychelles was too obsequious. It tells us nothing that we did not know when we got up this morning to get a paper.

Nothing controversial, nothing newsworthy, nothing to choose between Today and Seychelles Nation today.

What's the point of an independent newspaper, if it is not different from SBC television, SBC radio and Seychelles Nation ? Today, Today in Seychelles did not provide the alternative in news reporting that we were expecting.

Ramkalawan had to give them 2 scoops to justify appearing on the front page. Michel only has to deliver an insincere speech -- and even then by the time Today in Seychelles appears two days later the speech had been covered ad nauseam by the state media. And today still thought reporting the speech was newsworthy on Monday morning. Are they producing an illustrated history book or a newspaper ?

In fact Michel was talking about a country that no one could really recognise. Michel simply regurgitated his usual platitudes. And so did Today in Seychelles. Come of age ? Come again ?

The solution is not begging Michel is collect taxes onKhlalifa,Eden island and all those five star hotels not paying tqaxes, not paying duties on imports, and so donkey.Secondly some districts like Praslin should be able and allow to collect taxes themselves in order that tax payers money are reinvested in the districts it was collected - central govenrment would then be paid a percentage of the amount collected like in democractic countires such as Switzeralnd is the case,it would avoid the risk that the country bankrupt like under Michel. Bring back our u$2,5 billions, have control over Glenny(iDC)ADAM (Sepec) in order that Seychellois can enjoy their wealth being embelled by those crooks..Stop foereign exchange leakage by those foreign companies especially five star hotels,Eden Island etc.Increas taxes on five star hotels importing cheap foreigners workers to take Seychellois jobs.Develop our fishing industry by buying our own seiners and expliot our EZZ by ourselves, ditto to our oil reserves out being given to foreigners on dubious conditions not approved by any Seychellois.Ask Talal to pay for the environemnt and ecological destruction he had made of Praslin(RAFFLE).

But unfortunately, things are not looking very ideal, and Michel has exposed his sham elections to us and it is becoming highly apparent that he is an autocrat.

I personally would not lead a party in the Assembly, with the tpye of insults to people's intelligence the PL are dishing out.

They do not respect the SNP. That is dangerous, because the little glass ball we call DEMOCRACY is shattering under Michel's watch.

When it does, we will be officially back in the One Party state. Right now it is not official, but his National Day speech was arrogant enough to call it a One Party State gig.

The party is in the process of registration. We are not in any rush. 150 signatures was not enough for gappy, so now we are doing another 150. By the time we add up MSR, Dhanjee's, SFP singatures, before SFP gets registered we will have over 1000. But that is ok. We know the bar is set high for us then others.

Naturally if the playing field is levelled and all issues considered, we would participate in elections.

However, SNP Hoist, the what you and the rest of SNP leadership never seem to understand, is that in this world, circumstances change daily, and we must adopt to the change as it comes. Nothing remains static.

Perhaps this defect in your party train of thought is the rsult of relying on a priest for 20 years to think for you.To the religous, everything is cast before hand. Humans just function in between what God has cast.

I have called for a Boycott of National Assembly Elections until such time that the playing field is levelled, all things considered.

If SFP goes forward with elections, they will not do it with me .

We want our Freedom unconditionally!

Go take that back to your SNP nest, and figure out what you will do.

You may screw up a Boycott once, but you will not have the chance to do it twice for nothing but your salaries.

If you think we are empty barrels, keep on hitting us.

We have not mobilize yet, when we do, SNP will be off like a balloon that lost its strings that hold its air in place.

I fully support Chris on this one: SNP should be sticking to their word and boycott the assembly until elctoral reforms are in place. Can we trust them on this one? does not look like it.These guys are so inconsistent and then they wonder how they keep losing elections. But we also have to look beyond boycott. What do we do next, concretely and positively to move the opposition forward. There has been a lot of writing and ideas since 21 May. Isn't it time now to act?

Michel will very soon be calling assembly elections. We cannot count on SNP anymore. They are leading us nowhere. What we can do concretely is boycott the election en masse. Let Lepep go and vote for Lepep and elect themselves. Let them return to the assembly and discuss among themselves...Let James Michel run his "nouvo sesel" by himself. Let's show him and the world that we're not happy with the way things are and that we want no part in it.

So Mancham picks up another dubious and obscure peace award. This time from an organisation in the Philippines impressed by Mancham's participation in peace forums around the world. Hands up anyone who has heard about the Gusi Peace Prize ? I think that merits another visit to State House to be congratulated but I do not suppose Michel had heard of Gusi Peace Prize either.

The award clearly does not take into account his dirty politics at home, although the lying Seychelles Nation would have us believe the award is for statesmanship. Is
there no end to the lies and make-believe ?

I wonder how many times the GsM brigade have now unsuccessfully applied for the Nobel Peace Prize ?

Normally Glacis sur Mer bigs up these small awards by naming the previous recipients. This time not a dickybird, as no one in Seychelles would recognise any of the names. It is not that Glacis sur Mer does not know who they are. Their names are on Wikipedia where they got the information for their communique.

I cannot vote, but nevertheless I am very interested in what happens in my motherland. I follow all the news and I appreciate the comments made, though I do not subscribe to all. I feel sad sometimes because I find that on this blog there are more attacks on the opposition, than there are positive comments on how to move forward.
Boycott is fine and I fully support it. But more important is how to get a level playing field with fair conditions. Winning an election should always be the focus. But losing fairly and being allowed to play an positive and active role is also the task of an opposition in a country.
So what is Mr. Gill offering? So far I have not read any plans except the call to boycott. On the other hand I have seen concrete moves by the SNP even if they have been criticised. Going back to the Assembly to propose a motion on Electoral Reform was a positive move even though they were insulted and the motion was thrown out. Michel regurgitated what the SNP had said in his 18June speech and made his MNAs look like fools.
The SNP has made it clear that they will boycott until reforms are done and that they want everyone, including Boulle, Volcere n others, meaning the likes of Gill to be part of the process. Isn't that a way forward being proposed by the SNP?
Remember that the SNP is the real guardian of the Constitution in the National Assembly. Any amendment can only go through with their support. This is why they probably want amendments to the electoral laws first before the Constitutional amendment. Michel is not sincere and cannot be counted on to keep his word.
I will therefore ask all of you to support this position and to stop doing character assassination. Focus on the sole objective and let us give our country true democracy. The one party state has brought too much suffering for my family and I hate the cold. Help all Seychellois get back their rights. I count on you all intelligent people.
I will reveal my identity soon. Take what I have written as sincere and coming from a true Seychellois.

PL cannot amend the constitution on their own because they do not have the two-thirds majority. The speaker does not vote, except to exercise a casting vote. PL is one vote short of the required majority.

PL is also unlikely to get a 60% vote in a referendum, if they decide to bypass the national assembly. Although a good number of PL daft supporters will reject any attempts to democratise the country.

Therefore electoral reform needs the co-operation of SNP. Now is the time to RENEGOTIATE the democratic deal that we failed to get in 1993. No more compromises a la Mancham that have given PL a massive advantage.

That means that SNP must be in the National Assembly when it is voting on amending the constitution. It is unclear whether such amendments will be valid with PL votes only, but there is no doubt that any subsequent challenges in the courts will fail.

That is why I advocate a SELECTIVE boycott of the national assembly and state institutions. Chris may talk tough. But I have read somewhere where Joel Morgan says we are a "placid nation".

SNP is the guardian of their salary and pension.

They could give a rats hair over our constitution.

Time to wake up and realize what we are delaing with.
