The Time is NOW!
The talk of the town is, ‘will he or won’t he?’ Will Wavel Ramkalawan step down as leader of the opposition to make way for new blood? Or will James Michel announce early elections to try and catch everyone off guard and gamble on what he believes to be the crest of a wave that he is riding? The answer is blowing in the wind…

However, one thing is crystal clear. The SNP machine under the lame leadership of Ramkalawan is a spent force and has ground to a halt. He seems resigned to his noble task of unseating the Lepep government and therefore a change within the current crop in the opposition is BADLY NEEDED NOW! We cannot allow this government to continue perpetrating all these acts of ‘piracy’ with our country and stand by idly. We should not let them get away with it.

Seychellois have become second class citizens in this country and we are being invaded by modern day pirates with cases of dollars. James Michel has now sold our patrimony to Sheik Khalifa of UAE, Russian oligarchs and South African importing their 'apartheid policies into our country. His government (supposedly for the people and by the people) is committing its second act of treason. Social ills, corruption, malaise, lawlessness, prostitution and all the evils one can think of are upon us.

There is no doubt that we are today paying the dire consequences of a ‘revolution’ gone sour. The people of Seychelles are enduring the worst economic crisis of calamitous proportions. The ‘nouveau rich’ clique of the coup d’état perpetrators are getting richer and the poor are sliding into abject destitution. James Michel and his clique who are bent on a mission to ‘protez nou ban aki’ will ruthlessly cling on to power. Today we are living in fear in a ‘legitimized’ one party state with an arrogant government condemning the future of our country to economic foreign occupation. This financial colonization is evident in the dealings of James Michel & Co.

Survival of this SPPF / Lepep beast is founded on a divide and rule strategy. They do not have the country’s interests at heart and are masters at manipulating propaganda. This even extends to creating division in the opposition camp. Today, it is evident that they have annihilated the ‘main’ opposition threat by ‘silencing’ its ‘leader’ through various conspiracies. Michel & Co are now on the offensive to eliminate any dissenting voices who dare question this ‘red & green’ stalemate by branding them xenophobic, unpatriotic etc… As they cozy up to foreign patronage in their quest for political survival in this sea of economic & social uncertainty, both Michel and Ramkalawan have renounced the battle cry of ‘Sesel Pou Seselwa’. We are no more the masters of our own destiny it seems…

But the time is NOW! Seychellois will have to rise up to save our country from the shackles imposed by Michel in cahoots with Ramkalawan. Our country deserves better. Unity is our strength and we have a monumental task to rebuild this country for the future of our children. Let us throw confrontational partisan politics into the dustbin of history. If Wavel Ramkalawan is pig headed about uniting the opposition to eliminate the SPPF / Lepep scourge from our midst, then he will have to face the consequences and make way for a new vision. A vision that has the monumental task to unite a divided people for the common purpose of salvaging our beloved country from the wrath of a corrupt system that has bankrupted us and set us adrift…

People of Seychelles, we have a hard road ahead. Bold decisions have to be made. We will soon be called upon to salvage the ship of state that is in urgent need of repair and elect a captain that can steer it clear of these treacherous waters. We cannot afford further delusions. We cannot afford to have another round of a communist relic government turned capitalist that is solely interested in their own personal survival. We have lost our country to a new wave of foreign occupation where moral values and dignity are discarded for a few pieces of silver and gold.

Let us instill pride and eliminate fear from our people. Let us breathe new life into our country so that she can prosper and all its citizens can partake in this dream of a better tomorrow. And this new departure is (un)fortunately neither with the corrupt SPPF / Lepep nor with SNP who is too content with the trappings of sponsored subjugation.

SESEL POU SELEWA! Our children deserve better.

Mr gill , it is easy to criticise but you fail to come up with an alternative solution. The people of Seychelles want to hear names. They want to know these peoples credentials. People of Seychelles cannot vote for people they know nothing about and appear out of the blue. Trust is built over time not immediately therefore they need to make themselves and their position known for the people to decide

Anonymous said...

Yes, the people want to hear names. But also from Party Lepep and SNP. For now, we know that Party Lepep has some young people running for disctricts such as Galen Bresson for Belombre andothers. But what about SNP? Where is their shadow cabinet? WHo will run Finance, Central Bank, Tourism, Fisheries, Agriculture, Education and other ministries. Neither Lepep or SNP have given us names yet. Boulle is running independently so all he has to name is a vice-president candidate.

I don't think Gill is criticising. I think Gill is spelling the situation out for everyone to see so that the voters can decide.

I used to believe in SNP, but doay my view and that of many of my work colleagues are that Wavel and SNP are a spent force. I voted for them in the past 2 elections, but at the moment, I will not vote for anyone because I cannot see a credible candidate amongst Michel, Wavel and Boulle. If I was forced to vote however, I would vote for Boulle because he is the lesser of the evils.

But it is sad that we do not have 5 or 6 candidates running for president. It would be great to see a live TV debate with all the candidates present answering questions not from SBC but from a panel that would have been chosen by the candidates themselves. That would spell the beginning of democracy in our country. But I am sure that Michel will decline because he would be too scared to answer questions without his teleprompter at hand. But then, the other candidates could always debate amongst themselves if Michel declines to participate.

This country is doomed if we do not elect a credible candidate as president. Life for us Seychellois will remain the same unless a new leader comes to power with the intention of looking after the interest of all Seychellois, and not just the Lepep party members. Gill is just one dissenting voice amongst many, but at least he is vocal with his thoughts and ideas. Whether he runs or not is not important at this stage. It is up to the Seychellois people to cast their votes for a better future.

Why is everything written here Gill's work? Isn't it possible that someone else wrote the piece?

The above comments are so typically Seychellois where anyone who criticizes is automatically expected to mention names or pull the carriege whilst eveyrone else sits and enjoys the ride.

Gill has stuck out his neck for the case and a lot of you agree with him. But instead of joining the case and help to pull the load all you can say is "give us names and alternatives". What the hell do you think the guys has been doing the last years?

I reply early to not waste people's time.

First off, this is not my article, but a contributed article from another Seychellois.

Secondly, I have sent my article to STAR for loading and you will get my take on the week.

Thirdly, SNP are light skinned and cannot take any critic that is why they cannot grow as a party anymore. Unless there is change, they will implode. Sad but true.

Fourthly, the names of the replacements as I have said before, to others are irrelevant at this time.

The existing leadership just castigates them so they can stay on board, and waste our time as a people.

SNP leadership beyond the four (4) stooges 1. Ramkalawan, 2. Ferrari, 3. Mancienne, 4. B. Georges, can choose a new direction and new leadership for the party.

What is clear is that while this team of leaders have had a go at change, they have collectively not delivered and things look worse today then ever.

There group think method of operation is catastrophic upon the People of Seychelles after 17 years of a failed experiment.

We need new blood to move forawrd.

70% of Seychellois are under 30 years old.

These SNP men need to be man enough collectively to step aside and let others push for change.

I am one of those people, MSR is being borne out of a vacum of lack of political competence and vision that SNP created.

I find it difficult to understand why I can work with Radegonde, Grandcourt, Houreau, Souyave, and many others in SNP camp, but I or MSR cannot work with the leadership?

I can answer that, but it is not worthwhile at this point.

The leadership has to be scrapped. Face it.

After SNP has done that, it's real back bone, all the good people that supported it through the years, who have been betrayed through deals with foriegners by the current leadership, can find new leadership and a new unity of purpose in the opposition.

Good luck to you SNP, I know what you are all going through. I have been down this road before, it can get ugly, if not handled in a mature realistic manner.

But the point is SNP, handle it, ignore it, you will be in for a rough ride.

Don't blame me when things go bad,

I am in MSR, where we float the banner "Sesel Pou Seselwa".

I am not SNP, if I was, I would not have to work for a living, I would be on a life pension and earn Scr. 12 million over the next 40 years, for just breathing in and exhaling.

I would spend my spare time looking for tenders of luxury vehicles from embassies.

The above writer is 100% spot on in demanding the SNP's point of difference in the same way FAR asked them to name their Shadow Cabinet some 15 years ago with no avail so that the Seychellois Voters can see for themselves and make a concise decision. Come on Wavel, have you got what it takes in the year 2010?. Will your backer Parkar be the Shadow Minister for Finance?. Will you accept a Deek Head like Chris Gill as the Shadow Immigration Minister?. Regards TIKLO.

I do not mean to be particularly rude, but if you want to know the SNP shadow cabinet, just make good use of your finger.

The names of SNP spokespersons are on their website, just a few clicks of the mouse away.

But Albert Rene wanted to know who the ministers would be if SNP were to win. Not even SPPF or PL told us who their ministers would be. As for SPUP, there was no point telling us -- it was never ever going to win an election, so no one asked Rene to give us the names.

SNP should make a deal with Rene. He tells us how many people he has murdered and SNP tells him who the ministers will be.

This article is a rip off from a communist speech. Why does that not surprise us?

And to quote Bishop Gill: Fourthly, the names of the replacements as I have said before, to others are irrelevant at this time.

Possibly the most ludicrous undemocratic statement of all time!

Tell us at least, are they Freemasons?

Reply to Communist Speech Writer-

I did not write this article, someone else did.

Secondly, the article expresses sentiments, which is normal in Seychellois culture as it is normal to listen and exchange ideas.

Thirdly, I am not a communist, but a Nationalist. My perceptions of market economics tend to be right leaning, but I am smart enough to know given Seychelles micro state realities, that may not always work. We need to adjust ourselves as need be to that reality.

Reference to the four stooges of SNP, is simply to make a point: these four men are collectively responsible for failing to unite the opposition, and failing to deliver all these years. Their track record over the last 5 years speaks for itself. Because they protect each other, we are now finding out what carried on over the last 17 years. It is not a pretty sight, and many will feel betrayed by all four (4) men.

Hence, why I ask them to put the false pride aside, drop the self righteous approach to life and call for an opposition conference to chart a course forward for new leadership with their support.

I thank the writer of the article for expressing his sentiments. It takes pressure off of me.

Nationalism involves a strong identification of a group of individuals with a political entity defined in national terms, i.e. a nation. Often, it is the belief that an ethnic group has a right to statehood, or that citizenship in a state should be limited to one ethnic group, or that multinationality in a single state should necessarily comprise the right to express and exercise national identity even by minorities.

It can also include the belief that the state is of primary importance, or the belief that one state is naturally superior to all other states. It is also used to describe a movement to establish or protect a homeland (usually an autonomous state) for an ethnic group. In some cases the identification of a national culture is combined with a negative view of other races or cultures.

Conversely, nationalism might also be portrayed as collective identities towards imagined communities which are not naturally expressed in language, race or religion but rather socially constructed by the very individuals that belong to a given nation. Nationalism is sometimes reactionary, calling for a return to a national past, and sometimes for the expulsion of foreigners. Other forms of nationalism are revolutionary, calling for the establishment of an independent state as a homeland for an ethnic underclass.

Nationalism emphasizes collective identity - a 'people' must be autonomous, united, and express a single national culture.

National flags, national anthems, and other symbols of national identity are often considered sacred, as if they were religious rather than political symbols. Deep emotions are aroused. Gellner and Breuilly, in Nations and Nationalism, contrast nationalism and patriotism.

Ultra-nationalism often leads to conflict within a state, as well as between states, and in its extreme form leads to war, secession, or genocide.

Fascism is a form of authoritarian ultra-nationalism which promotes national revolution, national collectivism, a totalitarian state, and irredentism or expansionism to unify and allow the growth of a nation. Fascists often promote ethnic nationalism but have at times promoted cultural nationalism, including cultural assimilation of people outside a specific ethnic group. Fascism stresses the subservience of the individual to the state, and the need to absolute and unquestioned loyalty to a strong ruler.

[1]

History tells us that it is in the interest of civic democracy to defeat ultra nationalists, even with the use of force.

MSR is an ultra nationalist concept.

Reply to wikpedia on Nationalism.

MSR has is only raising the founding principle of the Republic of Seychelles, that was lost through 17 years of totalitarianism and dictatorship.

That principle is: "Sesel Pou Seselwa". It is the principle that my step father Peter Gill Sr. gave Albert Rene and shifted the course he took from seeking free association to Independence in the 1960's.

In the past, that meant sending all colonialist home. After the principle was recognized, they came back.

Today, it has taken on a new meaning. Seychellois remain masters of their coutnry as recognized under the UN Charter, and Seychellois must strive for a corruption free society, as hard as it may be, given our history.

There is nothing extreme about that. In fact, given the culture of corruption, it is very reasonable.

We are pro business, and pro investment. But on a levelled playing field, not an uneven one.

Some segments, priority must be given to our people to develop enterprise over foreign investments, because we do not need foreign investments in little cottages. We do not have enough arable land for that, while still preserving our environment and meeting infrastructure demands.

Foriegn investments need to be coupled and married to infrastructural investments. No free rides as has been the case with PL and SNP remained silent.

If you have a problem with that, go back to Wikipedia and research some more.

Instead of calling Mr Gill a nationalist who should be destroyed with the use of force. Nobody threaten those greedy politician for phewing their deception and lies on the nation television. Please have the decency in look into your back yard instead of removing irrevelant articles from wikipedia.

What is wrong with denouncing corruption and nepotisms?
At least there are people like Mr Gill who has the courage to make us aware what is going on. His is known for his views and he identifies himself with his articles. Yet you hide under a false name to give an impression that you are defending the people of Seychelles. If you know that what you are saying in factual reveal yourself and people will respect you for that.
Sorry to say that some of you are out of focus. Mr Gill is not the problem. The problems are those who are taking Seychelles to the bottom of the pit with corruptions, group think, favouritisms toward foriegners with petrols dollars, denying the la misere people their fundamental rights to a fair and just settlements after drinking heavily polluted water and denying them their rights to peaceful protest with viel threat of the use of force.
These are a few food for thoughts and remember that in a democratic society all citizens have their rights to express their views. If you disagreed with Mr Gill you have the right to take him to court for his articles. Till then nobody has done it and we assumed that there are substance in what he writes. After all < nobody would kick a dead dog>. So keep on with the work Mr Gill one day the truth will set the Seychelloise people free. and most importantly you are a Seychelloise who is simply concerned with what is going on in your country? Nobody has won popularity contest with the truth but it is possible to have a good leader amongst the Seychelloise people to lead us as good leaders do.
Stop denigrating this man for talking the truth humble yourself and see what is happening in the Seychelles with open and objective mind. The truth is at our doorstep.

Names of cabinet from SNP are irrelevant because if they do what the MNA's did in the last 5 years, we can expect another 56.75% pay hike and another 70% pension add on for life.

That will take their salaries to 114% and pension to 140% of salaries.

God knows how many embassy cars they will buy with that kind of money.

SAD and yes, very Pathetic......our Opposition in waiting.

I read this article a second time.

The writer of this article discloses a truely sad state of affairs in Seychelles democracy.

The Pl have bankrupted the country. They have lined up Khalifa as a life saver, Eden Island as a floating platform to survive bankruptcy.

PL defends these survival platforms even against the will of the people. La Misere protests block an example. Buring Lydia Jumeau's car an example.

Allowing Eden Island to operate illegal hotel pool outside of project memorandum, to the detriment of Tourism Industry, another example, while Praslin and La Digue suffer and parts of Mahe industry.

Unfortunately, for the People of Secyhelles, the SNP have been pocketed by Khalifa, through Bernard Georges, Eden Island, through money to Ramkalawan, and hence, the main opposition remains silent on issues that will be highly detrimental to Seychelles future.

When Siva wanted to build a 6000 room hotel on Coetivy and create a state within a state, PL allowed, and SNP remained silent aswell.

If an opposition is not in step with our relaities, it is out of step.

The writer, has profound insight, and political emotion to sense something is wrong.

He is of course, right.

I salute the effort and contribution.

So where are we per September 20th 2010, lesss than a year to the election with a corrupt PL in coalition with the SNPL which remains silent regarding the contiuing attrocities?

Reading Nation the last weeks we see clearly that the PL has already started its election campaign by fixing roads and installing septic tanks at Grand Anse and beating their chest afterwards through their mouthpiece Nation. At the same time more foreigners are engaged to make our prisons more secure only this time justified by the fact that they are sponsored by the UN and not taxpayers' money for once. The playground is being shined up after years of neglect and every opportunity is used to give an impression of the PL's great will to help the people with one hand whilst they take with the other.

The Eden Island saga continues as the La Misere story brings us back memories of a time where people were afraid to speak on the phone in fear of 'Big Brother'.

I can see that the election campaign will be as clean as the water Khalifa polluted.

Michel is too scared to call early elections. Here's a few reasons why:

1. La Misere Delo Kaka fiasco - need to pay the people off prior to the elections... forget Ascon. Money will be diverted from one of the funds (probably Social Security) to compensate the people of La Misere... just before elections of course...

2. Sheik Khalifa's eyesore palace on top of the mountain - anti-Arab sentiments abound. Catholics versus Muslims.

3. Useless Irish Policemen (note that they are being sent home quietly).

4. Australian Tax and Customs fiasco (note also that they are being sent home one at a time)

5. PUC Frenchmen Suez Fiasco - Note that they are slowly being dismissed

6. Carrefour now Casino Geant supermarket not finished yet

7. Eden Island fiasco - has turned into the biggest hotel in Seychelles but not paying taxes

8. BMW fiasco - 20 plus BMWs entered the country and not a penny paid in tax. Four Seasons and others using some to do guest transfers. Taxi operators are MAD.

9. Where's the oil Michel? And Adam from Sepec's fiascos too, including the tankers that make no money.

10. Crime is worse than ever before

11. Drugs, drugs and more drugs. Our youth are dying.. and don't forget Minister Lapire's baka houses.

12. Victoria Waterfront Project Fiasco - First Russians, then Arabs from Oman given this prime site in Victoria. Meanwhile the Yacht Club and Marine Charter still have no place to go. That's what Michel calls a heart for all Seychellois while he gives away the heart of Victoria to foreigners.

13. The Siva Ambassador fiasco - Now Siva is a Seychellois passport holder and has bought out 25% of Seychelles as a speculator, not needing Government sanction because he is more Seselwa than you and me.

14. Bankruptcy fiasco - We are still bankrupt. Where's our 2.5 Billion Dollars?

15. STC is still buying goods from Mukesh's offshore companies. Mukesh is still king of Intelvision, Yamaha, Subaru, and so on..

16. Ramadoss fiasco - from Chamber of Commerce chairmanship vote rigging to the Empire of the Sun! Ramadoss rules the Indian community, and Michel needs all the votes Ramadoss brings to the table. And the millions from the Amusement Centre and Pirates Arms and milk and juice factory, and toilet paper, and on and on and on...

17. Passport selling fiasco a la Krecjir - still going on, and on, and on...

18. The Army and the thugs of Statehouse and PMU - still running around killing our citizens. Anyone ready to die for their country yet?

19. Environment disasters - from Praslin Raffles to Long Island and Round Island to La Misere shit hits the fan..

20. Our coastguard base is being built by Khalifa's money...

21. Where's the new mosque? Let us all become muslims and ask the Sheik for a few millions, just like Michel.

22. One rupee land anyone? How about an island too a la Francis Savy? Or an IDC island from Glenny?

23. Air Seychelles disasters... Praslin flights, old planes, Savy and Ravji's contract with Mauritians etc...etc...

24. Michel's lying bunch of Ministers - from Joel (King Liar) to Danny Faure (Cuban Liar), to Dugasse (Mr. 10%), to Meriton (the Soviet Comrade)... All liars, having learned well from Michel.

25. Party Lepep will need millions to pay off the people this coming election. No worries; the usual donors like Ramados, Vijay, Deenu, Ramu, Allied Builders, Shreeji, Saharjahan, Island Construction, CCCL, Island Motors, UCPS, and of course the good old Sheik will be ready with millions. Poor Wavel and his SNPs will have to beg from the Church this time around as even Parkar does not want to back a dead horse who is still at the starting gate.

26. Mr. Election Gappy is ready to go.. a few more millions going into his overseas account soon..
