Letter to President Michel from Christopher Gill

LETTER FROM CHRISTOPHER GILL TO PRESIDENT JAMES MICHEL - SEYCHELLES
Christopher Gill
Leader of MSR Seychelles

James Michel
President of Seychelles

*********

April 12th, 2011

The President of the Republic of Seychelles
Mr. James Alix Michel
State House
Victoria
Mahe

Re: Growing Incidents of Attacks and Violent Actions on MSR Members and Activists

Dear Mr. Michel:

I am writing to you concerning the growing incidents of violent attacks, threats and intimidation that I believe emanate from your Administration, on myself, members of the MSR and our assets.

The incidents now show a consistent pattern that can only be attributed to State action. I am putting you on Notice of these incidents, as President of The Republic of Seychelles and ask that you take immediate and meaningful steps to stop this pattern of violence that undermines the fabric of our society and curtails tolerance and Freedom of Expression that is necessary for democracy to exist in a country.

Pattern of Attacks While MSR Makes Judicial Appeals

As you well know the MSR has been refused participation in the upcoming elections. We are making the necessary judicial appeals for our case and we have called for a General BOYCOTT of the upcoming elections, because we believe, that when  any Seychellois is denied participation in the political

Page Two (2)
process, the promises of pluralistic democracy are not kept, and the People are not given a true opportunity to choose their leaders and the future course
of the Nation. When this happens, it is our position that SHAM ELECTIONS are at play.

Coupled with an appointed Electoral Commissioner, by yourself a presidential candidate, and the restrictive inspection process of the Voters List, it is our belief that the upcoming elections as in fact a SHAM ELECTION and the results cannot be deemed “credible”, in spite of what any government official or International Observer may say to the contrary.

Furthermore, by denying any party the right to participate in the Presidential Elections, they cannot by definition be “Free” or “Fair”. Blockage of a party by using a One Party State law is not consistent with pluralistic democratic process. I believe you have blocked our participation to deny us access to the general population through SBC because you know that “Sesel Pou Seselwa”, is what every Seychellois fundamentally believes in.

During this time of Judicial Appeal, I call on you to take meaningful steps to leave MSR members and activists and myself alone, to allow us to take meaningful steps to exhaust the judicial process of determining the rights of the Party to exist. We demand that we be permitted to function free from any State sponsored, endorsed or encouraged violence or intimidation.

The Appeal will include an eventual case being brought to the International Human Rights Courts, if we are unsuccessful within the Seychelles Judiciary system. Such as appeal is well within our rights, as Seychelles is a signatory to the United Nation Charter of Fundamental Human Rights. Judge Karunakaran failed grossly, to take Judicial Notice of the International Human Rights treaties Seychelles is a signatory party . This can take years to reach finality in judgment.

In the meantime, many MSR members want to be part of the political process in Seychelles. Hence, I have encouraged them to form another party, which will present the Fourth (4th) Submittal that materially amended the MANIFESTO of MSR that neither Mr. Hendrick Gappy was willing to

Page Three (3)
consider, and Mr. Ronny Govinden, Attorney General, refused to permit as evidence in the Supreme Court Case. Judge Karunakaran , did not consider
the Fourth (4th )Submittal as evidence, which I have tendered to the Commonwealth Observers when I met them last month, to give a full and complete picture of the MSR’s efforts and intentions which are  well within the process.

Break –In At MSR Office Docklands

On October 30th, 2010, the MSR office was broken into at Docklands. All our documents were taken, along with campaign materials, Three (3) computer laptops, USB drives, we believe bugs were placed in the office and viruses set in our tower computer hard-drives. Cartoons were taken, manifestos were taken from the office, and the office was ransacked.

A Police Report was made, but no follow up investigation ever took place.

Fingerprints were taken, but no report of the results were ever made available to us.

Seychelles is a small place, and we quickly came upon information that corroborated these actions with State House agents who apparently were acting under your direct instructions.

I call on you to take steps to stop these break ins into our office. We have a right to have an office, collect documents and information and function as an entity or even individual. This office will now house a newspaper company SESELWA Publication, which took Four (4) months to register.  The MSR logos will remain in place, until the International Human Rights Court renders a ruling on MSR right to exist as a Political party in Seychelles.

Attempted Murder of Anthony Battin December 14th, 2010

Anthony Battin, an MSR activist was chased down with hand gun 9mm by Jemmy Marengo, a State House agent, according to a Police Report filed in December 2010. This report was filed with the Human Rights

Page Four (4)

Commissioner, Miss Dora Zatte. Unfortunately, Miss Zatte never replied to this Report. The office has gone silent apparently under your instructions.

I know you do not hold  affectionate relations with Mr. Battin that are clearly understandable under the circumstances of Mr. Battin being sentenced for a life term for a crime involving a victim, close to you.  But Mr. Battin has been pardoned by F.A. Rene, as President.

We both know well, why Mr. Battin was pardoned.

This being the case, he has a right to live, and a right to hold beliefs, and political convictions. Mr. Battin also has a right to freely associate with any one or group he chooses. I ask that your office take meaningful steps to insure that Mr. Battin’s rights as a Citizen of Seychelles, are protected, and insured from further threats by State House thugs. This type of conduct is wholly unacceptable in any democratic country.

A second attempted murder of Mr. Battin took place two years prior by State House agents, which is recorded at the Police Station. We have posted this report as well. Nothing has been done by your Administration.

As a person who lived through the international isolation of the One Party State era, you know better then I, that once the cloth of democracy has shed, a Nation takes down a road of perpetual helplessness.

I ask you, as President of Seychelles, to not take Seychelles down this road. The culture of tolerance can best be cultivated from the position you hold. Similarly, it can be destroyed just as effectively, from your position.

Harassment By State House Agents at STC

On December 20th, 2010, at STC, Victoria, Anthony Battin was harassed by one of your State Security Agents, in a Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 licensed S6572. This vehicle is consigned to your body guard brigade.

I call on you, to order your men to leave MSR activist alone and stop attempting to foment fear and intimidation with the threat of violence in our country, through your agents. We expect a written apology from the men
Page Five (5)

involved and their commitment that they will stop using such tactics in the future.

Seychelles Police Detention and Beating of Jean Paul Isaac

In December  30th, 2010, Police at the Port Glaud Police station, detained without cause, and beat our Political Affairs Officer  while in custody Mr. Jean Paul Isaac. We filed a report with the Human Rights Commissioner

Miss Dora Zatte and received a reply advising us to pursue the matter before the Courts of Seychelles. Your Administration received a copy of this report, and no effort has been made overtly to settle this case amicably. The conduct of your Administration reflects a pattern of knowing of abuses taking place, remaining silent on them, then let the victims expend all their energy to seek justice over a period of years through the court process.

If the judgments are piecemeal, that will discourage citizens from seeking redress for abuse. Hence, the status quo will remain, the country will digress, the rule of force, and violence, will prevail in Seychelles

This type of course of action would be commendable in a dictatorship, Mr. Michel, but in a Democracy, which you say we live in, it is a disgraceful mode of Administration.

I call on you, to instruct  your Police Commissioner to enter into negotiations to settle this case of  Police abuse. Mr. Isaac is entitled to a proper redeeming settlement and the Officers that beat Jean Paul Isaac and detained him, must be reprimanded and duly suspended from the Police Force by your Administration.

Refusal of Registering of Human Rights Organization

The Registrar of Associations, which is under the Office of the President of Seychelles, that is your office, refused to register a Human Rights Organization filed on  January 2011.                    .

Page Six (6)

This refusal to respect the right of a group of Citizens to defend and enhance Human Rights in Seychelles, after we have lived through Seventeen (17) years of pluralism and made little progress in Human Rights, is disgraceful, on the part of your Administration.

As you know, the Seychelles has not filed any Human Rights Country Assessment Reports to be in compliance with International Human Rights Conventions which the Republic is a party . In March 2011, we faced an international tribunal for non compliance in filing reports for numerous successive years.

As this matter is before your office, I call on you to take meaningful steps to correct this gross disrespect for the value of citizens in society. If a Citizen is held beneath the heels of the State, we do not have a Democracy, Mr. Michel, we have a Dictatorship.

This unfortunately, is a fundamental tone that your Administration has not addressed, which, you have inherited from the F.A. Rene Administration.

You must change course, for Seychelles to make meaningful progress and prosperity in the future. Your advisers will not tell you this because they do not have the courage to keep you well informed. They do not make a correlation between the drastic drop in FDI from 2009-2011 ($2 Billion - $140 Million) and factor the lack of apparent democratic practice in place, as a condition precedent  for investors.

If you do not change course, this situation will get worse.

Whatever corrections your office would like to make concerning our Human Rights Organization Memorandum application, advise us, we will consider your comments and make amendments if they are reasonable. The letter rejecting the Human Rights Organization was silent on the “reason” citing only a section of the Land Registration Act is absurd at best.

I call on you to have the Registrar of Association to rectify this malaise and see to it that the Human Rights Organization I filed, is so registered. The

Page Seven (7)

respect for Human Rights, and respect for democracy and individual rights is a cornerstone, to societal advancement and empowerment of the citizen.

Arson on my Property Praslin

On March 9th 2011 an arson engulfed a garage on my business premises Praslin, destroying internal vehicles used for my hotel operation. The arson being set on my premises is consistent with information we have received from State House Informants loyal to “Sesel Pou Seselwa”, who advise us that it is your intent that these acts are so committed in order to discourage me and others from following up on our ambition to form a political party in Seychelles.

This information is highly corroborative with the statements made by Attorney General Ronny Govinden in court, Hendricks Gappy the Political Parties Registrar who both have insisted that MSR must not exist, and we must be stopped from being part of the political life of Seychelles. Hence, there is a common stream of thinking in your Administration, that can only emanate from you, Mr. Michel as the parts of a body, take instructions from the head. It is foolish to think that the toes of a human, would be in charge of its brain.

MSR Vehicle Is fired With Live Ammunition

One month after the arson, on April 7th, 2011, our truck was fired upon by allegedly as per reports by State House agent, named Danny Alcindor.  Mr. Alcindor has a dubious reputation and is consigned to Vehicles Section of the NDEA. I have been advised by State House informant he retains close

relations with you and operates under direct orders from you to conduct covert activity of a dubious nature. If he is in the Vehicles section, he should not be carrying a hand gun.

The replacement cost of this windshield is Sr. 15,000.00. We have filed corresponding Police reports, and we expect you to rise above these petty incidences and see some finality to these incidents.

Page Eight (8)

As President of Seychelles, it is incumbent on you, to discourage acts of violence, particularly when they emanate from your own staff. There is a developing pattern to these incidents, and they are all well recorded and detailed.

I ask that you denounce violence, arson and threats of force on any Seychellois Citizen at this time. Additionally, I ask that you take steps as a man of simple decency to rectify the harm caused by your agents upon my people and the MSR.

I shall be publishing this letter in whole, and copy all Embassies, and all Human Rights Organizations internationally.

Finally, I ask humbly, that you publish a list, once and for all, of all persons who obtained Citizenship while under Gainful Occupation Permit ( GOP) or purchased Passports, under your Administration and F. A. Rene Administration, as this is the root of many of our grievances.

The time for action to solidify our democracy is now. To live in a dream world that we are still in a one party state, but have the window dressing of a democracy will only bear us all  bitter fruit that you will be accountable for.

Sincerely,

Christopher Gill

  2. My god! Christopher, your supposed letter just makes me dizzy. Couldn't you just make your point in a few sentences and conclude????? Do you seriously expect JAM to read this, let alone reply?????
Be serious and you'll be treated seriously.
You want to stand in election? Do so as an independent candidate while your case continues in court.

  3. I will respond the anonymous comment.

Look here i do not have any personal vendetta or reasons to attack anyone especially Ramkalawan i write the truth nothing but the truth so help me god, all in response to those fake profiles he has sent after us in his defense.

If you truly believe in Democracy as you say you do then let’s be realistic why don't Wavel, John, Charles Ramkalwan come out clean and defend himself better yet provide a reasonable explanation to what i post. Why send fake profiles to do the Job??

He is just lucky MSR is like an open book, should we decide to start sending fake profiles as well he would be in big trouble!!

But as all knows MSR will not hide behind curtains and cry wolf when there is a perfectly good hill top to scream such at the top of our lungs.

Thank you for your concern Anonymous...

  4. Chris Gill,

You were not born in Seychelles and you were born out of wedlock.

What makes you more Seychellois than someone from France or England that applies and are granted Citizenship?.

And Gozier, ou lette i fer la peine. Next time you address an elected President, do yourself a favour and the person as:

    Your Excellency
    James Alix Michel
President of the Republic of Seychelles
    State House
    Victoria
    Mahe Seychelles.

In JAM's mind's eyes, he is looking a Chris Gill sucking on an egg.

  5. Well Jean-Paul Isaac you should be writing against the sppf parti lepep and not the snp. It appears you are forgetting that they've been in power for the last 34 years and that they've brought this country to the brink of bankrupcy. They have stolen from their own people through all kinds of scams, fraud and corruption. Between them they have amassed a fortune amounting to 2.5 billion dollars in overseas bank accounts according to the IMF. These are the things you should be writing about and educating your supporters. When you who are also in the opposition start criticising another opposition party, you create confusion in the minds of supporters of the opposition as well as any would be supporters who would hesitate to vote for the opposition when they hear all this bickering among the opposition. So I would suggest you use your energy to attack the sppf parti lepep system (not personal attacks) criticisms should be against the system. Believe me your criticisms of snp do not reflect favourably on you as a member of an opposition as well as the opposition in general.

  6. I am truly amazed by how some people can criticize and attack Chris column without investigating as to whether he is telling us the truth. I for one is convinced he is telling us the truth otherwise there would have been many lawsuits against him. It is quite unusual for anyone in the present regime not claiming damages in the thousands of rupees based on his articles. I am sure they do get dizzy reading his column because there is nothing they can do to stop him from exposing them.
All of you die-hard supporters of Michel regime, instead of attacking Chris, why don’t you try and get to the bottom of his accusations to see if there are any merits to them before you go and cast your votes. By blindly attacking someone’s article goes to show how years of one-party state has done us all.
I have investigated some of his articles and he was bang on! The truth will set us all free, it set me free. Let us all seek the truth.

  7. whoever says Christopher's letter makes them dizzy! That is because whoever they are as well as James Michel does not have enough brains to grasp all the points that Christopher has laid out very clearly ! You must be so used to just listening to that garbage propaganda from SPPF, that does not take much thought to put out ..so when something is well laid out and written you just cannot handle ..it!
This is exactly what FAR and his continuiing regime has done ..kept Seychellois people uneducated so they cannot evn read someyhing as important as what Christopher has written..

How sad..you should feel sorry for yourself and open your mind a bit and read more maybe you can self educate yourself a bit and actually understand how our laws operate ! Instead you are like a programmed android on star trek who cannot think for yourself..

  9. As I've said before: Christopher, you do not need a political party to stand in the presidential elections. You want to give Seychelles back to Seselwa Rasin, you have just over a week to register as a candidate. Go for it.

  10. What a pleasant letter to read? This letter addresses a lot of pertinent issues that James Michel and Co even if he is an elected president in office in a pseudo democracy has refused to address, victimisation, fear, corruption and murder of own citizen. James Michel should learn a vital lessons look at what your green brother Khaddafi is going through for killing his own people. Employing thugs to murder people does not exempt you from prosecution. Please make sure that you are never throwing out of office before the mighty god call upon you. Getting ordinary Seychellois who have contributed to social security fund and then use our money to prop up your fake businesses is not only fraud but a crime. When we Seychellois we have to borrow loan for housing and pay a mountain of interest. You instead of using our money to help our people you are risking our saving on your fail project. You should learn a lesson from Robert Maxwell after he had used all the pension money of his employees. He had to drown himself because he was too proud to face his own employees and the justice system. Do what you want SPPF but one day the pay time will come your way and you will not be able to use fear, intimidation, oppression and murder. Please Jame Michel leave your political opponent in peace and left the people of Seychelles the opportunity to choose whom they would like to lead them. Attacking Chis because he was born out of wedlock is an attack on the people of Seychelles because most of Seychelloises are born of wedlock it is obvious that some of the bloggers do not think when they write and this is the product of communist education and lack of exposure to democratic societies where differences of opinions and tolerant are a human virtues.

  11. A lesson on how to educate our supporters is not what i need from an SNP fan.

As you know and have seen over the years treason is the outcome of sheltering any sins of the preachers.

Seychelles sees its fair shares of treason by the people who clings onto pride and ego only to not admit the truth and reality.

What i as the MSR political affairs officer do is i talk the talk and walk the talk, if i say don't sell Seychelles for one rupee and find out that anyone who is aiding the cause is implicated i will expose treason.

In the case of Seychelles politics i believe that this is not the time to play clean our dirty laundries amongst our self, truth be told Seychelles is very small an if we keep hiding facts by cover-up and lies it will accumulate and became our own demise.

Why don't you see Ramkalawans fake profiles attacking me or Christopher or any MSR member on key issues that will keep Pl in power.

Your answer Anonymous is simple i don't take advice from the people that is playing with dirty hands in the cookie jar and knows they were spotted i keep away from these so that when i speak my words have valor and truth so help me god.

We some how forgot that self respect is a key power that was vested in us by our heavenly father god almighty. But me in MSR i know that forgiveness is not beyond ones reach all you have to do is hand out your hands and confess.

Am doing gods work and i will do it without sin or side track from unholy means.

May the lord open your eyes Anonymous and show you the way to redemption before you can preach freedom to others.

  13. How many of you find all this ridiculous? To top it all, on the eve of the elections, James Michel has "written" a book!! Another reason to celebrate! Somehow I cannot help feeling that there is a connection between the "writing" of this book and the millions that were spent on the recently-held vision 2020 exhibition....Pat Pillay, distinguished former Minister of Education: Is he telling us now that we can forego a good education and hope for the best? Can so-called diplomats please restrict themselves to their assigned role and stay out of politics which the launch of this book clearly was?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anonymous your idea of maturity is being cool, two faced. One face fools the people. The other face does cocktails with PL and their investors for donations to keep the money rolling.

Immature is when a leader takes care of himself and ignores the welfare of his people. 1800 per hour salary a pension for life 70% while SNP allow Pension Fund to give away our hard earned money to Eden Island. Weekly had to cover the article for Regar.

Immature is knowing Bernard Georges did Sr. 1.00 deals for Khalifa, then allowing him to represent La Misere victims.

Immature is knowing Anette Georges did documents for Felicite Island for Sr. 1.00 then running her over and over again as a Vice President .

Immature is Jean Francois Ferrari being a coup player and then thinks he can fool the people as SG of SNP, to make us believe, he has our interest at heart, when he has no heart for Seychellois, and insults me and Gill, as if we are dog excrements, for the work we do to expose SPPF PL.

If SNP is dirty, with SPPF PL on what we unearth, sorry about that, what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

    SNP cannot fool us anymore.

  15. Michel is clearly using the period before nomination to do party politics disguised as presidential business. Diplomats cannot refuse to attend if invited, it will create a diplomatic row. If they were press-ganged into attending, they will now think less of James Michel as president and privately hoping we get a president who will not abuse diplomatic niceties. James Michel is acting like a desperate presidential candidate and not very presidential.

  16. To the person that made this suggestion that Mr Gill should enter the race as an independent candidate. If your suggestion is genuine I person agree with it but I do not value it. Why? First and foremost in any democracy there is a correct way to enter an election even if the other option also exist but it is not wise to enter an election whereby you have been refused the other democratic option. The intention of Mr Gill was not to enter an election and then vanish into thin air. I stand to be corrected but I think the intention of Mr Gill is to create a political party to offer a different choice to the Seychelloise people and it is up to the people to accept his party as an alternative or not. If Mr Gill was to participate has you have suggested he would actually legitimize the window dressing democracy of the one party state in the Seychelles. I would maintain my argument that SNP participation in the election really baffle me beyond comprehension. Why? because the one party mentality of the SPPF system has not been dismantle, for example security clearance is still being practiced . This can be confirmed by listening to the April 2011 radio freedom, state sponsored murder and harassment squad is still operational, state media is still the SPPF mouth piece, election commissioner integrity is questionable the way he runs and prepare election and he is a political appointee and judicial system is in a sorry state where the law of the jungle is being applied instead of the law based on the constitution and on international recognize standards and do not mention our very intelligent attorney general who is really doing a wonderful job for the SPPF. He should investigate the illegal use of the social security fund for financing Eden Island project because now the Seychellois people do not have 8% shares in that but 100% shares. This is more important than that of plantation club case. All of these above arguments are reasons why this forthcoming election is a sham.
I would like to bring one think to the attention of the bloggers Mr Ramkalawan is not only a political leader but also a spiritual leader. For me these two roles are not conflicting roles but they are complimentary roles that Mr Ramkalawan has failed to use it effectively. By not handing an olive branch to the opposition to redress pertinent issues has not been a wise move, by turning a blind eye and say nothing on state sponsored political harassment with threat to murder by the like of Mr Gill and his supporters because of his ideological differences with him is not a wise move and he is not doing justice to Damandra Eluentin and his own supporters who were brutally murderers by state sponsored criminals during the period of pseudo democracy and by remaining silent he is in fact condoning these sort of evil , sadistic, and inhuman act which is a deplorable act of human right charter that Michel government is a signatory . If I not mistaken the greater leader of Mr Ramakalawan is Jesus Christ and one of Jesus great teaching is to love your enemy as you love yourself and to resolve your issues with your enemy on the way to court because once you are in the court it is too late. I do have a lot of respect for Mr Ramakalawan but he has not used his god given potential very wisely. I hope one day that he would reflect on all the great opportunity he has had to make a difference into the life of the Seychellois people. I am a very optimistic person by nature but I truly believed that in the present circumstance that he has accepted to take part to that election .The odds are truly against him unless there is a divine intervention which is very possible.

  17. This is what a sham election is. James is going to abuse all the state apparatus to illegally campaign. Why? because this is the term that SNP has accepted by endorsing their participation in a fake democracatic process. Now we the opposition we will just complain and we will not be able to do anything. Do not pay attention to Patrick Pillay these are self serving intellectual leader. He has to toe the line to continual live his lavish life style.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I also find the inability of all the opposition forces to get together to face the common enenmy sad. Ramkalawan should have put more effort into it but the others also should have done their bit. It takes two (and in this case more) to tango. However, the fact still remains that today our common enemy is Parti Lepep, James Michel and his stooges. This is the enmy we need to fight and ensure that they do not highjack our country for another 5 years - GOD HELP US ALL. " En Nouvo Sesel" his re election slogan says. "Nouvo"???? If it means nouvo under arab domination, more passports distributed, more supremacy of the savy brothers, more of sharing our country with foreign friends and parti lepep sponsors then it may be a nouvo meaning to the word nouvo. As I see it, another mandate will make these clowns more arrogant, strengthen their belief that they're invincible, that this country is theirs.AND,they will NEVER be dislodged from power. EVER.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Even in the democratic world, ruling parties abuse their position in the run-up to the election. The opposition can't complain about the many government activities since the new year. These activities may well be the last breath of a party that now believes it can lose this election. What matters is what happens after nomination, when Michel becomes a presidential candidate.

The problem is a biased SBC radio and television throughout the year, the real mass media in the country, which are controlled by diehard PL supporters, such as Onetime, and who are unashamedly biased and downright unprofessional.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Too many egos in the opposition to get unity. Even if unity was achieved for the election, the government that follows will be unstable and will not last. It will be an impossible task to keep these egos in check. The level of DP and MSR support is unclear and may not matter for the presidential. Not worth the risks of committing to having DP and MSR in government. For the presidential, SNP should go it alone as it is clearly the major opposition party. MSR is an irrelevant for 2011. DP needs to decide whether it wants to be blamed for keeping PL in power for another 5 years if the results are close. There is no evidence that DP has enough electoral support to put pressure on SNP for an electoral pact. It will be different for the national assembly elections where seats can be won on a handful of votes. On the other hand, DP as a political party has a right to stand in the elections if it cannot get a deal with SNP. The decision for DP is not easy -- the result may show its decision to stand was irrelevant or it could show that DP supporters handed Michel victory. If PL wins, DP will be in the same position in 2016. If SNP wins, the dynamics in the opposition will change and who knows how well DP will do in the next 5 years.

I think the overriding objective of someone in the opposition camps should be the removal of PL and change the country for good. In 2011, this means voting for Ramkalawan whether they like him or not. It is not an easy decision, if you are not a committed supporter of SNP. But it is the right decision. Rightly or wrongly, Ramkalawan has eased himself into pole position within the opposition and the rest in the opposition should line up behind him for the greater good of the country. He has after all been chosen by the party to stand at the last convention. Then was the time for other aspiring leaders to convince the opposition that they were the better choice. Not now.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I personally think that at this juncture every opposition regardless of their political affiliation should line up behind SNP and bury the hatchet and live to fight another day. The focus should be LP and this is the monster that we should exhaust our energy to destroy. Remember that during the second world war Russia fight with the British, French and American to destroy Adolf Hitler. LP is our Hitler equivalent. Ideological differences we can address them in the right forum.
I think Nouvo Sesel is a good slogan for LP because this slogan can really be exploited by the opposition to ridicule the LP work for the last five years. Like nouvo SeSel pour Arab, nouvo SESEL pou SESELWA dir bye bye tou nou zoli lans, nouvo SESEL por vol argen lepep por finance proze bann elite SPPF alias LP,Nouvo SESEL avek plis Koripson, Nouvo SESELWA avek loka Arab. So i hope the opposition try their utmost to send their message to the electoral all LP misdeed are too obvious not to see because they have been so arrogant that what they think they can do whatever they want all the Seychellois will not see. No fear and intimidation should stop us from spreading the message because the world is hammering hard on repressive regime like LP alias ZanuPF.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The last two comments support my view that ALL opposition parties and entities should put their differences aside and focus on the bigger picture - removal of Parti Lepep from power. This is what I understand is Christopher & MSR's aims, Ralph Volcere's aim, Boulle's aim, Marston St ange's aim. It can be done if we're all adults, which I have no doubt that we are.

  24. Don't forget that the 2006 election the opposition rallied and united under snp and all predictions were that the opposition was going to win. Even the Economist Intelligence Unit predicted that the opposition would win. We all know what happened. James Mancham rallied behind the snp, but this time very early in the race he has set the tone that he doesn't care. He is backing the Arabs and with it the sppflepep. How can we say with certainty that uniting under one umbrella again would dislodge the sppf or going in separate ways would remove the sppf from power. I have no answer, does anyone have?

    ReplyDelete
  25. 'Unity' has been done before and I do not think it is what it is cracked up to be. There are a few thousand votes (the swing votes) that will decide this election. The conventional wisdom is that governments lose elections, opposition do not win elections. The swing voters will decide whether they like the government or not and make their choice accordingly.

MSR is hardly packing Freedom Square with potential boycotters to worry PL or SNP. The same applies to DP.

SNP should go it alone. The opposition against PL will unite behind SNP, no matter what MSR or DP leaders say.

As for James Mancham, his stance will go down as another betrayal of the Seychellois people. He has not got much time left to redeem his family's name. As far as votes are concerned, he is irrelevant to the outcome.

  26. I agree with the last two comments. With regards to Mancham, SNP is best served by staying well clear of him even if he offered to "help".

  27. It matters not who we vote for as long as it's not for Party Lepep. A vote for anyone other than Michel is a vote for democracy. I am yet to decide who I will vote for, and will wait to hear the messages from Messrs. Boulle, Ramkalawan, St. Ange and Volcere.

Volcere has the courage of a lion and his paper Weekly has done a lot of good to bring out the truth behind Party Lepep's failure and the corruption that is rife under Michel.

Ramkalawan is the stubborn one, has potential but reminds me of a rough stone who is yet to be polished. Given time, he could be dressed up to play the part, and could also make a good VP candidate for the future if he remains in politics.

Boulle is the smart lawyer with a huge ego. But this may not be a bad thing for Seychelles if he was to win. One thing for sure is that the Judiciary would finally find its rightful place in our society, and corrupt drunk lawyers like France Bonte and the joke of our Attorney General Govinden can finally go fishing and stop embarrassing one if not the most important pillar of our constitution.

Marston St. Ange is the outsider, probably coming in at 99 to 1 to win the race. However, even dark horses have their day of glory, so one cannot count him out. His ideas for the islands to have a Minister is a good one as well.

I wish we had 10 more candidates to choose from, with strong patriotic characters such as Christopher Gill, Sylvestre Radegonde, Marc Houareau, Alain St. Ange, Louis D'Offay, and others who have shown strong leadership in their specific domains. Alas, politics is not for the faint hearted, and when one considers the energy and money required to take on Party Lepep, one can see why few want to take up the challenge. Add a corrupt electoral commissioner Hendricks Gappy, a totally biased SBC-TV and Nation newspaper, full access to the population and national ID card databases, use of State Funds and Ministry transport, millions in donations from Ramadoss' casino and businessmen such as Joe Albert, Siva, an Army and Secret Police unit etc..., and who can blame someone from not wanting to step in?

In the end, Michel and his party are at their weakest point ever. Thus, they will use every trick in the book, every occassion they can, and every penny of stolen funds to win the elections, and will use the likes of Gappy to give them inside information not available to others. The foreign money will flow into Michel's coffers because of the promises made to and gifts given to corrupt individuals. Sadly as well, a large majority of the Seychellois populace are still ignorant and brain power have rescinded over the years due to poor education. It is those same ignoramus who want free housing and free handouts at the end of the month, while the other half of the population work harder and harder each year just to get by. Until people are more educated, we will continue with the status quo. This is the reason why Rene and Michel has turned a lot of Seychellois in "Couyon Slaves". Ignorance is bliss.

Finally, one previous blogger mentioned "divine intervention". God is indeed great and can only help us so much as he gave us brains for us to use, not to waste. Use it and convince the non-believers of democracy that one vote for any of the above opposition can truly bring us freedom from the shackles of Rene, Michel and their corrupt gang of thieves.

    Amen

  28. Seychellois have yet to vote for democracy, apart from a small group. It will not happen in 2011. Seychellois will vote for household goods in return for their vote, and then put up with the dictatorship regime.

If you want to vote for democracy in 2011, you must vote for Ramkalawan. A bigger vote for Boulle etc in 2011 will give us PL -- i.e. dictatorship for another 5 years while Boulle etc disappear into the wilderness with your vote for another 5 years.

This is not a mature democracy where we can afford to use our vote as a protest and cast it for third candidates. I know it is getting tedious, but once again we must rally behind Ramkalawan to bring about democracy.

  30. What has Ramkalawan done in the past 5 years to deserve my vote? He went to State House and voted himselfa fat raise and has been lying low for the past 5 years. All of a sudden, he wants us to believe that he will make a great president. I have nothing against Wavel, but after 4 elections, he should have stepped aside and realize that the majority of SEychellois do not believe in him. He is not Presidential material and it is really that simple.

Voting for Boulle or Volcere is no different than voting for Ramkalawan, especially if Michel gets less than 50% of the total votes which would mean a second round. Voting AGAINST Michel is the key to victory.

The fact that the whole international community let this malicious pig hold on to power illegally shows that Seychelles was obviously irrelevant. Without independence this would HAVE never have happened. A leader fails a country but a people put him there in the first place. The FAR regime was a violation of every international law that the UN has chartered. No way in 1992 did Albert Rene win that election, no waaaay...I am surprised that karma has not had his day with him yet. You are better off forcing a second round by voting for Volcere. If you have complaints about his character, you can balme Ramkalawan an ex- Paid Informant to Berlouis for having locked up in

  36. From my discussion with one of the SNP Leaders, it appears that SNP is not interested with an alliance. There is some sort of negotiation between Volcere and Ramkalawan where they have more or less agree to lay off each other for the coming weeks. The SNP Leader i spoke to does not beleive that a unified opposition will give them any advantage, which explains the more or less passive stance the SNP is taking towards a unified opposition. Note that Ramkalawan/not any of the SNP publications have ever made a plea for a unified opposition. From what i read above, i presume are from SNP supporters, the trust of their arguement is that other opposition forces (NDP, Boulle, St Ange) should "kile" and individuals vote for Ramkalawan.

Whilst i am a proponent of a unified opposition (i believe that only that can hope to remove SPPF for obvious reasons: to achieve what is economics we call economies of scale, in politics i suppose we can call it 'pooling resources' money, campaign materials, campaigners, common message, a divided opposition to the masses is not good especially the SPPF hard core supporters, the opposition is a minority-SNP may be the majority of the opposition forces but they need to convince a part of the SPPF electorate so they need to have 100% of the opposition behind them), should the SNP not make any move towards a unified opposition the other forces have a right to exist and stand as candidates. Mathematically, since it is a first by the post, votes for the candidates other than Ramkalawan (but not for JAM) can only be in favour of Ramkalawan as this will bring the % votes of the JAM.

As we stand today, i fear that JAM is going to win the next elections. The only question is by how much? Ramkalawan is going to hit below 40%, this will bring the party down in the next Nat Assembly elections. Even now people who were a few years ago close to SNP (S. Radegonde, St Ange, a few of the Regar journalists, a few Ex Co Members who have left) have distanced themselves as they realise the party is heading nowhere.

I fear that Opposition politics will be tough, tough, tough to paraphrase Mme Potter. Life for the ordinary Seychellois will only be tougher, tougher, tougher in the coming years, as the SPPF drags the country further down the hole!

What Vox says is the explanation for defeat.

Ramkalawan does not want to unite the opposition because that will make the opposition win. I have said it 100 times.

Look into the character of the man, to know his actions, not the action, to understand him.

Ramkalawan wants to be No2 and could careless if SNP loses the next elections.

A united opposition today, with 2 new independent candidates like M. Hoareau and/or Bernard Elizabeth, with all parties behind them, will wipe out PL.

The point is that victory is possible with the right plan of attack.

Right now, Ramkalawan's plan of attack is money in the pocket, that is it.

  46. Just so that we are clear i did not say Ramkalawan/SNP plan is money in their pocket. At the risk of repeating myself my points were:

    1. Ramkalawan/SNP is not interested in a unified opposition. Their reasoning (according to this SNP Leader)is that they do not need an alliance with other parties to defeat the SPPF/PL. Whether it is for personal gain that is the realm of speculation.

    2. I am personally for a boycott of the elections and that for same reasons SNP gave to the Commonwealth observers in April 2011. The field is heaviliy staked against the opposition, the blatant abuse of the SBC is only one example. The abuse of state resources for electineering is only less because of the IMF, once gone the SPPF/PL will be back to to their old tricks.

    4. At this point in time i am undecided whether i will bother go and vote but if i do i will probably vote for Ramkalawan, not because i beleive him to be democratic but because i have had enough of this SPPF/PL regime.

    5. The call for a boycott by MSR may be unrealistic, due to the fear factor (especially if it is not a generalised bvoycott by all opposition forces) I suggest MSR be flexible by suggesting its partisans who are compelled to go and vote (Civil Servants) spoil their votes by voting for all the candidates or returning it blank.

    4. I am convinced that the opposition will be back to square one after the May elections. The leaders of the SNP seem lost and beaten up. The toll of fighting the SPPF/PL is certainly showing. Depending on the margin of victory, JAM may call for a snap election of the Nat Ass after the Jeux des Iles.

    Vox

    ReplyDelete
  47. Gill would not be advocating a boycott if Ramkalawan had met his demands. He would be voting for Ramkalawan enthusiastically. I am not taking his arguments for a boycott seriously. I am certainly not taking his allegations seriously.

There has always been a case for boycotting elections since 1977, especially since 1993. It is the "laplenn nivo" argument which says that PL has an unfair and decisive advantage as it controls and abuses the institutions. It is a finely-tuned argument, as it is unclear whether a boycott without supporting actions such as civil disobedience will achieve anything. Those who believe that changes will come, albeit slowly, through 'parliamentary action' are winning the argument.

Then there is no doubt that many in the past have abstained through apathy and disillusionment. Why vote if the government always gets in ? Some people don't care whether PL or another party is in power. During the one-party era, many people switched their allegiance overnight, saying all governments are the same. How wrong they were. This generation must not make the same mistake. There is clear daylight between them and us.

We all agree on one thing: at least according to what we all say in the opposition.

We all say we want to liberate our country from Pp Collaborator oppression. Taking everyone who says this at their word, and without questioning their good faith in saying it, the obvious question is: How do we accomplish this task? What is the beat way to proceed?

There are those who say we should vote for the SNP regardless of the ill motives or the inferior qualities of its leadership, because they argue, that is the best chance we all have to liberate our country from Pp Collaborator oppression.

There are those who say, that we should instead vote for Mr. Volcere in the DP, because he is of superior moral fibber and has a more reliable character than those leading the SNP.

Both options above rely on one flawed idea. That idea is that the coming elections will be a free and fair vote, and all we need to do is build enough support with a majority of the electorate and victory will be ours. And if victory belongs to us in this free and fair vote, the Pp Collaborators will simply hand over the reigns of power to the winner. This is naive and it betrays a lack of understanding about the Pp Collaborators, and it ignores their long history of obtaining and keeping power at all costs.

The Pp Collaborators have no intentions of holding a free and fair election - they never will. Let me say this again - the Pp Collaborators have no intentions of holding a free and fair election and they never will. The Pp Collaborators will never, I repeat never willingly hand over power under any circumstances.

In my view the Pp Collaborators have stacked the voter registration list with fraudulent and Fabrike voters to allow them to concoct a victory just above 50% of the total registered voters, no matter what the voter do - they know better than to claim a 99% victory as some of their compatriot dictators are fond of doing. That is one of the main reasons the Collaborators are afraid of The Mouvman - we would scrutinize the voter registration list name by name and expose any Collaborator fraud and jeopardize their ability to claim any electoral victory.

The sooner we understand this point the better off we will be.

So what are we to do? We are not powerless or helpless. If we participate in this sham we legitimize it. So we can collectively withhold our vote and legitimizing power. By boycotting the election we exercise our individual power and we tell the Collaborators and the world we will not participate in their sham - and a sham it is.

And after this sham we must be ready to take to the streets and do what we must to retake our country from the Collaborators. There is no other way.

    ReplyDelete
  50. If RAM is serious on what he said to the Common wealth representatives than the question that begs an answer is why he refused to unite the oppostion in order to make the boycott effective?RAM also believes that participating is the best way to get Pp out. But,even if this would be a possibility the thing is that no one party will achieve that alone unless RAM strategy is to participate first than boycott the results which could also result in mass protests since it is clear that all steps have been taken by Pp to ensure that the outcome is in its favor a.But here again Unity is the solution in order for it to have t an impact that can force PP to politcial concession and even change its course.

Change is possible and the opposition can achieve that without firing a shot if only they learn to work as one force gainst their common enemy. As the Creole saying goes" Inite y fer la force".

  54. Reality 1: Voting and keeping SNP as the main opposition implies one party rule anyway since SNP is not pressing and challenging the ruling party.

Reality 2: Abstaining and not going to vote implies SPP win big deal and we enter a new phase of one party rule.

However, in the second case, I see a window of opportunity for a new cause, a wave for new political candidates that would rise and challenge the SPP. It is unworthy to take a ride in an inefficient car that will fail to get you to your desired destination. It is simply better to wait and find a good and reliable transportation that will take you where you want to go.

This implies, we must learn from our experiences. We had great intentions, but the interpretations of the agenda were successfully manipulated and distorted. This calls for a cautious re-branding and framing of a new agenda, movement and party that will have the desire to be number 1 and bring real change to Seychelles.

  56. I will vote for either Volcere, St. Ange or Boulle because they represent change when compared to Michel and Ramkalawan.

Wasting one's vote is not smart as it means Lepep Party will win by a landslide. We the few left with an IQ above 10 must not let Party Lepep get away with corruption and we must also not let SNP get away with 5 years of complacency. In the end, the aim is to top either party from getting 50% which means a second round of voting. Now that's democracy at work.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I would agree to that option also.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Michel can't win in the first round just because Volcere and Boulle (and Gill if you like) did not support Ramkalawan's candidacy as the "unified opposition" candidate. This assumes that there are a few thousand voters who will abstain or vote for Michel because there is no united opposition candidate. This is far-fetched. We only have to look back to 2006 to see how far-fetched it is. Those who will vote for Michel will do it whether there is a united opposition candidate or not.

The most likely drawback where there are 4 candidates is either Ramkalawan is deprived of an outright win in the first round or there is a second round run-off. If Michel does not win in the first round, he is likely to lose in the second round, unless they resort to electoral fraud or state of emergency.

Ramkalawan's decision to go it alone is not a sign of not knowing what to do. It is just that the benefits of the alternative option are dubious. In those circumstances, you stick to the obvious course of action. There has been no show of political force from DP (or MSR if you like) to convince Ramkalawan that going it alone is too risky. In fact the biggest risk he faces is that he lives to fight another day -- in the second round.

There is something strange in those shrill voices calling for a unified opposition candidate. It is coming from the same people who have balkanised the opposition, by leaving DP or SNP, to set up alternative, minuscule power bases. The reason for their leaving is personality and tactic differences rather than policy -- i.e. lack of party discipline. Ramkalawan is showing strong leadership by standing firm and avoiding being blown off course by these people. While Ramkalawan goes vote-seeking across the length and breadth of the country and looks the voters in the eyes, his detractors take to the information superhighway to tell old wives' tales about him. And they call themselves the opposition !

  59. I think when it comes to Michel and Pp the fact is Pp depends on fraud to keep a grip on power whether in the first round, the second or the third to your wishes the only reason why their is sometimes a second round or even a third round ,this solely to give the impression of a competitive and fair election.Pp cannot win in free and fair election ,it did not in the first election after independence and that explain why those crooks forced their way to power by the use of ak 47.

  60. I wish to respond to SNP apologist (2nd from last comment). If Ramkalawan did not believe in strengh of NDP (or the nuissance value of Volcere/NDP) he would not have bothered with meeting up with Volcere a few weeks ago (under the brokerage of Tonie Juliette). The demands of Volcere it appears was too much for an alliance but it appears is that a truce has been called and they stop attacking each other. This is visible in the publication of their respective newspapers. I suppose after pulling a 300 crowd at its convention this Sunday, Volcere feels he has wind in his sail and is hoping for a good showing in the elections.

I beleieve that it would be foolish to hope for a second round. In any case in the unlikely event that this would happen the SPPF/PL will take remedial actions to win the second round. I also beleieve that it is foolish to think that any one party in the opposition can make it alone. The demands of Volcere, should there be a second round be likely be more demanding as he will be king maker.

In 30 days we will know whether Ramkalawan was wise to go it alone. A defeat will spell the end of his and SNP. It will take years to recover.

As for Volcere/NDP they can only go up. From 3% in their last sole participation even if they manage to achieve the equivalent, they are sure to be the only winner of this election.

  62. I am sure Ralph Volcere will do the right thing when the crunch comes. He knows when to bring the brinkmanship to an end, before any irreparable damage is done. A lot will depend on whether he cops the blame for keeping PL in power. In the presidential election, the aim must be to hang on to the R15,000 deposit.

Makes you wonder if those evidence that Pl holds on Ramka if they are not in the hands of Marie louise potter LGB?? She is constantly putting father into the seat like yogi bear after stealing a picnic basket.

  68. I look forward to reading the new newspaper. We need more diversity, especially in daily newspapers. I am trying to work out which one is annoying me more at the moment -- Seychelles Nation or Today in Seychelles. Seychelles Nation has been annoying me for years. But Today in Seychelles is more annoying at the moment because its obsequious reporting of the government was not expected. If you think you can turn to Today in Seychelles to escape government press releases, accompanied by official photos and reproduced verbatim, you will be sorely mistaken. Today in Seychelles does not tell me what I have not heard on the radio, read in Seychelles Nation and seen on SBC. So far, so disappointing. Except for the government who must relish the headlines in Today in Seychelles. They are supposed to dread the headlines in the Fourth Estate, not relish them.

If Today in Seychelles folds, it will be because it tried to be a Seychelles Nation lookalike, a me-too newspaper, not because there is no room for another daily.

Is it really that hard to take a line independent of the powers that be ?

In regard to Seychellois residing abraod we can for example have contact with them through their associations, clubs etc that exist in different countries. This will make it easier to reach the maximum of them and the present of an representative on the ground can facilitate communication and information etc. This can be done via internet and other means of technologies. What we can do here locally apart from donation,we can promote the magazine by informing friends etc.

I never once said that i was a jet fighter pilot nor flow a war craft but if you clearly read my info from my facebook profile and called the aviation university where i studied i think you will find out that i was the only Seychellois qualified to do what i did.

  76. If people like Vox find they still have James Michel and a further 5 years of PL on 22 May, they can blame themselves. In this David v Goliath struggle, they have spent their time attacking David and not Goliath. It is a funny way to go about convincing people that we need change. Their fickle loyalty is a salutary lesson for any political party that they would wish to join.

As for the maximalist MSR, what are they waiting to start the revolution ? Would a piece of paper granting political party status from Gappy make any difference ? These revolutionaries are waiting for official recognition before they start the revolution. Give us a break !

  80. James Michel was out at the port yesterday, kissing and hugging. Listening to him, Seychelles was under attack and his mission was to protect "his" people. I do not want to minimise the ordeal of our fishermen recently captured by pirates. But please, Mr. President, give us a break with your crap and wanting to squeeze political mileage out of every situation! Having said this, should we be risking our people's lives, tax payers' money, etc to ensure that pirates are taken alive and then spend more money to feed and shelter them at Montagne Posee? I say EXTERMINATE them at sea as the vermins that they are. It's clear that the "international community" is paying lip service to this scourge. Weren't they fast to rain rockets onto Libya? I say let's deal with this the Seychelles way. Any takers?

Michel is seen every day on SBC that even when he does have something to say.As to fighting pirates pp strategy is just no effective enough. Its strategy so far has been to wait for Pirates to reach our innner islands to react. We have hundreds of outter islands in the region,Michel could have set up a coast guard base in the region in order that our men in uniform could act proactively against those threats, but Michel our field Marshal,Admiral whatever his title just do not get it.Michel action is a typical mentality one can see in Africa namely waiting or depending always on others to do or solve the problem for them.My piece of advice to our half brain president is to help yourself first than you will have the help of others.

  83. James Michel's demeanour and general body language show that he is far from confident that he will win, despite having a well-oiled and well-financed campaign machinery at his disposal. Will money buy them victory again ? He does not look so sure.

There are many people who will vote for SNP, if they think the party will win. It does not help if so-called opposition supporters talk down SNP's chances of winning, based on nothing more than their roadside chit-chats and gut feelings. Remember that Rene did not see the collapse in his vote coming in 2001. A lot more things have happened since then to worry James Michel.

Ramkalawan has a formidable electoral opponent in PL. He does not deserve to have to contend with a Fifth Column in his midst just weeks before the polls.

  84. Michel is very worried in deed and as you put it he is not sure if buying votes will really work out this time round.Buying votes works on the mainland Africa where there are millions of illiterates who cannot think for themselves but surely not here in a country where the people are educated. My advice to those Seychellois being offered money for the votes-Take the money becuase it their tax payers money Michel is distributing to them than just vote according to their will as a freeman.

She was gloating that life was tough, tough, tough for the British people and Europeans generally, after the financial crisis. Potter and PL have been blaming the recent international financial and banking crisis for Seychelles' economic problems. Our problems started years ago. The economic problems in Europe have not stopped PL going cap in hand to them for more aid and debt cancellation, after 34 years of economic mismanagement. The Europeans have responded generously, despite taunts from an ungrateful Potter and PL. Potter should not insulting our intelligence. Ramkalawan will be a breath of fresh air, a clear signal to the world that we have matured politically and ready to take our rightful place among the democratic nations of this world.

A win for Michel will be an open invitation to the crooks of this world -- come on down, it is business as usual in Seychelles and the Seychellois don't care.

The devil you know is Michel today. The devil you don't know is Michel after 22 May if he wins. Did he tell you he was going to bring in the IMF, devalue the rupee and increase the cost of living when you voted for him in 2005 ? No, he looked you in the eyes then and swore blind that he would do no such thing and that IMF was a monster. And of course he said nothing about the return of colonialism which is bound to reach new heights under Michel.

  99. I think Ramkalawan can be the greatest president since independence. Mancham never had a chance, although he has made a fool of himself since his return from exile. Rene and Michel have been failures, by any standards. They have retarded the development of the nation (check out Mauritius that came from behind to overtake us), bankrupted the economy, started a reign of fear that lasts to this day, inflicted the IMF humiliation on us, almost drowned us in a sea of foreign debts and humiliatingly forced to seek default on debt and ask for debt forgiveness, gave refuge and passport to foreign crooks, depend on more foreigners than the British ever did etc etc etc

The Arab Sheikhs can't think much of Michel as president, otherwise they would not be walking all over him and think they can walk all over us. It will get worse, now that he taken their money.

Michel needed an Irish ex-prime minister to show him the ropes.

Seychelles must be the only country apart from Burma that has a army colonel as president, whereas the trend in the world is to move away from military men running countries.

When democratically elected foreign leaders look at Michel's background (coup d'etat, murders etc), they must wonder what sort of people we are to elect him. Ramkalawan won't have this baggage to carry. To the world, he will represent the break with our sordid and squalid past. That will give him credibility and gravitas. He will deal with Khalifa as an equal, something that Michel has not been able to do.

The backward SPPF/Parti Lepep supporters need to realise that in the world today you do not have to be white or whitish to be seen as a serious leader. For many decades, many people could not envisage a black person as president of South Africa. There has been 3 since 1991. These same Lepep supporters would reject a Barack Obama, while accepting the return of colonialism under PL and living as third-class citizens in their own country, if only they could understand that Seychelles is their country.

  102. Lack of Discipline-

The rational you present is nonsensical.

Ramkalawan is a Presidential candiate in a not credible process. He has chosen to participate and has been accepted to do so. He knows the votes are rigged. What Michel is worried about ans sweating over, is if the rigging will work and if people will respect being bought with money, fridges, roofing sheets, and flat screens.

If it does not work he will kill anyone that beats him. The equation is really as simple as that.

The SNP false hope prophets that comment here without names, do not think that PL will use force to stay in power. For that, they are naive and not very smart as usual.

The only way to remove PL is through street protests for TRUE DEMOCRACY. Take them down like it is being done in every country around us. Because we are a small country, united , we can finish them off faster then a larger country.

Dictators are always weaker then they appear.Michel is much weaker then he appears. He sent a Major to break into MSR office, so that tells you how weak he is. Irish mercenaries keep his fabric together. No different from Gaddafi or Murbarak.

By Ramkalawan participating in the elections at this point, he is in fact empowering Michel and PL with another mandate.

That is why many people in the Opposition are disgruntled and will not back Ramkalawan in the first round.

If there is a second round, we will see what plan is in place to block the bullets.

As far as his neurons are concerned the last five (5) years have exposed them to be asleep.
You people in SNP have made one foolish mistake of great proportions: you have fooled yourselves all along into thinking you are parliamentarians in a Democracy, when all along, you have been pawns in a dictatorship and nothing more then window dressing for SPPF PL to the World.

The 38% salary increase and 70% pension for life of salary for all politicians shows you were just pawns.

The last session fo the Assembly exposed SNP is a pawn for PL conclusively beyond a doubt.

Yet, you guys just sit there and take the shit for all of us in our name.

    Pathetic!
The only course, is BOYCOTT and street protests until PL leaves.

We want Ramkalawan to do that. Then he will have our support.

  103. Ramkalawan leads a constitutional/parliamentary opposition party. He is supported by thousands in his decision to stand in these elections, despite people's concerns about the massive advantage that PL has. I do not expect him to lead demonstrations against the elections. I expect him to go out canvassing voters.

If PL were to lose and refuse to leave, I would expect Ramkalawan to lead actions to get PL to go after the elections.

You have participated in elections before. You have been in the National Assembly. Less than a year ago, you were seeking a key role in these elections, under the guise of uniting the opposition. That means, you have your own personal CREDIBILITY GAP to overcome. Get your own house in order, in a manner of speaking.

Anyroad, a man is entitled to change his political views, even at the risk of appearing inconsistent, moving from one position to another. It's ugly, but it's allowed. You are now obviously committed to revolutionary politics (it must be hereditary, rather than expeditious) and boycott of elections.

Nomination day is on 27 April I think. Here's an idea. Show people that there is an alternative to these "not credible elections". Organise something in town, e.g. burn nomination papers (fake ones of course). You won't get police permission to do it, but from what brother leader Leonard says, you are not asking for permission. I suggest Leonard is there too. The Americans are flying their drones over Libya from the US. Leonard should not direct the protests from Guam, tempting it might be for him. I suggest similar protests are held during the election campaign. And also during the cooling off period for maximum effect. Show people you genuinely believe these elections should be boycotted, and that you are not just saying so because you are not standing for whatever reason.

You seem to have a problem with people writing anonymously. I have no idea whether you do any anonymous writing. But I know that until a few days ago, you were using a fake photo for your profile on Facebook. You saw nothing wrong about using a fake photo to make a point, yet you rant about people writing anonymously on blogs and Facebook to make their own point. It is called HYPOCRISY. It is something else that you have to overcome, before you can expect to be taken seriously as a politician.

I made allusion earlier to the role your father played in giving us Albert Rene. It seems the Gills owe the Seychellois people big time. I hope this Gill generation is not about to repeat the mistake and increase their debt to the Seychellois people.

  106. Leonard Francis GillApril 25, 2011 at 5:46 AM

We Gills are not "committed" to revolutionary politics. We are committed to the independence, dignity and sovereignty of our people - the Seselwa Rasin - and we are committed to genuine democracy for our motherland. We have held these principles now for 2 generations.

As an anonymous observer pointed out above, my Father fought for those ideals when he was alive, and now that he is gone, we Gills will continue. My Father fought side by side with Rene the Butcher to make Seychelles independent and sovereign, and for the Seselwa Rasin people to become recognized as a sovereign people and the owners and stewards of our patrimony, our homeland, Sesel. As anonymous has also pointed out, this was not an "expedient" effort to be bargained for personal gain. We Gills are not merchants of our patrimony or our principles to be bargained and sold just so we can accumulate more wealth or comfort - this is not our habit. Though, sadly, it is the habit of some of our leaders.

My Father along with Rene the Butcher and Loizeau started the SPUP to fight for the same things that MSR fights for now. Except that the Butcher and his student Michel have betrayed those principles. They have sold us out to Fabrike and to foreigners. So MSR will oppose them through any effective strategy as my Father opposed the British and the Butcher to gain our independence, sovereignty and democracy.

It is no coincidence that Michel the Collaborator and Rene the Butcher fear MSR so much as they do. They both know that Rene the Butcher, in 1964, was a penniless attorney professing some ideas. Those ideas were powerful to many of us Seselwa Rasin who wanted to own and control our patrimony and be recognized as the indigenous owners of our homeland - Sesel. We all know how he manipulated and perverted those ideals. And when he did, my Father opposed him at great personal cost.

So the butcher and the Collaborator know that revolutions are not started in the streets. It is ignorant to think so. Revolutions are started in people's minds. When people know - they will act.

We in the MSR are educating the people of the plain fact that the coming elections are a sham. They are rigged. The Collaborators have stacked the electoral register with Fabrike and fraudulent voters. That is why the Collaborators do not want MSR to see and inspect the register.

Also, the Collaborators have apparently secured the assent of the SNP in their electoral charade - the sham. Then, to ensure the Pp scam election is not exposed, they have refused to certify MSR who would genuinely and forcefully contest the Pp Collaborator hold on power.

Knowing that the elections are a sham and knowing that it makes a mockery of democracy, we in MSR have taken a strategic posture that will deny the Pp Collaborators the legitimacy they seek from the scam elections. This can only be accomplished by boycotting the vote or spoiling your vote if you do vote. This is how we individual Rasin can exercise our sovereign democratic power over the Collaborators. This is how we inform them that we will not tolerate their selling out our country to Fabrike and foreigners. This is how we tell them we want genuine democracy and not scam elections.

Then we must go to the next step of peaceful street protests so we can ultimately have a genuine democracy and not the scam elections and sham democracy we currently have.

Insofar as my personal participation is concerned, I will do whatever is necessary. But that will be decided by the MSR to maximize my value to the effort. Not by Collaborators commenting here.

Sir, I congratulate you on your efforts to spread confusion in this upcoming SHAM Election that the PL have rigged, and SNP is participating in.

MSR is not part of this process, so you do not have to resort to tactics of publishing falsehoods to retain credibility , as you participate in a not credible process.

The fate of your party and your self, is sealed due to your own decisions, not MSR or Christopher Gill.

It is not socially correct to blame MSR or Christopher Gill for your own failings. Afterall, you have been failing the People of Seychelles for the last five years. PL for their part, has failed us for 34 years.

I wish you a good rest in peace.

When the results of the SHAM ELECTION come out, do not blame Gill or MSR, we were not part of this corrupted process finishing in division instead of being overturned in UNITY.

  116. Ferari is spreading confusion because he is himself confusioned.SNP has failed to put for the people a convincing manifesto that can canvass voters behind their leader, its strategy consists only of criticizing Pp failed politics but does not provide alternatives to the criticism made. This is a sign of weakness and with such a weak presentation ,defeat seems inevitable for SNP.And one more thing Ferari, when defeat knocks at your door do not tell us you did not warn you.

  117. At best, what J. Ferrari and W. Ramkalawan and company are discovering is that the seeds of DIVISION which they have sowed, are bearing fruits of a major catastrophic defeat for the SNP.

He has made a knee jerk reaction found in the mind of a 16 year old. It seems after the coup the man stop growing.

MSR is not participating in these SHAM- RIGGED Elections. Along the way as we fought for our right to participate, we found out HOW rigged it is. The World knows, the SNP know, from our experience, the election process in Seychelles is rigged. They cannot blame us for what they will now reap, after sowing seeds of division in the Opposition, themselves, single handedly.

Focus on PL- SNP, not MSR or NDP. You guys have really lost your senses. You should have had a plan to remove PL, not a plan to keep your position as No.2, which is why you are offended so much by alternative ideas.

What Ferrari has done to use my name and fake comments, is in line with their failed strategy of using fake profiles here and facebook. It is a ridiculous way to face our realities and as Mark Zuckerberg Founder of Facebook, said recently, fake profiles show lack of INTEGRITY by the user. Now what does taking someone's name and faking comments show?

Is there a word that goes beyond "Lack of Integrity" out there to describe what Ferrari has done?

How to indetify Ferar`s faked comment well the first that comes to his head while faking and using Chris^name is namely"there will be alcohol, baka on sell"-this is tactic use by Pp and SNP to brain-washed voters, becuase they know they have nothing to offer to the people then failures.ferari uses political reallies to promote the abuse of alcohol to our youth and parallelly operate a black market. That is not serious on the part of politcal leader you should lead by eyample.

The use of fake profiles, fake comments and all manner of deception designed to chill our right to free speech, informs us about the character of the person doing this.

What we see here by these fake comments attributed to Christopher, which are intended to deceive and confuse, is a continuation of the PP Collaborator practice of government by manipulation, deceit and theft - whoever is doing it. Whoever is doing it, we are dealing with a Pp Collaborator character - no more no less.

In short we are dealing with someone of low to no integrity, and low to no principles. Someone with little to no self-respect, and probably less respect for the Seselwa Rasin people.

We are sick and tired of these kinds of leaders and those who mimic the Collaborator leaders we now have. We are sick and tired of those leaders who think deceit and manipulation are smart and slick. We are sick and tired of those leaders who think a lack of integrity is respectable. We are sick and tired of those leaders who think the best theft of our patrimony is the biggest one. We reject this kind of leadership - this kind of character.

We want leaders, at the highest levels of our political system, to be people of principle; people with self-respect. People who respect our patrimony. People who respect us Rasin as the owners and inheritors of our motherland and who treat our motherland as precious. We want leaders who respect our right to speak and discuss issues freely and openly without retaliation or deceptions.

In short we want to be led by solid and principled leaders with solid backbones who stand openly and upright and who talk straight. Not those with spines and backbones you would normally find in a green household lizard more comfortable hiding their true selves while crawling in the shadows and corners of our political space.

All of you good Seselwa Rasin out there, step forward, reject this kind of deceptive and manipulative leadership. Take a role in our political system and discourse. If good people like you do not, you will be led by the likes of those individuals posting these fake profiles. You can do no greater honor to yourself than to take up this important work - in whatever way or form that you do it.

  120. You could have made your point in a paragraph. It is the sort of convoluted speech that saw you outwitted by D Karunakaran.

The call from James Michel for ethical political campaigning must be grist to MSR's mill. Michel is clearly trying to curtail opposition campaigning on his weaknesses -- i.e. his unquestioning loyalty to Arabs. He is trying to keep the Sheikh Khalifa and the Sesel pou Seselwa issues out of the election campaign. He has left it too late to pass a law to this effect.

There was nothing ethical in how they have used SBC to campaign, even before the campaign proper has started. SBC campaigns for PL even during the 3-day cooling off period. Not to mention all the bribes the government is dishing out in the run-up to the vote, despite having had to call in the IMF to mend the country's finances.

Elections law now prohibits the use of government vehicles to ferry PL voters to polling stations. Chances are PL will do as they please and no one will dare slap them with a R20,000 fine for each offence or lock them up for 2 years.

The opposition does not have to join this committee. PL does not stick to any gentleman's agreement, it finds a way round it. SNP and DP should boycott this committee.

The scoundrel is seeking refuge in ethics. How laughable !

  123. The opposition should never join any LP committee leading to the election. It has become obvious that MSR was barred from the election because they were going to spill the bean during the election campaign. Whether MSR is not going to participate we should relentlessly keep on reminding the voters of Michel credential such as being a loyal servant of Arabs. Trying to change our demographic with all his imported Seychelles. Being part and parcel of the 2,5 billion dollar in foriegn accounts. As the previous bloggers had said there is no ethics with atheist and communist and leaders who have practiced deceipt and lies just to enjoy a lavish life style with his cronies and crooks. This election will be very tight and LP leadership will be in for a surprise. I really think that it was a good strategy by the SNP not to hold any rallies during the campaign and this is sending shiver to the spine of LP because they will not be able to use intimidation against anybody because they will not be able with the collusion of SBC to identify their victim to punish and intimidate. Please let us have a truce and let us help the opposition to oust these criminals from power. Like the bible say turn the other cheek. Personal I donot agree with the SNP ways of doing things but i bigger dream is to live in the Seychelles without this evil empire LP. That is the most important things for me. A new breath of really independance in our country will be a good starting point despite of all our differences which are normal.

  124. The Commonwealth report on past elections has been quoted above.

The Commonwealth will say that the elections are credible as long as:

    (a) any voter is allowed to go to the polling station to cast their vote
    (b) the vote is cast in secret, without duress in the polling booth
    (c) all votes are counted correctly.

I think PL will allow all 3. The Commonwealth will say the elections are credible, if PL wins clearly. The issues they will raise will relate to democratic norms that PL do not live up to between elections.

The uncharted territory is what happens if having counted the votes, PL does not accept defeat, get Gappy and his goons to fix the votes or refuse to leave. Personally, I think that was more likely in previous elections than it is this time. Hence why Michel looks worried. He knows Plan B (to do a Gbagbo) is off and it is better to go for Mo Ibrahim prize which includes a $200,000 pension for life. Further there is the Sheikh -- he will shun Michel and Seychelles if there is political turmoil. He has enough on his plate nearer home, with his own restless kind. MSR is being disingenuous in raising this spectre to justify a boycott.

At the end of the day, people will have a chance to go to the polling station to change their government, like the South Africans did in 1994. If they do not do that, they can't expect Ramkalawan to break the law to impose change on the country.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I agree there should be no events that would indicate the current strength of the opposition. It will be a psychological war against PL leadership and knock their confidence off. The absence of opposition rallies should also be seen as a protest against the abuse of state resources by PL for party purposes and against the lack of democracy generally. The money saved should be used to hire cars and taxis to get the lazy voters to the polling station.

Seychellois with a sense of patriotism should not be part of this faked election sponsor by Khalifa and ehich result is determined in advance. The reality of a thing, including an unpleasant thing,is always what it is objectively and it is useless to embellish it by means of artifices and speculative chimeras, especially if it is only to modify the impression produced by the reality rather than the reality itself.Within this context the reality of this country elctoral process under PP contrl is so sinister that it cannot create any illusion. The illusion rather comes from the recurring temptation to embellish the ugly impression by the reality.

As to RAm ,he has opted to go it alone and i hope he is not blinded by greed of self interest politicas becuase this time around he might inflict the biggest harm on his own ploitcal survival.is not conducting rallies a preemptive measure by RAM or an attempt of suicide before any one had even try to murder him?We will see.

What if Pp is defeated and Michel refused to go .Well the people will have to use of means to get him out.As in the Arab world the people started by asking thier government to change course they resisted what happed then the people got tired and lost their patience ,they took to the streets in mass and ask not for change but shouted loud and clear "we wanted to topple the regime, and these sounds are still echoing in the streets Yemen syria as we speaks.Michel is known for havinf an easy finger on the trigger,ti is his favority sport then we will see if Michel is a Ben ALi,Assad ,Mubarak or Gadhafi.

We do not need the Commonwealth to tell us if we do or do not have a genuine democracy.

We know the Pp Collaborators have stacked the electoral register with Fabrike and fraudulent voters and that is one reason they do not want to certify The Mouvman - we do not need the Commonwealth to tell us this. The Pp Collaborators are aware that if MSR is certified we will draw the Seselwa Rasin people's attention and any other observers' attention to the fact that have rigged the game - we do not need the Commonwealth to tell us this.

We Rasin and any other reasonable and objective observers need to focus on the bogus electoral register rather than on whether the bogus voters contained in it are allowed to vote and their votes are counted. Of course the Pp Collaborators are going to allow their Fabrike and fraudulent voters to vote. Of course these votes will be by secret ballot. Of course these votes will be counted. That is the point after all. These votes have been and will continue to be the difference between victory and electoral defeat to be manipulated at will by the Pp Collaborators. It will continue to be so in this election.

Knowing these facts, is it naive to believe that the coming elections are free and fair? If we know the elections are rigged and a sham, is it sensible to waste resources contesting them rather than concentrating these resources on trying to make them genuinely free and fair and based on a clean electoral register of voters? I submit that if you contest or in any way participating in these sham elections knowing they are a sham, you are indirectly supporting the sham. Wouldn't you think so?

Given these facts, MSR had no choice but to call for a boycott or to spoil your vote if you vote and all those who love and want genuine democracy in our homeland should heed this call and boycott the coming polls. In this way we individual Rasin exercise our individual dignity and sovereignty. In this way we reject Pp deceit and dictatorship.

  131. Our country is being annexed by foreigners with the help of a party of gangsters called PP. Therefore our SOVEREIGNTY is under threat and as a sovereign nation we have a legitimate right to defend it from any threats arise and with all means we think necessary.

Recognition of the sovereignty has long been a cornerstone of International law and a basic principle of democracy.Several declarations and resolutions of the UNITED NATION as well as other Interantional covenants recognize:1)that sovereignty of every country is an absolutely indepensable condition for realization of equal rights of all nations and 2)condemn any violatons of the sovereignty of countires as a breach of Interntional peace and a crime against Humanity.International law also recognizes the rights of oppressed peoples to rise in struggle using such means as they deem necessary to secure their sovereign rights.
FOR YOUR REFERENCE-- United Nation Resolution 1514 (xv) of 14 th December 1960.

Now MSR cannot participate becuase Pp dictatorship has illegally decided so,but nevertheless MSR will continue to impact on the efforts to bring about change in this country. Our people deserve better than the binary choices the Pp status quo offers namely repression and disintegration. The people has enough with Pp tyranny!Enough with expliotation, domination and marginalization of the majority by a minority.Change is indispensable for this country if we want to heal the old-age ills of injustice, corrupton, cronysm, you name it perpetruated by PP.It is a cancer that we need to deal with before it kill us all.

  136. You would have thought they would make an appearance but they were nowhere to be seen. I am sure in this election period SBC would have had to interview them.

    Round 1 to the opposition.

Ramkalawan, Volcere and Boulle gave better interviews than Michel who look tired and decrepit. Ramkalawan is also top of the ballot paper. PL voters will have to go through all the opposition candidates before getting to Michel, apart from their Arab supporters and those illiterate PL supporters who read from bottom up. Doubting opposition supporters may well opt to tick the first box on the ballox paper.

Ramkalawan was right to concentrate on the state of the country -- economy, law and order, social ills. Those who care about democracy already support SNP.

Volcere seems to have a cogent, intelligent case for participating and forcing a second round. He is not going to get that if he keeps addressing ex-DP supporters who voted SNP last 2 times. He will need to find a way to get to disaffected PL supporters or the youths who might be inclined to vote PL or those who would not normally vote. In that respect I was expecting too see DP's whipping boy Elizabeth as VP candidate. His main problem is this -- what will he do in the second round if it is between Ramkalawan and Michel. He is not really saying he will support PL if the deal is right ??

Boulle will have the best sound bites, but he can kiss goodbye to this 15k. In fact Gappy may well have made 30k for just a couple of hours work yesterday.

But Gappy might have jeopardised the whole election process with the disqualification of Dhanjee and the threat of court action. Would it really matter if some NIN were incorrect ? Shouldn't Dhanjee have been given the chance to correct errors in the next 7 days ? Perhaps it had something to do with his chosen colour -- pink. The court will have to decide this.

His reasons for not giving LUNGOS observer status are laughable. He clearly wants the running of the elections to be a one-man show, assisted by 2 goons that he has appointed himself. He wants only foreigner observers who will be in the country for a holiday while doing some election observing.

Gappy says LUNGOS is not an NGO, because the U in its name stands for Unit. Does not Gappy know that NGO stands for non-governmental organisation ? This decision is 100% political.

To add insult to injury, he says that LUNGOS has "transparency" and "impartial" problems. Gappy should know -- his electoral commissioner office is not transparent and not impartial. These are the same reasons that SPPF used for years to justify appointing only foreign judges, rather than Seychellois judges.

What then is ethics ?Ethics is two things:first ethics refers to well-founded standards of rights and wrong that prescribe what humans ought to do,ususally in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to society, fairness,or specific virtues. For example refers to those standards that impose the reasonable obligations to refrain from stealing, murder, slander, fraud etc.. Can Michelbe associated to any of these qualities?

It is possible to run an ethical campaign. BUt whether it is possible to run an ethical campaign and win however is another story.I am not sure it depends on the aspect of compaigning becuase there are some candidates who are more ethical about for example, fund raising issues and there are others who are more ethical about their spin.

  157. So, James Mancham, the self-appointed statesman, a role not even recognised by PL government, steps into the political campaign and endorses James Michel's call for 'ethical political campaign'.

What makes Mancham think that Michel is a reformed character ? At the last campaign, Michel asked Mancham to go back where he came from and threatened to send him into exile one more time. Mancham left the country while people were still voting, to catch the last flight out of the country, fearing Michel would unleash violence on the country if he lost.

There will not be any ethical political campaign from PL, just like ethics have been absent from SPPF and PL since 1977.

It is heart-rending to see Mancham prostituting himself to PL, under the guise of statesmanship. He has moved in to occupy the place next to Michel formerly occupied by Rene. His primary aim since 1993 has been to get back all his property seized by Rene. SNP should refuse to enter into Mancham's bidding game for his support -- that what I call ethics.

Let him vote for Michel, the man who could have shot him dead if the plan to annihilate the government on 5 June 1977 had been carried out. That's not statesmanship. That's demagoguery. At official functions, he is either touching shoulders with Michel or just a few metres away. They do say you are never more than a few metres away from a rat, even more at official functions. If James Mancham is shameless in the pursuit of personal interests, let us hope future Mancham generations will forgive him.

Mancham should know he has gone terribly wrong when his most ardent admirers are now PL activists.

The man who is clearly inviting bids for his vote and whatever remains of his waning political support is lecturing us on ethics. What the hell is going on ?

You are not a statesman because you think you deserve to be recognised as one. You are a statesman because you have earned people's respect through your conduct and that is something that Mancham has not. You are not an elder statesman. You are an old fool.

  158. SNP should refuse to buy Mancham's vote or the vote of anyone else for that matter. That's ethics.

Let us see PL do the same.

  159. I remember Alcindor's sermon last year at the Feast of St Joseph's mass at Anse Royale, broadcast in glorious technicolour by SBC, with James Michel and his ministers in the front row.

Alcindor said we should not blame the government for our problems. That was when the economic hardships from the economic reforms were kicking in. Presumably, Alcindor meant we should blame ourselves for our predicament or -- Heaven's forbid -- God himself. With priests like these, it is not surprising that the nation's morality has plummeted.

    ReplyDelete
  160. To some extents Alcindor is right to say that we should blame ourselves for our predicament for it difficult to understand how our people could have let a handful of thugs oppressed them for so long and they still to resisttThey seem to be all stoic, but for how long?On the other hand Alcindor might be dreaming of being another RAM someone who turned his back away from GOD by greed ,participating behind the scene with PP to prolong our people suffering. His many mis- steps has endeared him as collaborator.Hope Alcindor will have a moment of reflection and make a clear decision of what he wants to be a follower of GOD or Communist? He cannot be both.

A word to PP communist regime ,three weeks ago i was on a visit to Belgium and i had an interview witha member of the group known as "ANONIMUS"- subject discussed- how to expose and get into Pp internet system in order to enveil all their criminal actions .I am just awaiting to see the election result,if Pp faked i am going to expose it in away Michel has never dreamed of.

You might wonder why do i make it public-For Pp to get ready for no one can avoid ANONIMUS. And i take all responsibility.

    ReplyDelete
  164. He couldn't resist using the tragedy to get more publicity. But the fact is that road safety has had a very low priority under SPPF or PL. They have spent billions to keep themselves safe, but spent peanuts by comparison to keep Seychellois safe on the road or at home.

  165. Just think of this for one minute: James Michel could very well be re elected for another five years. Scary? You bet!

    ReplyDelete
  166. If he is re elected it will be becuase of fraud not by the people votes under such circumstances we would have to use an all-exclusive mass protests to get rid of Michel and his ilks.Thirty-fours years of repression and dictation is more than enough we would have to force Pp out.

  167. I regret but if we have chosen to go through the democratic route, i.e. elections, we should follow the process through. We cannot say that it's ok "as long as we win". In elections there are obviously winners and losers. Up to the collective opposition - but especially Ramkalawan and SNP to prove to people and convince them that they are a credible alternative. I have not yet made up my mind whether to vote at all. At the moment I'm just not impressed with anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  168. I totally agree. A sign difference would have been unison of the oppostion to give oneness to their goals. Both SNP and DP has lots of work to do , becuase if they cannot unite on a common strategy to fight a common enemy how can they convince the people that they would be better and more effective than the incumbent government. They must show that the have quality of leadership and one of these qualities is being able to work as a team. They will both have other chances to demonstate thatthey can work as team in the second round if there is one,or by rejective the end results and call for protest if Pp steal the election.

  169. I do not understand where the talk of "second round" came from not can I understand the mathematics. Either one of the two main parties will attain the minimum 50% of the votes cast. I do not see how Volcere or Boulle could gain sufficient support to be king maker. I do not see their combined level of support exceeding 2%.Whilst they are exercising their democratic rights to offer people a wider choice, I cannot help feeling that their presence in the race is a distraction. It will be interesting to see where their support come from. Dissatisfied SNP and Lepep? No doubt.More SNP than Lepep? Possibly as I think dissatisfied Lepep will be staying home and not bothering to vote.

  170. Ramka had a respectable turnout to his manifesto launch last Friday.A good turnout. The usual promises which one sees in all manifestos the world over. Many of us expected him to give an indication of the people who will be putting these promises into action if he was elected. Manciene at finance? God help us all.Ferrari at foreign affairs, everyone take cover. Anette as Attorney General? Could fly.David Pierre at education? He does not have the calibre. But James Michel has also appointed the likes of Sinon, Adam and Athanasius - unknowns and inexperienced as ministers. Whether they are efficient is another discussion. But will Pierre be around? Rumours are rife that he's about to desert Ramka. Another rat abandoning ship? He must know something that we don't and I'm sure he'll let us know soon.

  171. Boulle is a candidate by bordom and for his ego than a concern for change when you look at his manifesto what he offers is not actualty nor the immediate concern of our people ,.His present won't make a meaningful dent on the process at all.But he can at least if Pp keep hold of power bz fraud join the other candiddates to pressure Pp out.

  172. Ramkalawan surprised many with his choice of VP nominee. It was none of the usual suspects and he took a calculated risk. It showed the man has mettle. If elected, he will be in an even stronger position to pick his own team from the vast Seychellois talent that has been sidelined by PL.

I think Volcere is playing a useful role in this election, as long as he attacks PL. His PPB shows that he is a formidable campaigner. He can also raise issues that a government in waiting can't. A government in waiting can't upset people like Khalifa too much, while trying to get the anti-Arab colonisation votes. The hope is that his attacks on PL convince some people to desert PL, and these people end up voting for SNP as the only party that can dislodge PL. Volcere should really see this election as preparation for the National Assembly elections. In fact, I would even advise him to withdraw as soon as the campaign is over and ask his supporters to support SNP, and hope SNP will be grateful for the National Assembly elections. He will keep people guessing about his real level of support, and use it as a bargaining chip for the NA elections where DP votes may well deprive SNP of some seats.

A vote for SNP is not just a vote for Ramkalawan as president, or a vote for people that we do not want to see as ministers. It is much more than that. It is a vote to transform this country from a quasi-one-party state into a fully fledged dictatorship.

  176. Many people are getting tired waiting for an SNP government and are looking at alternatives. They may take the view that they have backed the wrong horse over the years and like Joel Morgan would have fared better with PL, in hindsight. PL would like to grab the younger and more intelligent SNP leaders.

There are some who think if this and that had been done, SNP would have won in 2005 or would win in 2011. It is all conjectures of course. The damage to the opposition cause was done by DP and Mancham in 1993. Recovery has been slow and it is understandable that some are restless.

I do not see myself getting anything from an SNP government, apart living in a more open, transparent and generally democratic country. That's good enough for me this time around. As Mancham used to say before he went gaga -- the Switzerland of the Indian Ocean. I am not reading the manifesto to see whether the economic policies will benefit me -- there are always winners and losers in these things.

The economy is in the hands of the IMF, thanks to PL. We will probably see PL implement more of SNP's liberal economic policies grudgingly if they win, without democracy and openness.

Like Volcere says, if you want things to stay as they are in this country for the next 5 years, vote for PL. If you want things to change you have to vote SNP. It will be for 5 years only. A vote for PL means they might well be there in 2020.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Whart Volcere said is completely right asnd would have hoped that RAM has holds the same position may be that would have make him opt for unity in the oppostion rather than going it alone.

Pp would steal ideas of others ,its has done in the past there is not reason not to continue.Pp is now stting up a programme On coetivy for prisoners which is originated from MSR ,but the probelem in all that is that PP is going to use coetivy as a GOULAGE -And this was confirmed by Gleeny who sdaid he support the idea becuase their is a lack of workers on these islands-it will be forced labor another human right abuse about to be perpetuated by PP.

It is not the our votes that will decide if Pp stays in office or not.But the illegal action of Gappy .We must therefore get rid of Pp,Gappy,RAM, Khalifa, and all the other collaborators now.

  178. The news is that Parti Lepep has told Misel he needs to win convincingly to stay for five years. Otherwise he has to leave after two years to make way for Danny Faure.

    ReplyDelete
  179. By whatever margin he wins and regardless the denials, James Michel WILL be handing over to Danny Faure by 2014. Don't let yourself be fooled that out there there is a "party" that is breathing down Michel's neck. Parti lepep is him and him alone and as such he decides what to do. At this stage it's clear that if he manages to get through this time, he would never win a next election. The "baton" has to be passed on as early as possible to enable Danny to prepare himself. All things considered, Danny would be a better president than either James or Ramkalawan could ever be.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Sounds like personality cult. Look at the policies, not the personalities. Many of the economic governance policies Michel has implemented, a condition for IMF and Paris Club support, had long been advocated by SNP.

So Michel is lying again when he says he will serve 5 years if elected. How many more lies are we going to take from him ?

  182. It is undinialable and a fact that Pp has adopted policies of both SNP and MSR too.The problem is since it is not his own ideas Pp does not know how to make these ideas work in practice that explain why a coup detat in 1977 back then they also did not have a plan to offer the people of Seychelles so they forced their way to the top by machine guns . Pp does not know how to operate a government it motto: is give it a try than we will see the consequences ,it is like saying if you do not know how to swimm well jump in the water than we will see if you float.

Michel terms in office has been the most distructive for our conutry on all level be it economicaly, socially, politcally,he just do not have what it takes.Allowing Michel to manipulate our elction in order to keep himself on power and fulfil his greed will be suicide for our nation,we have two choices whether accept the tyraany of a minority over the majority or reverse thing if not Michel will force us to committing mass suicide.

David Pierre,Alvin Grandcourt,MRS Foozo,Derreck Savy, Allen Camille,Davidson Barra and loads more are bascially good persons. In a moment of great weakness when they lost
hope in SNP leadership, for being sell outs, they too have become sell outs!

Do not call them names. They have made a grave error. In this moment of great
darkness this person lives through, we ask that all Christians pray for them and
pray for the SNP leadership, to rid Seychelles of this culture of Sell outs!

One string in common in the reasons they have all sold out is money, look for
it, they will all look for it aswell.

In the end, the PL will dump them when finished with them But by then, the SNP
    will be finished aswell

  185. Davidson Barra is clearly a prostitute, having moved from SNP to Boulle's camp and now to Party Lepep. Money talks and bullshit walks as the old saying goes.

Radio Bamboo says that David Pierre has also walked out on SNP and moving to the Lepep camp. How sad is this for SNP, Pierre himself and his family of supporters. He has certainly lost my respect, ditto for Davidson Barra. They remind me of Percy Ahman who went from one party to the other and now only Ramadoss can afford the liability at Rising Sun (or rather Dead Planet).

There are more prostitutes in the making and the State House pimps are working overtime to spread the wealth around and secure some high profile signings to jump ship and join the revolution. Sadly, many need the money and have lost all their dignity, while others have no choice as they look for a promotion, a cheap house loan, or simply some money to pay off debts and buy food for their children. But choosing to be a prostitute is still a choice, and a person can simply refuse and move on. Selling one's soul is worse than selling one's body.

Large posters do not win elections, but people with brains and money do. In the case of Party Lepep, they have no heart and it is all about using money and the media to do their dirty work. Don't even ask where the funds are coming from. As for SNP, this is Wavel's last stance and the buzzards and scavengers are starting to circle to pick at the dead bodies that will soon be scattered across the green fertile fields at Arpent Vert. May their souls rest in peace in the cemetery of political losers.

The only winners in this election will be Boulle and Volcere, as they have shown heart and determination and an element of honesty at the current situation in Seychelles. The Seychellois populace are the losers, including the ones who vote for Party Lepep. Just wait for the milk and honey to stop flowing after the elections. And to think of 5 more years of James Michel on SBC-TV every night. Makes me want to vomit.

  188. Michel and Lepep must be doing something "good" to be able to attract these former SNPs, be it money or otherwise. Can it be so that all these people are being paid to leave SNP and speak in Lepep's PPB? What about the other side of the coin? How hasn't SNP managed to keep them? Having said that, there are dozens of former Lepep who have crossed over to SNP. They are not being paraded on tv as trophys. It is these people, ordinary people, who will bring about change. Or so I hope!

  189. I think more and more it is becoming obvious that change with not come from a divided opposition but by the people' power. Those politicans have no moral capacity to diciplinethemselves and just cannot resist the temptation to do wrong when it presents itself. As you can see by all those deffections that morally some of thme are so weakmnetally that you can buy their souls for a few pieces of silver. Our country needs leaders with integrity, compassion, and patriotism not apprentice criminals.

There are many countries in the world such as South Africa,Malawi,Brasil ,Germany to name a few where law have been past to avoid or reduce such practices becuase according to them it undermine democractic practices.
