EYEWITNESS NEWS

Faure Says Gross Up Not Reduce Constitutional Post Salaries

Vice President Danny Faure last week went before the National Assembly and presented an SI Bill calling for more than 18% “Gross Up” of all constitutional emoluments salaries.
The gross up increase in all Executive, Ministerial, MNA salaries is being made to pay for the taxes of these salaries under the tax reform wherein all salary earners will now pay taxes on income earned.
This additional Gross up, “top off” Mr. Faure pushed through the National Assembly with fingers pointing to heaven now makes the total Constitutional post salaries increase by more than Fifty –Six (56%) in just Two (2) years.
The politicians are stealing from the Public through legislative theft, by passing the 38% salary increase, 70% retirement package and now a “Gross up” “Top Off” of all salaries for Presidents, Ministers, MNA’s.
Timing Dead Wrong
This is not the time to be grossing up and topping off constitutional post salaries, to make the Government of Seychelles pay for politicians’ salaries. The country is bankrupt officially. Our debts have been passed on to our children totalling $500 Million. Most of it is at a 10% per annum interest rate.
This was an opportune time to cut the salaries of constitutional posts by a reasonable 20%. The SPPF and SNP could have done more or less that by simply not Grossing Up or topping off salaries, and ask the politicians to pay their 18% plus tax themselves. This would have balanced the evil and fraud upon the People of Seychelles committed by both political parties when they passed the Constitutional Emoluments Act of 2008.
Even The Queen Is Cutting Back
In the UK the Queen of England is carrying her own speech to the UN these days, and has sold her old helicopter to help meet budget demands. She has cut her annual budget as well.
In France, ministers are undergoing salary cuts.
All over the World, salary cuts for politicians are being made by many countries to cope with the prolonged economic downturn. 2011 has been projected to be even worse than 2010 according to recent IMF Press Release and all governments have been asked to exercise fiscal restraint, meaning stop the spending frenzy.
Only in Seychelles are we raising salaries by a whopping 56% total.
Mad cows? No mad politicians, but they eat as much as cows per pound.
The People Must Take Control
People of Seychelles, we must retake control of our country’s future. There is no alternative but to throw the SPPF/PP out in the next election.
SNP has to go with them as well, for they have let the people of Seychelles down as they filled their pockets and expressed no remorse, no regret, for what they have done in conspiracy with the SPPF/PP.
If anything, both SPPF/PP and SNP have defended their actions with a vengeance.
I will not be surprised if they defend having elevators in their house either......so what, it goes up and it goes down, they will say!

Sesel Pou Seselwa!
May God Bless All Freedom Loving Seychellois!

  1. These guys just can't stop their bad habits. Some of them are already holding different Ministerial posts, thus accumulation of function,in order to rob our people and it seems it is not enough. As the people are striving to make ends meet and paying for PP failures, those crooks continue with the theft.Instaed of asking for more tax payers' money they should be giving us an explanation of the whereabouts of our missing billion.

  2. The situation in Seychelles is clear: we are being gang raped by the Govt/SPPF/PL and the SNP-Opposition. They feed on us like a pack of sharks, feeding as if there is no tomorrow. After they have finished their orgy only God knows what will remain of our mother - land!

  3. MSR will defeat SPPF/PP and reduce the salaries by 25% and cancel the pensions out right.

Politicians must never be pensioned, in a democtratic state that has gone bankrupted by the same people.

  5. Well of course they want to increase all salaries since it now will be the employees who will be paying taxes directly from their pay-checks.

Naturally it won't make any difference in their net salary, but by God will it be nice to say that one has has just recieved an 18% increase without giving a thought that in reality the effective increase is close to zero if at all that much with regards to annual inflation and price hikes.

The PL is now doing the fine art of "don dimyel" just like they did prior to the last election. Apre plenyen ler mous pou vin bez zot devan deryere et par kote.

  6. I really think that they deserve it. They have fooled the 'people' for so long and now it is pay time!! So, 'show me the money!'

  7. Sometimes i wonder in what dreamland our "leaders" live in. They got no morals, no principles, no clue about running a govt and no problem screwing us over time and time again.

No matter what you PP/SPPF say, please look beyond your noses and our islands. We are in a bad situation. The world is progressing and we are lagging behind.

I find it really sad that the elected officials and politically appointed ones, use their influence and cereal box education to fool and manipulate our population.

Say what you want and do what you want, time will catch up on you all.

When the per fondater passes, all you leaches will be eating each other up.

  9. I do not think it is only the problem of the SPPF/PL. If we look at the historic of our Seychelles politics it is easy that we are shafted by ALL politicians:

    1. Mancham and his DP clique came back to Seychelles (in a sea of blue at the airport, i was there and that was the only time i ever went to any DP/Mancham meeting). The very next day, he went to State House made a deal with the Devil, shafted us for 10 years. Last week someone who was quite important in Mancham inner circle told me that Mancham once told them that 'manrmay priye nou pa ganny eleksyon zot konnen ki grenn nou pour anmase ek Albert', Christopher Gill may have been there?!

    2. So, the Opposition Suppoorters replaced Mancham with Ramkalawan. He performed well for a few years, so now what do we see? After starting politics driving the Anglican beat up old car, Ramkalawan now has at his disposal a fleet of cars (Honda, Peugeots, SUV) you name it, he has now become an expert in construction: from chalets to Chateaus you name it the guy can do it. Corruption (SIVA money is one instance) is the norm within the SNP ranks. The deal with the devil was finally sealed in 2007, when SPPF and SNP went on a feeding binge (still being done only last week) on Tax Payers money and voted themselves increases in salary....Ramkalawan surronds himself with people who share same inclination from the Lawyer known as RAZWAR in legal circle because he steals from the rich, poor, church you name it the guy will steal from.

    3. The SPPF/PL are a perfect example of what should never be done: from the Mercenary ransom money, to drugs passed off as tea, to busting the trade sanction of Apartheid South Africa, to domestic scams, Intelvision, Sheik.

Are we any different from other countries? I say for a population of 70,000 that seems to be an awful lot of scams going on here.

Can Christopher Gill and MSR do bette? Time will tell. Mere fact that he allows free speech on this site is good.

  10. Reply to Vox-

You caught me while I was on line.

Yes Mancham regularly said what you say he said. It was the expression of a defeatist attitude he did not return to Seychelles with, but adopted the Monday morning after the meeting with Rene , wearing his black shirt.

From that moment on, things were different.

Now SNP has problems, perhaps worse then Mancham. I understand the Leader has shut down chat, and I know he does not respond with names to accusations, on STAR or other forums. He uses fake profiles, which is highly undemocratic.

The problem we have is that these politicians are using tactics and strategy to fill their pockets, that are antiquated.

Many people do not realize this, but I face scrutiny and questions to up to 3000 persons a week on STAR, 931 people at MSR Facebook, 1200 people at Lavwa Seychelles, sometimes less, over 1400 people at Sesel Pou Seselwa, 350 people at Delo Kaka, and over 700 people at Overseas Voters Right To Vote each week.

What I say, I defend. What I cannot defend, I drop, and if someone has a better idea, I listen, then give way to the better idea.

In that process, the best ideas prevail, and this will help us get on the path to a better country.

I do not use people and use their ideas and claim them as mine as many in the opposition set up do with no remorse.

Uniting the opposition is important and critical, but we cannot do that with dead wieght at the top. Any dead wieght must not be given any loyalty. They must be removed, so Seychelles can move on, because they are the obstacles to change, when they become classified as political dead wieght.

SPPF loves to keep them where they are, doing what they do, hibernate, and pop up once in a while and give us a story.

Ironically, it is SPPF that wants Independent Candidates, it is SPPF that wants Ramkalawan to run again, without earnestly uniting the oppostion. It will be SPPF that will urge Mancham to step up to the plate once more, perhaps.

  11. Well so much being said, can we replace dead weight with dead weight? Remember when the 'opposition' started, they were 'light weight'! Be careful for what we wish for!!

  12. Guys,Chris has said in one of his article that MRS favoured a Parliamentary system,.This will provide us the people to have more power of control over the deeds of the government and when we not satify we can replace it at any time.I think it shows already a different in mentality.
