Eden Island adopts La Misère viewpoint
27.05.2010 - Seychelles Nation
Edito: Sad that it takes Eden Island to do the work of Land Transport and Tourism. Both Minister Joel Morgan and STB Chairman Maurice Lalanne who live just up the road should be ashamed! Don't forget that Minister Meriton & V.P Belmont go up and down the same road daily! We really have our priorities wrong! With Eden Island donating bins for Victoria and 'adopting' spots all over Mahe we expect that the next move will be to clean up the Independence House surroundings (especially at night) or perhaps look after the upkeep of State House garden?

The popular La Misère viewpoint – from which much of Mahe’s east coast and the inner islands can be observed – will soon be a busy spot for Eden Island workers.

The Eden Island Company has officially adopted the site for restoration and upgrading work, and will afterwards officially hand it back to the Landscape and Waste Management Agency (LWMA) while continuing to maintain it.

A short ceremony took place at the viewpoint earlier this week, when LWMA chief executive Lena Desaubin handed it over to Eden Island chief executive Craig Heeger. Also present were representatives of both parties.

An Eden Island landscaping team was already on site and, as the first part of the project, had started cleaning up the surprising amount of litter and trimming bushes blocking the view.

The others phases will involve putting in indigenous plants, as well as a table and benches, and replastering the walls.

Notice boards will also be put up with pictures and details of the nearby islands that can be seen.

The centrepiece of the area will be an encased image, which will depict and explain the entire view and give information about everything as far as the eye can see.

The ground area will be resurfaced by the Land Transport Agency, and more bins will be placed around the site.
“We plan on making the site very user-friendly for everybody,” said Mr Heeger.
“It is a plus for us that Eden Island can also be seen from the viewpoint, and it will be labelled just like the other islands.”

Mr Heeger said this is another example of the partnerships the company enjoys forming with the community.

Mrs Desaubin said the viewpoint is of enormous value, especially since it offers such a spectacular view as well as being a much-loved site for visitors and locals alike.
During the time it takes for the work to be completed, the site will remain open to everyone. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June, when it will be handed back, but the Eden Island Company will continue to maintain it on a daily basis.

Mr Heeger said the initial cost of the project is expected to be around R70,000 to R100,000, but it will be “money well spent”.

  3. It's a good example of partnership and cooperation between the people of Seychelles and businesses with foresight. This is a perfect example of "give to get" - a win-win strategy. Only wish there were more of that in Seychelles.

  7. From memory in my response to Lydia Jumeau's "Eye Witness" contribution to the happenings of this most unfortunate incident of Raw Sewage seeping in her water catchment area, that in our Democratic Seychelles, everyone can exercise their democratic rights to express their points of view without fear or favour.

In signing off then, I did say to Lydia that she should be grateful to wake up in the morning to know that one is still alive....and that she should enjoy that grand kontour sek dan prinn de France on her way to work so as to soak in the billion dollar views that most Seychellois/e normally take for granted as most people have no time to call their own. It was sad that Lydia's response was that I had "threathened her".

Well Guys, I've got news for you. I have written to the Minister responsible for a 99 year lease on sap ti boot terrain par enba sa grand kontour sek dan prinn de France for me to turn it into something of great significance and that is to turn it into "The View Point Kiosk where everyone going up or down La Misere road would be able to sit down and have a cup of local tea or a kaffe lokal with a Bar Lafen, en Moutai or even en Nouga Fannen. Of course there would be super chilled drinks for the Kidds too. A third of the profits would go to the Fienne's Institure for starters.

Is the above suggestion too bloody hard to entertain?. After all, was it not FAR who said that we Seychellois are sophisticated?. What are you waiting?....a special invitation. Then again, who was it that said "you can take a Bull to the river, but you cannot force it to drink?." Instead of cheap political bad mouthings, how about some injections of the WOW!-FACTOR for a change?.

  8. Eden Island got so many concessions to build the island etc, it is the least they can do and other luxury resorts should follow. Also Le Pep are constantly hassling these companies to pay for things they cant (being bankrupt) and reminding them what concessions they got so they can hardly refuse. Most of these companies will regret the day they asked can got all these concessions from SPPF and PP.

  9. Very true...I can not believe that we have sunk so low that we can not even maintain a lookout point.

How are they to run a govt then?????

I understand that the arguement of Eden Island wanting to promote their pot of gold, but please PP, give me a break.

Do you think we are that stupid?

  10. in return for all the concessions, eden island has donated dustbins.

now the article says that the eden island viewpoint (is it being renamed?) costs sr 100,000.

can someome please quantify the value of concessions provided to eden island and see if it equates to the sr 100000 + dustbins.

Eden Island is attempting to divert our attention from their true purpose - they are an invasion force of Fabrike who are intended as additional supporters for the Pp Collaborators.

Some say that these 10,000 plus new foreign Fabrike will not vote. So are we to trust our country and our future to this opinion or better yet, this hope. Many may not vote. Some will. Those who vote, when combined with other Fabrike voters, changes the course of our elections - undermines our democracy and they will take our country away from us. In effect these Fabrike who support Pp will decide who runs our country - the Rasin homeland.

So do not let any kind of public relations by Eden Island fool you. They are an invasion force in our country. We should not accept them and give them our country for the price of a few trash cans.

They have stated their intentions when they told Christopher that Eden Island is Johannesburg "boy". That is their intention. To work with the Pp Collaborators, probably throwing them a few bribes, so they can discriminate against us Seselwa Rasin in our homeland and steal our homeland from us.

That is who they and their residents are, invaders - they are not the good citizens they are masquerading as. Do not take them for that.

  12. Seselwa how long are we going to sit back and passively watch PP and its new BOER friends from s.Africa turn our country into a new RHODESIA?
